In this episode I want to talk about some other possible careers that I might have chosen If I weren't an English content creator.
I thought it would be fun to talk about other possibilities, other possible careers that might suit me, meaning they might be appropriate for me, my personality, my interests, my skills, etc.
Sometimes we like to ask people hypothetical questions about what they would do if they weren't an electrician or they weren't an accountant or whatever their job is.
So I asked myself that question and I thought of a few possible careers that I might have.
That's what i'll talk about today.

Okay, let me talk about other possible careers that I might have chosen or that I might choose if I'm not able to continue on as an English content creator.
Let's say
What are the other possible options for me?
Well, one of the obvious possibilities that I thought of is being a high school English teacher.
The reason why I say that this is an obvious one, maybe one of the most obvious ones on this list, is because I actually wanted to be a high school English teacher for a while.
When I was around 18, maybe 19 years old, I had the idea of becoming a high school English teacher.
There are a few reasons why I might choose this career.
Number one, I like English, obviously.
That's what I deal with now in my current career.
So it makes sense that I might choose an occupation like being an English teacher in high school.
I really like literature.
I love reading literature.
It's one of my top hobbies, probably in my top three hobbies.
I'm constantly reading.
I love reading classic literature.
And this is exactly... what we do in our English classes in high school.
We read classic literature.
I know that many people don't like doing this.
Most students don't like this.
But I actually liked this and I love it now.
And I would hope that I would be able to transmit my passion for reading to my students.
I don't know how good I would be at doing that.
I don't know if I would do that effectively, but that would be my goal.
To foster, to cultivate, like to help produce this passion for reading books and reading classic literature.
So I like that.
I also like grammar.
Grammar is actually interesting for me.
My mom was an ESL teacher English as a second language and she loved to give us little grammar quizzes to me and my sister, when we were kids, and I actually thought it was a fun challenge to learn the right grammar structures.
I actually liked this as a kid and I had this great English teacher in seventh grade who I've talked about in multiple episodes.
In that class, we learned a lot of grammar. which most people hated, but I loved it.
It was fun for me.
I secretly loved it, I should say.
I didn't openly tell other people that I loved it, but I did.
And I would hope that I would be able to inspire other students as a grammar teacher the way that that teacher inspired me.
And then one other good reason why I would like to be a high school English teacher is would be the influence that I would have on these young people, these teenagers.
Our teachers in high school have A great influence on us.
I'm sure many of you would agree that some teachers with things that they said to us or things that they taught us.
They left a big impression on us, or maybe they helped us choose our future career, or maybe they helped us develop an interest in a certain subject.
But not only that, but also just in life.
They served as examples for us, role models.
So I know that I would have a lot of influence on people there.
So that might be an interesting thing for me, because I do want to help people, help young people, steer them in the right direction.
Right.
And have a good influence on their lives.
So that's another reason why it might be a good career choice for me.
The next career on this list is tour guide.
I think that this is a fun job and would be fun for many people actually, because you get to work in the travel and tourism industry, which is a pretty interesting industry industry.
I'm sure many of you like going on tours.
Tours are fun and the reason why I put this one on here is because I remember back when I lived in San Diego, which I consider my hometown.
I really loved going to Old Town, San Diego.
This is one of my favorites, favorite places on earth, really not because it's the most amazing place, but because it has a lot of sentimental value to me.
It really reminds me of certain periods of my life when i would go there often And I remember that I always thought it would be a cool job to be some type of tour guide in Old Town, because I loved it so much.
And I thought it would be a great place to spend my days.
I thought that that might be an interesting career to become a tour guide there and show people around, both foreigners and just people that come who are local.
I think that that kind of stuck in my mind the idea of being a tour guide there.
So that's the reason why I even thought of this possible career.
But not only for that reason, I'm also good at working with foreigners.
Obviously, that's what I do for many years.
I taught one-on-one classes as my main job, and I have spoken to people from over 80 different countries, I believe, so I have a ton of experience.
Working with foreigners, I'm patient with them.
I'm good at understanding them when their English pronunciation isn't the best.
So I think I have some of the necessary skills to do this type of work.
And I think I have a friendly personality when I try, when I put the effort in, so that would be good.
But one other type of tour guide that I think would be even more suitable for me nowadays would be a food tour guy.
I sometimes daydream about doing this, especially when I lived in Guadalajara, Mexico.
I dreamed about being a food tour guide because I knew the food scene, like the restaurants and the food culture of Guadalajara, very well.
I thought that it would be a cool thing to give guided tours where you go to different restaurants and have people eat food, a certain dish there
I remember thinking of the different dishes at the different restaurants that I would include if I gave food tours in Guadalajara.
So I still sometimes daydream about that.
I think I would be good at that job because I think I have good taste in food, even though I'm not a cook.
I have no skills when it comes to the kitchen.
I think I do have a good palate and I know what tastes good, I think.
So I think that would be a great career if I had to choose another one.
Another career that I thought of would be a park ranger or some type of worker in the parks and recreation department of the government.
This is the only government job I put on here.
I don't think I would choose to work for the government, as like my own choice willingly, but this one job seems kind of cool.
Being a park ranger, it's not like a typical government job.
Really, it has almost no resemblance to the other types of government jobs.
I'm not really ordering people around and engaging in all of the bureaucracy and all the other things.
Really, I'm just concerned about the nature aspect of this job.
I think...
I would thrive as a park ranger or with some type of career related to this, because it would be good for my mind and my body to.
I love being in nature.
I love being outside hiking, going to lakes, doing things in nature places.
So I don't really know all of the duties that I would have as a park ranger but regardless of the duties, I know that I would enjoy the place where I would be working.
It's very different from working in an office, working at a computer all day.
Being able to be in nature outside would be awesome.
I'm sure park rangers also have to do a lot of things at a desk and with a computer, but I'm sure they also get to spend a lot of time on their feet outdoors in a nature environment.
So for that reason alone, I added this one to the list, but quite honestly, I don't know all of the different details of responsibilities and things that they do.
Another thing that I added to this list with a question mark, because I don't really know if I would thrive in this career or not, but It sounds interesting and I might have the skills and personality to do this, which is being a journalist.
And specifically, I thought of this because I do interview people on my US Conversations podcast.
Even though it's a friendly conversation, I am kind of like the interviewer, right?
I ask a lot of questions.
I guide the conversation.
I try to keep the conversation interesting.
I ask follow-up questions.
I have to manage the conversation and know what to say next and what types of questions to ask.
I read the other person to try to see what they're interested in, what they wanna talk about.
I have to do all of this when I record those podcast episodes.
And people have told me, that I do a pretty decent job.
And I hope I do.
I feel like I do.
And so, because I have experience interviewing people, that might be something that would help me as a.
I know that's just one small possible element of the job, but I like that element to be honest.
And also a reason why I might make a good journalist is because I like searching for truth.
I'm someone who likes to get to the bottom of things, as we say, like to find the actual truth at the heart of some matter.
A lot of people are content with just believing whatever someone tells them.
I'm not that person.
I'm someone who likes to investigate, develop my own opinion based on my own research.
And yes, as a journalist, I wouldn't want to give my own opinions all throughout my work.
I think that this could be annoying and deceptive sometimes, depending on the type of journalism you do.
Of course, some people, their journalistic career relies more on their opinions, obviously.
But what I'm saying is that I like searching for truth.
I like investigating.
So I think that perhaps this would be a good career for me.
And also I'm good at writing.
That's one of my few skills.
So journalists have to write, I believe.
And so that would aid me as well.
One other thing I put on this list of possible careers is to be some type of children's author, perhaps.
The reason why I say that is because I love rhyming.
I love writing poems and songs.
It's something I actually do and have done a lot recently.
I've written Many hymns.
I've talked about this in I don't know if it was a normal episode or a bonus episode, I'm not sure but I have done him writing where I write Christian traditional music, Not the music part, but the lyrics.
So I love rhyming.
I love poetry in general, writing poems.
So because of that, I think that I might be good at rhyming for children like in children's books.
My son has tons of books my daughter does as well.
And my son particularly really loves the rhymes in the different books that he has, like Dr Seuss books.
I'm sure many of you know Dr. Seuss.
And I also enjoy the rhymes in these books, when the author rhymes well sometimes in the different books that we buy for our kids.
The rhymes aren't that good, to be honest, and the structure of the sentences isn't very good, and I criticize the writing a little bit and I think that I could do something better.
So that tells me that I might be good doing this type of work.
I don't know if people would enjoy my specific style of writing, but I am pretty good at making things sound good and rhyming well.
Again, that's one of my few skills, writing and specifically rhyming and writing poetry.
I don't have many skills, but this is one of them.
So I think that that might be a good career for me.
Or perhaps I would help write songs for children's shows.
Maybe not books, maybe certain programs, TV shows.
They have a lot of songs in them. when it comes to children's TV programs.
And I think that I might be good at writing those types of songs, or maybe just writing songs for other things commercials ads, things that aren't children's books or shows, maybe just other things as well, songwriting or writing some type of rhyme, this type of thing.
I don't know.
It's just an idea that I had.
So that was the other one that I put on this list.
To be honest, it was kind of hard to think of all these careers because I'm not a career-oriented person compared to other people.
I want to do something that I like and that will pay the bills, really.
And that's pretty much it.
I don't really have all of these passions for different career paths.
So it took me a while to think of these different possibilities.
But those are possibilities of other careers that I might do if I weren't an English content creator.
