I am so ripped.
Can you see my muscles?
Just kidding, guys, because today I'm going to teach you vocabulary at the gym.
Yes, English at the gym.
Let's go.
Let me stretch.
To stretch means to lengthen your muscles to warm up before lifting weights.
There are several types of weights.
For example, kettle bells.
Kettle bells because they look like a kettle.
Don't they remind you of a kettle?
It's so easy to remember when you think about a kettle.
Kettle bells.
These are dumbbells.
Dumbbells.
These are heavy.
Right in front of me, we can see a barbell.
This is a barbell.
The word bar in English has multiple meanings but in the gym context bars usually refers to the word bar, usually refer to this thing here, this bar, and we can actually add some weight to the barbells.
I can add weight plates to the barbell.
Let me add weight plates.
This is a treadmill, treadmill.
We can walk on the treadmill.
I'm currently walking on the treadmill.
We can run on the treadmill.
I'm currently running.
The current research shows that warming up should be around five to 10 minutes of brisk walking, followed by dynamic stretches.
Dynamic stretches are stretches that involve full range of motion.
Some examples of dynamic stretches are torso twists, high knees walk, lunges and arm circles.
Now that i've done my cardio, i'll move to the other machines.
This is a stationary bike stationary bike and this one is an elliptical.
Yeah, it's kind of an elliptical and it's also a cardio exercise.
It's cardio.
I particularly prefer cardio on the treadmill when I work out because I prefer the treadmill.
Let's move on to this machine.
This is the leg press.
Leg press.
We use the leg press to exercise our lower body.
Yes, by lower body I mean our thighs, calves, feet, and buttocks.
This is the Smith machine.
Yeah, Smith machine.
And it's used to squat.
I'm not gonna demonstrate how exactly you can squat with the Smith machine because of my spine.
Actually I had a surgery when I was 10 years old and basically I have 16 screws and two rods on my spine.
The spine is the line of bones we have in the center of our bodies.
Yes, it's scary, but I'm...
Totally fine now.
I don't feel anything.
I can exercise normally, but the only restriction I have is that I can't do squats on the Smith machine.
This is the pull-down machine.
We use the pull-down machine to exercise our back muscles.
Before using a machine, you or your personal trainer or your gym instructor needs to adjust the weights and then you can start working out.
This is the leg extension machine.
Yeah.
We use it to exercise our quads, our quadriceps muscles.
During these workouts we usually do reps, which is short for repetitions.
One, two, three.
And each collection of repetition is called a set.
So if your instructor says do three sets of 10 repetition crunches, you have to do 10 repetitions three times.
I'm doing crunches right now.
Crunches are essential if you want to get six-pack abs.
Six-pack abs?
What is that?
Six-pack abs is when your muscles, your stomach muscles, are well developed, as you see in this picture.
This is the overhead press, and this machine is used to activate your triceps and your biceps.
What motivates you to go to the gym?
What motivates you to work out?
Some people want to go to the gym to lose their love handles.
Love handles are accumulated body fat right above your hips like this way, as you see in the picture.
This is more common in men.
This is spare tire.
Thanks for watching.
