Hi, this is Sophia Cartman, host of the Dream Big Podcast show, a place to learn, laugh, and grow.
Have you ever been excited to hang out with your friends, only to find out they made a group without you?
Maybe they planned a party, started a club, or decided to sit together at lunch.
And you weren't invited.
That hurts, right?
But what if I told you that instead of feeling left out, you could feel totally free?
Today we are going to be talking about a powerful idea from Mel Robbins called the Let Them Theory how to stop wasting your energy on people that don't include you and instead become a leader of your own adventure.
This is episode 447 of the Dream Big podcast and it's time to dream big.
Big Dreamers.
Today, we're talking about something super important.
What to do if people leave you out.
Have you ever had a group of friends decide to do something without you?
Maybe they started a club, had a sleepover or even just whisper about something secret and you're not a part of it.
It's frustrating, right?
It feels unfair.
It feels mean.
It feels personal.
But guess what?
It's not about you.
There's an amazing line set trick from Mel Robbins called the let them rule.
And today I'm going to be showing you how it can completely change the way you feel when people leave you out.
Let's start by exploring what the let them mindset is all about.
Okay, so imagine this.
You walk into your school and then you see a group of your friends, close friends, whispering.
And you ask, oh, what's going on?
And one of your friends says, oh, it's nothing.
You wouldn't get it.
Then later you find out they planned something fun without you.
Whatever it is, you weren't invited.
At first you may feel like why did they not invite me?
Did i do something wrong?
That's so mean i should be a part of this.
How can i make them include me?
But here's the game-changing thought.
Let them.
That's right.
Let them.
If they don't want to invite you, let them.
If they want to form their own group, let them.
If they make their own plans, let them.
Instead of wasting your energy, feeling bad or trying to change their minds.
You take your power back and you let them.
Say it out loud with me.
I let them feel it.
Doesn't it feel good?
Now this does not mean you sit at your home and feel sad about being left out.
No way.
Instead of waiting for an invitation and people who don't want to invite you, plan your own event.
Invite people you want to spend time with.
Start a new club based on something you love.
Find new friends. who actually value and include you.
People are naturally drawn to leaders.
And guess what?
If you start doing cool things, those same people who left you out earlier might actually want to be a part of your group.
And instead of leaving them out of your group, let them in.
Treat them with kindness and they'll give you kindness back.
Think about it.
Would you rather spend your time chasing after people who don't include you, or creating your own fun and being the one others want to follow?
However, let's be clear.
Let them does not mean letting people be mean to you.
If somebody's purposely excluding you, teasing you, or making you feel bad, that is not okay.
Let them means you stop wasting your energy on things you cannot control.
But it does not mean you let people cross your boundaries or disrespect you.
If someone is rude to you, you can...
Stand up for yourself and set boundaries, making a line they cannot cross.
Find friends who treat you with kindness and respect.
This is important.
Walk alone.
Away from people who do not appreciate you.
If you feel like your friend's being mean, don't take it.
Tell them, please stop.
They do it again?
Walk away.
You let them do whatever they need to do, but you also let yourself make choices that keep you happy and confident.
So how to use the let them rule every day, you may ask.
Here's what you can do starting today.
Try this.
Next time someone leaves you out, let them.
You focus on your own happiness.
Doubts or abilities?
Let them.
You go prove to yourself what you can do.
Judges your dreams?
Let them.
Your dreams are yours, not theirs.
When you stop chasing people and start being true to yourself, you'll attract the right friends, the ones who appreciate and respect you.
And here's a challenge for you, big dreamers.
The next time someone leaves you out, don't waste your energy trying to change them.
Instead, you say, I let them and focus on you.
What can you do today that makes you happy?
Who are the friends who actually support you?
And go be the leader of your own fun.
And always remember, if they don't invite you, they disinclude you, let them.
Thank you for listening, big dreamers.
