Welcome to the Allie on the Run show and hello from Boston.
I am recording this intro from my hotel room on Sunday afternoon before I head to a broadcast meeting and then get ready for Marathon Monday.
I don't know when you'll hear this.
This weekend has already been so fun and so busy and it is absolutely flying by.
I don't want it to end. but it kicked off in the best way.
On Friday evening I had the pleasure of hosting a live show at WBUR City Space with special guest Claire Holt.
Claire has been on the Alley on the Run show before, and she is just the absolute best.
That was the key takeaway from this episode.
Everyone was leaving saying, oh my God, I'm obsessed with Claire.
Yes, She's an actress.
You've seen her on The Vampire Diaries, Mean Girls 2 H2O, Just Add Water, which is my daughter's favorite, and Pretty Little Liars.
She is a mom of three who lives in Miami, and she is a runner.
She is a marathoner, and she is just so much fun.
This live show, as they tend to do, especially after 7 p.m., as we learned...
Oh, it goes in so many directions.
I will tell you that.
Biggest thanks to everyone who showed up and attended.
This was a sold out show and the vibes in that room were on point.
Biggest thank you to Steven and the team at WBUR City Space for hosting us.
What an absolutely amazing venue and incredible team to work with.
And of course, biggest thanks to shocks for sponsoring this event.
We've always wanted to collaborate on a live event and this was the perfect time.
Claire is a longtime shocks user.
She refuses to wear any other headphones and you know that that goes for me as well.
Shocks is and always has been an incredible partner.
I love their products.
The Open Run Pro 2 headphones are my favorite and the Boston Marathon Edition is so gorgeous with gold accents throughout.
Just simply stunning.
When you go to Shox.com and use code Allie, you will get $10 off your next Shox headphone purchase.
That's shocks.com using code Allie for $10 off.
Now please enjoy this conversation with Claire Holt, recorded live at WBUR City Space during Boston Marathon weekend.
Good evening.
How is everyone?
Come on, it's Friday.
It's Marathon Weekend.
How is everyone?
That's right.
Welcome all.
My name is Stephen Davey.
I'm the senior producer here at WBUR City Space.
As you heard, some housekeeping.
Silence your phones.
This is a live podcast taping after all.
And be sure to tag us on Instagram and TikTok.
We're at WBUR City Space.
How many here were here for last night's running game show with Laura Greene?
Wasn't that fun?
Oh, my God.
I am still trying to figure out how they got the steeplechase during charades.
How do you do steeplechase during charades?
I don't know.
Anyway, that was super fun.
And now the important question.
How many runners in the house?
Okay, no.
Who is a runner and doesn't shout when they say a runner?
Who is a runner in the house?
Okay.
All right.
I just wanted to check if the pulse here.
Okay.
Happy marathon weekend, everyone.
Is your Instagram or TikTok completely covered with running content right now?
Okay.
Wow.
Right.
Okay.
I don't want to jinx anything, but we're looking like we have some good weather for runners on Monday.
Anyone running the marathon?
All right.
Here we go.
While I have you, mark your calendars.
Track phenom Mary Kane.
Yes, that Mary Kane is going to be here Thursday, April 30th.
She has a new memoir out.
The lawsuits are over and we're going to find out all the teeth.
So be back for that.
Mark your calendars.
She is fascinating.
And who's ready to kick off a little marathon weekend?
Allie Feller is in the house, and you all are dedicated.
This live podcast sold out super fast.
Even before she booked actress Claire Holt, Mean Girls, Pretty Little Liars, Vampire Diaries and now Runner.
We're going to find out all about it.
So let's get the party started.
Make some noise.
The Allie on the Run Show.
Thanks for coming.
How we doing?
Steven snuck out real quick.
I don't believe I was listening.
I don't believe he mentioned the fact that he is running the 5k and the marathon.
Did he mention that?
All day he's been on his feet and we're like, we got to get you off your feet.
So, Stephen, you're amazing.
The entire WBUR team.
Thank you so much for having us.
My name is Allie.
I am the host of the Allie on the Run show podcast.
I always feel like I should introduce myself.
It's great to be here.
Thank you for having us.
And right off the bat, biggest, biggest, biggest thanks to Shox and the entire team there.
Seven and Jamie, they are amazing to work with.
If you know me, you know I have been wearing these headphones probably since around the time they were invented.
We go way way, way back and they are so endlessly supportive me of the work that I do and, of course, of the running community at large.
So thank you so much to the entire team for having us, for supporting this episode, for being here.
I guess I can sit down we also.
I did want to acknowledge we have a couple special faces in the audience, which is always fun.
So to the Feller family in the second row right here Yeah,
Not to like go down a sappy road right off the bat, but like it's maybe not been like the best year for the fellers.
But so to Lori and David, I am so excited to have them here for an Allie on the Run live show and my sister-in-law, Michaela.
And my niece and nephew, Tyler and Abby, who I know some of you have seen since they were little little.
So thanks for coming.
And cousin Jackie's here, too.
She's going to get a lot of love this weekend.
So thank you guys for coming.
Now we're going to have some fun.
So my goal with these shows, on these major marathon weekends is I just want you to leave feeling better than you came.
So I do try to have us like this is a reminder.
I know I say it all the time and it's probably annoying, but like drop your shoulders, unclench your jaw, because I can like feel that from the stage and just know it's going to be a great weekend.
Who is running the 5K tomorrow?
Okay.
Who's running the 5K tomorrow?
Own it!
You know what's awesome?
Running 3.1 miles.
And running a marathon.
Who's running the Boston Marathon on Monday?
Amazing.
Is anyone running their first Boston on Monday?
Awesome.
The hills are flatter this year, I heard.
Weather's going to be perfect, so everything is perfectly lined up for you.
Well, I know Steven already gave you a bit of background as to who she is, but I am thrilled to have with us Claire Holt.
You have seen her on TV.
She's been in Vampire Diaries, Mean Girls 2.
She's amazing.
She's fun.
But I think most importantly, like, yes, she's a very famous actress.
Amazing.
But she's one of us and she is a runner and she is a marathoner.
So please give a very, very warm welcome to our guest, Miss Claire Holtz.
Hi.
Hi, everyone.
How are you?
I'm so good.
Guys, I did not know that it was a unicorn.
I thought it was a horse.
We, so backstage, there's a monitor and we've been having fun for the past few hours.
We watched all of you come in and wow, who was at the front of the line?
Oh, that was me.
Yeah, we saw you come in and get that front row seat.
So nice job.
Thank you for being here.
Claire, how are you doing?
I'm so good.
I'm so happy to be here.
How are you feeling?
Welcome to Boston.
So this is your first time being here for Boston marathon weekend.
My first time for the weekend.
Yeah.
And you now know that the, the unicorn, it's a unicorn.
That's not a horse.
It's a unicorn, not a horse.
Love that.
So I'm thinking, I was wondering why everyone had these unicorn things.
I'm like, It's strange, but cute.
I mean, festive.
No questions.
Got it.
What do you think of all of this so far?
I know you've only been in town for a couple hours.
I have severe FOMO.
All I want to do is just run this marathon on Monday without training.
Which we don't advise, but... That's not smart.
Would it be the worst thing?
I mean, I could just like hobble the end.
Your longest long run, you ran 13 miles.
Yeah, 13 a couple weeks ago.
That's enough, right?
Plenty.
So ready.
But you are running the 5K tomorrow.
I am running the 5K.
So earlier this week you posted online, you shared that you were running the 5K and you were like should I have fun and run for high fives or should I send it?
So my first question for you is, was that even a real question?
I think I'm going to send it.
I don't know.
We'll see in the morning.
You know how sometimes you get like, Depends what wave they let me out in.
Can't really send it if there's a traffic jam, can you?
Once you get past the first mile, just then you can send it.
I know, but then you have to extra send it.
Then you have to bank some serious time.
Let's see.
We might be doing it for vibes.
Doing it on vibes.
Well, I say that now.
Whose team send it?
Let's go.
Okay, team vibes.
Oh, that sounds fun too.
I don't know.
Game time decision.
Game time decision.
Well, I love that you are here for this.
You're here for the show.
You're here for the 5K.
But I also love that you're sticking around.
Yes.
I'm so excited.
I've always wanted to cheer for a marathon.
And I did fundraising for Boston Children's Hospital.
So I love Boston Children's Hospital.
And I want to cheer for all the runners and with their little team.
I'm very excited.
You have raised more than $250,000 for Boston Children's.
Thank you.
I love them.
What is your connection to Boston Children's?
Why is it important to you?
So my beautiful little neighbor his name is Romy and he is five years old and he was born with a very severe heart condition.
And he had five open heart surgeries in the first year of his life.
And Boston, Miami, the hospital, they tried and they couldn't fix his heart.
And he came to Boston, they saved his life.
So...
I'm so passionate about this hospital and everything they do.
I've learned so much.
And the second marathon I actually ran was for their mental health division, because they're doing incredible things in children's mental health.
So I love them.
I love them.
So you will be out cheering.
Have you never cheered for a marathon before?
Never because I love attention.
I want to be running and I want people cheering for me.
Don't know how I'm going to handle it.
We'll see.
Other than the 5K tomorrow, are you training for anything right now?
I would like to do a triathlon at some point this year.
Maybe even an Ironman one day.
Don't tell my husband.
But yeah no, I'm just trying to have fun at the moment because my problem is I take everything way too seriously.
So when I have a race on the books, I'm so locked in that I'm not fun to be around.
I think you're fun to be around.
Oh, thanks.
I mean, I know we're not married, but I think that you're fun to be around.
Let's call my husband and ask him.
Call him live.
I would love that.
Tell us how you met your husband.
We were set up on a date by a friend because I was a very sad single gal who had committed to having nine cats and no husband or children.
And my friend was like, oh, God, you're so boring.
You're sad all the time.
Get out.
Go out and hang out with my friend Andrew.
You guys will have a fun night together and you'll never talk again.
So, okay, fine.
And then we got married.
And we have three kids.
A failed one night stand.
A failed one night stand.
I know.
I tried.
I tried.
But he fell in love with me.
What was that first date?
What did you do?
Well, should I ask that?
No, you can.
Okay.
I think we went out for a margarita and it just, you know, went from there.
Nice.
So you're not training for anything right now, but you're waking up on Wednesdays at three 30 in the morning to run.
What's happening?
You know, I joined a run club in Miami and I got dragged to a running club in Miami by my two friends and I thought it was the silliest thing I'd ever done.
Like, why would you wake up at 3.30 to do it?
And then after the first one, I got so addicted.
It's so fun.
Okay, who are the two friends?
Let's start there.
Daniela and Frank.
My friend Daniela just did her first triathlon last weekend.
She did amazing, a 2.39 Olympic triathlon, amazing.
And my other friend Frank is also training for his first half marathon right now.
And they were like, Claire, come on, you're gonna love this.
I'm like, what is there to love?
I show up, there's 60 shirtless men.
And I'm like, oh, got it.
There's a lot to love.
Is this only in Miami or is there like a Kentucky?
The one I go to is in.
You should come down.
She's moving to Miami.
She's there next week.
Bye.
Yeah, no, it's just really fun, you know, to find like-minded people.
Because every time I trained for a marathon before this, I did it by myself.
I never had anyone who wanted to go on these runs with me.
So finding a community really makes a difference, I think.
All right, I think it can be so intimidating to show up to a run club for the first time.
Even the ones that are like, we welcome all paces.
100%.
Everyone's welcome here.
That's why you have to buy the really fancy shoes so they think you're fast.
Most expensive ones you can find.
And then you're good.
And then you're fine.
You fit right in.
You're confident.
Do you remember, other than noticing the 60 shirtless men, what was that first workout like?
Did you feel nervous?
I was so nervous and there were different pace groups and I was certain that I wouldn't be able to hold on.
And then I realized, like you, you get with a group and you run faster and you feel I just I didn't run with music, I always run with music.
I just listened to the sound of footsteps and And it was awesome.
I think we did seven or eight miles on the first track workout.
But it's really addictive, unfortunately, for everyone in my life.
Welcome.
You guys get it.
You found your people.
You get it.
Okay.
So now you go back.
Every week.
Well, the last two I took off.
Okay, that's fine.
You're tapering.
I'm tapering for the 5K that I'm going to send.
Exactly that.
Yeah.
Walk me through the...
The mental process from when that alarm goes off until you get back home after the track workout.
Walk us through.
There's highs and lows in there.
There's a lot of swear words between the hour of like 3.30 and 4.30 a.m.
Just cursing.
And then I get there and we do like a warm-up. mile and a half, feels kind of good.
And then we start the track workout and probably the first mile or two of the track workout I'm like okay, this is fine.
Miles three to five, I'm like, this is the worst thing I've ever done.
Why do I do this to myself?
Why couldn't I have chosen knitting as a hobby?
And then miles six to seven, I'm like, I'm an Olympian.
That's why I chose it, because I'm a phenomenal athlete.
That's about how it goes every week.
And then you're just on top of the world the rest of the day.
Exactly.
Flying high, better than everyone, so smug.
Walking around making sure everyone knows what time I woke up.
Can't not talk about it.
It's the same as a marathon.
You have to talk about it.
If we couldn't talk about it, there's no way we'd run them.
Anyone here, is anyone actually like really humble and they don't tell people?
No, we all talk about it.
No hands raised.
No way!
Wearing your medal for a week after.
Oh, yeah.
What is your relationship with the medal?
Are you a medal wearer?
I have a complicated relationship because I really want to be a medal wearer, but I also feel embarrassed wearing my medal.
So I take it on and off a lot, all day.
LAUGHTER
When I find my people, I put it back on.
But then if I'm just sitting in a restaurant with the only I'm the only one in a medal I like slowly shamefully, like.
And the race was like not recent at all.
It's from 2022.
Just in case it comes up.
Does anyone here know?
It is time for the trivia portion of this conversation.
So one thing, has anyone here been to an Allie on the Run live show before?
Oh, okay.
I love it.
We love to give away free stuff.
And thanks to our partners at Shock's, Today we are giving away three pair of the Boston Marathon Edition Open Run Pro 2 headphones.
They're so good.
I saw them.
My favorite.
Also, let's talk about- I'm obsessed with them.
You're a Sharks wearer.
I'm a Sharks wearer.
I've bought many pairs of them.
I love them.
Well, we're going to give three pair away.
Does anyone in this room know-
So we did close it off to friends and family.
So you guys are out.
I'll answer the trivia question.
Honestly, up to you.
Up to you.
Just kidding.
I'm kidding.
Does anyone, and what you're going to do, this is like a really formal process.
If you think you know the answer, you're going to raise your hand and Claire will call on someone because I don't like to have that job.
Okay.
Oh, cool.
I'll try and do it fast.
Okay.
Claire has run several marathons now.
Which marathon was her first?
Oh, you were first.
Yes, baby.
New York City.
Get this gal a pair of headphones.
Jamie is headed your way.
And check out the box on these things.
It's like the most gorgeous thing you'll ever see.
So we will have more trivia coming your way throughout this conversation.
Where's my little cup?
I like this.
Claire, would you rather...
As we were filling out our cups, would you rather drink something that had a piece of hair in it?
Yeah, obviously.
We talked about this.
No problem.
Or a nail.
I draw the line at a nail, but a hair is fine.
I've probably already drunk four of them today.
It's hair.
Just came up backstage, so I was just curious.
There was a hair in my cup, and I was like, oh, it's fine.
It's just a hair.
Everyone looked at me, and I was so weird.
Is that just an Australian thing?
I don't know.
Well, I think we were more like, no, no, no, no.
Whatever you want, we can do better.
And who do you think got her a new cup?
Connor Nichol.
Thanks, Connor.
Look at the applause you got.
Oh, he's back there.
So happy for you.
Fresh cup.
Yeah.
We love you.
He thinks I'm gross that I drink.
No, no, no.
Oh, this is judgment free zone.
I mean, mostly.
Okay, great.
But yeah, that's not even gonna, that's not even on the radar.
All right.
Your first marathon was New York.
And I remember you came on the alley on the run show after we did the race recap, which was so fun.
And you talked about how you had a time goal for your first marathon.
Yeah.
Didn't hit it.
OK, that's not where I was going with it.
I am still here.
I am curious.
Yeah.
Do you wish you hadn't had a time goal?
Would that have like I know we're all like no regrets.
You know what?
I never would have run more marathons.
If I hit that time goal, I would have been one and done.
And I have had so many amazing experiences because I did not get that time goal.
Truly.
You can cry now.
So lesson for Monday.
I am a big proponent of not having a time goal at all for your first one.
It's so smart.
Do you think if you didn't have a time goal at your first one, do you think you'd still be running marathons?
Probably not.
Okay.
So I'm glad you're still here.
Yeah.
I think...
It's such an amazing experience and you have no idea, before you've done one, what it's going to be like.
And so adding that extra pressure of I have to run it fast or it just takes some of the joy out of it.
And the one that I ran where I really didn't care what time I did, I had the best day of my life.
It was so fun.
I looked around.
I read all the signs.
I high-fived everyone.
I just was so in it and I noticed the beautiful parts of humanity.
I noticed the people pushing wheelchairs.
I noticed these amazing runners with prosthetic legs.
I noticed Achilles with the guides and the blind runners.
It was so beautiful.
And every time I've locked into a time goal, I can't see anything but my damn watch.
You know, like I'm so focused on it.
So I think when you just run in saying this like tomorrow, I'm going to be like looking at my watch every five seconds making sure I'm hitting my pace.
When you just run, you see so much more and you really soak it in.
It's so beautiful.
What do you remember most?
Is there a snapshot moment from your first marathon?
Mile 23 and a half going up the hill to Central Park thinking this is the dumbest thing I've ever done in my life.
That's what I remember.
And then I remember crossing the finish line going, I will never do that again.
And here I am.
Okay, I do.
Let me see.
I'm just checking my notes here.
I did pull a couple direct quotes.
Oh, God.
When you came on the Alley on the Run show after that race did the full recap at the 50-minute 21-second mark.
In the conversation you said, and I directly quote
And this was after the 2022 race.
I will not be running New York again.
Yeah, I'm a liar.
Two more times.
Two more times.
You later in that conversation said, and not Boston, no way.
Oh.
But you're here.
I know you're not running on Monday.
Do you know that?
I don't know.
I might.
For three hours backstage, I have been working my butt off trying to get this girl to run on Monday.
And I know you're like, But qualifying or charity or, like, how are you going to get it?
Like, guys, it's Claire Holt.
Like, we're going to be fine.
Would anyone be mad if I just, like, jumped a fence and ran the race?
No, no, no, no, no.
You're not banded against.
Oh, okay.
I get a bit.
I get a bit.
No.
Okay.
I'm not going to band it.
Oh, my gosh.
Oh, sorry.
People would be mad.
They get mad about it.
I get it.
Oh, you'd be mad.
She's nodding.
She's like, get off the stage.
No, but you know what?
Someone made a comment backstage and said, you've raised $250,000 for charity.
I think you could run it.
And I think that's fair, right?
Okay, thanks.
So I'll see you on Monday.
Can you imagine how much okay in the past couple hours, like how much did you actually think about it and picture it?
So much.
More than I'd like to let on.
I texted my sister.
I said, is it crazy if I just run it?
She was like, yes.
What?
Yes.
Yes.
Okay.
I want to know more about your relationship with your sister, because you also called her during that first New York and you were like run with me for a bit.
So what does she ever just get like?
Hey, how's it going calls or is no, both of us are just crisis calls exclusive.
Love it.
Like I want to run another marathon.
I should, I have another baby.
What do I, you know, we don't hug also, which is so weird.
My sister and I like, she's my best friend in the whole world.
If she tried to hug me, I would feel not well.
Like the scene from Step Brothers where they just can't figure it out.
It's exactly like that.
We've hugged five times and it's when each of us had babies.
That was it.
The rest of the time we like maybe high five.
Anyway, she's the one who talks me off the ledge or talks me out of bad ideas.
And she seems to think that running on Monday is a bad idea, which it probably is.
So she always wants to talk you out of that?
Yeah.
Is that what you want, Claire?
Exactly.
What am I doing?
Which is more likely, your next marathon or that you would have another baby?
I don't know.
I go back and forth every day.
See which happens first, I guess.
No, no, no.
That's a fun game.
I'm so happy with three babies.
I think I just like pain.
Which I need to talk to a therapist about.
Yeah, why just share it with a room full of strangers?
And none of them are going to help you because they're all doing the same thing.
You guys love pain too, so we're friends.
We're all making those same phone calls.
No one's on the receiving end of them.
It's so true.
But also, if we are, we're like, no, no, no, you should run Boston Monday.
You should definitely do it.
I'll make a call.
Of course you should.
What are you, afraid?
Yeah.
Do it.
You scared?
Yeah.
What do you need?
What do you need to make it happen?
Probably like 809 gels.
Easy.
I think.
You're in Boston.
Someone probably has 8 or 9 gels in their bag.
We could go around this room and collect 8 or 9.
I don't know if your stomach would like 8 or 9 different.
I honestly could.
I brought my stuff for my send at 5K.
So we've committed to sending it at the 5K.
We're thinking about Monday.
And when we do your race recap, you're going to be like, and I'm pregnant.
I feel like we're all good influences and we're having fun.
So the good thing about saying you're going to send it is like if I don't run that fast, I'll be like Oh no, I didn't actually want to do that.
I chose vibes.
I ran a 20 minute, 30 second vibes 5K.
High fives everywhere.
The first two miles are just like six flat, six flat, 940.
But like that was the goal.
Exactly.
Like I wanted to take it all in.
I wanted to positive split a lot.
Do you want to know my catchphrase?
Yeah.
Positive splits for positive people, babe.
Love that.
So none of you are allowed to positive split.
Okay.
Negatives only.
That's my, no, I'm kidding.
Do whatever you want.
Have fun.
High five.
I love it.
Are you running with a playlist tomorrow?
Do you know what I love to do?
I love to put these motivational playlists on where, like men yell at me yes, someone else does.
What wait you do, do you okay?
Do you mean like eminem, like you better mom spaghetti?
Or like tony robbins yeah, you better mom spaghetti?
No, it's not even kind, tony robbins, it's like there's my favorite one is called shut up, And it's basically like you gotta tell that voice in your head to shut up.
Like, I'm too tired, shut up.
This is on Spotify?
Oh yeah.
I have an amazing playlist.
And it's like David Goggins-esque, but not quite as mean as him.
It's a little more motivational.
Kind of like Navy SEALs.
It's the greatest thing of all time.
Is that to a beat?
No.
Oh, well, there's some, like, instrumental, like, cinematic music in the background.
Come on, guys.
You've got to have found these.
It's like my last six miles of every marathon is just men yelling at me that I can do this and I'm not allowed to quit.
The last thing I want in life is another man yelling at me.
It will not make me run faster.
I will reroute and really change my plans.
We've already established that I have issues.
I do too, but I'm worried mine are slightly more violent and yours are a bit more productive.
Listen, it works.
I'll tell you.
It's more... They're motivational for sure.
So you have 20 minutes of that ready for tomorrow?
Queued up, baby.
Great promo for Sharks headphones.
I do love my Sharks headphones.
That's good.
I do love them.
I'll be wearing them tomorrow.
They're not charged.
Better charge them.
How did you find...
How did you find that that was a thing and how did you find that that worked for you?
You know I think I was.
I was meticulous about my playlist for New York and I queued up like songs to every mile and this one's going to come on this month, and then it didn't work.
So I was like, well, better find something else then.
And I think I was listening to like a Denzel Washington motivational speech that someone had sent me on Spotify at one point.
It's brilliant.
No, it's a speech he made like a commencement speech, I think.
And then, you know, Spotify just like plays the next thing.
And another one came on.
I was like, I think I like this.
And another one, and another one.
And then I made this playlist.
I make my kids listen to it.
Like I'm really, I'm a bit of a tiger mom actually, I think, but.
What do your kids think of running?
Are they into it?
Are they invested?
It's so cute.
I thought that they would not be into it, because there are times where you know dad's going to the soccer game, because I'm going to run for three hours.
And they're so cute.
They're so proud of me.
Every time I come back from a race, they're like, what did you come, mom?
I say, oh, 11,000.
They're like, that's great.
You just got to try a bit harder next time.
You're going to get there.
They're really sweet about it.
You have talked before about early in running about feeling a bit of imposter syndrome.
Is that still a thing for you?
Yeah, and I feel like I'm a little desensitized by social media about like what is fast and running a marathon.
It looks so easy.
There's all these people running so many marathons and they're so fast.
I'm like, oh God, I'm the slowest person ever.
I should just stop.
And then I have to remind myself, no, it's actually really hard to run a marathon.
Like it's not as easy as everyone makes it look.
And so, but I love it.
I'm so addicted to it.
And I also like to shit talk it a lot and, and say like, it's, Oh, I got a train, but I secretly, I just obsessed with it.
It's all I want to do.
I want to be a professional.
I'm not quite good enough, but you've gotten real fast.
Oh, stop.
Keep going.
Okay, to what do you attribute your My the 60 men at the track session on Wednesday mornings that make me run as fast as them?
And the men yelling at you in your headphones.
And the men, oh God.
Do I have daddy issues?
Are we unpacking something?
What's going on?
Oh, no.
Oh, no.
Let's go to the next question.
No, you know what?
Here's what it is.
I want to be able to compete with the boys.
I have this drive in me that's like, well, how hard can it be?
Boys do it.
And so that's what it is.
My friend Mads Mitchell coined that.
She's got this shirt that says it.
And anyway, I really want to be able to keep up with them.
And I want to be the fastest girl in my run club.
And I want to be the fastest girl in my 5K.
I will not be tomorrow.
But maybe if I sign up for a little local podunk 5K, I might.
We'll see.
Find one.
Middle of nowhere.
You oh, let's trade places.
Okay, you come to my town and you can run the hopkinton winter series 5k, number two.
I'll be right there.
You will win.
Beautiful, i just want to win and i'll go to your workout.
Oh perfect, solved it.
Um, how is?
How will your new boyfriend reed, feel about that?
This is not an actual thing.
However, am I interested in Reed Weissman, the astronaut?
I am so interested.
Don't you think they'd make such a cute couple?
Wouldn't we be cute?
They're so... Oh, my God.
I know.
So now that it's out there... Does anyone know him?
Shoot.
Anyone work at NASA?
Nothing?
Nothing?
Okay.
Okay, we've got to slide into his DMs.
All right, that's fine.
Okay, great.
We'll do that after the show.
We spoke earlier this week, and we had a quick little call about the show.
And as I always ask, is there anything off limits?
I don't even think I finished asking the question before you went, nope.
And I was like, hell yeah, I love this.
I'm regretting that now.
And then I said, is there anything you definitely do want to talk about?
And do you remember what you said?
No.
Alex Earlworth.
No!
No, we won't.
We're not going to talk about it.
That was a joke.
We're not going to talk about it, but... We're not.
We're good.
Don't worry.
We're not going to talk about it.
But...
Sometimes it's fun to just like gossip about low stakes stuff, right?
Like The Bachelor, like Summer House.
And one thing that we were talking about was that when you were in the tent the starting tent before the New York City Marathon
Yep.
Paint a picture.
Who's in there?
There is some bachelor drama going on in that.
No, it's not.
So Tayshia and Zach both run marathons.
I love them.
They're both so nice and lovely and wonderful.
But, you know, they were engaged and then they weren't.
After the New York City Marathon.
And I am dying to know what happened on that course.
Do you know?
On the course or between the two of them?
I know neither.
Between the two of them on the course.
Oh.
Because they were together one year and then they ran the marathon.
Oh, that's when they were together.
And then they weren't together.
And so I want to know what happened.
I think that they ran.
Well, Zach's really fast now.
Yeah.
He did a three.
Did he do a three?
I think that's his goal.
Maybe that's his goal.
It's coming.
Well, he's running a lot faster than us.
So there was no crossover on the course, unfortunately.
I would have liked a little.
But no.
There's some amazing people who run those races, though.
You ended up running 20 miles of the New York City Marathon course with my idol.
Is she your idol?
I love her.
Okay, Jennifer Connelly.
Who?
What movie is she in?
Top Gun Maverick.
She's one of my favorites.
Incredible.
Okay, so I want to hear more about that.
How did you end up running together?
What was that like?
She was the best.
She just walked in so low-key, like sweatshirt tied around her waist.
And I obviously went up and tried to make friends with her immediately, as you would do.
And I said, well, what time do you want to run?
And I just run Chicago three weeks earlier.
So in my head, I was like, I don't care what I run.
I'm going to run like slow.
It doesn't matter.
Like I hit my goal time.
I'm going to have so much fun this race.
And she goes, I was thinking about like maybe a 350.
I was like, same.
That's so wild that you say that because that's exactly the time that I am planning on running.
Okay.
So why don't you and I just team up?
We'll help each other out.
She was like, okay.
I'm like, let's go, Jen.
So we ran the first 20 miles together and I filled her in on all the tea from the tent and who dated who?
And you know this iconic.
Was she into it?
She acted like she was like to be nice to me.
I think she was probably like can I just focus on the mile I'm in and the gel I'm eating and like running my first marathon, please?
Me like chatting her ear off.
No, she was so cool and so amazing and so beautiful and so fast.
I think she ran a 345, her first marathon, like amazing.
Have you kept in touch?
I wish.
I mean, we follow each other on Instagram.
I think we should fact check that.
Imagine she unfollowed me.
We don't do that.
Oh, no.
I think.
Do you block people online?
Yeah, I do.
What does it take to get blocked by Claire Holt?
Just say one thing I don't like, you're out of there.
I'm kidding.
I'm kidding.
No, you have to be pretty mean to get blocked by me.
Do you know if you've ever been blocked?
I'm certain I've been blocked.
Really?
For sure.
Yeah, people blocked me for sure.
But I like to, it makes me feel powerful.
I'm like, this ain't a democracy.
You are out of here, sir.
You say one mean thing to me.
They cross the line, they're gone.
It's funny because, you know, sometimes you get really upset by what people say to you and you think oh, they don't know me and I would never, and that's not what I meant and that's misinterpreted, and I just try and be a good, And then you go spiralling and then you're like, wait a second, I can just make them disappear.
And I never have to see another comment ever again.
And then that's what I do.
What is your relationship with Strava like?
Not good.
I have about four followers.
It's not like I have this massive Strava following that I'm trying to impress.
But those four people I am obsessively trying to impress.
And every Zone 2 run ends up not being a Zone 2 run.
Because I'm like, well, what if they're watching and they think I'm slow?
And so my dad always gives me kudos.
Shout out to my dad.
He's one of the four followers.
He's one of the four.
My dad's an amazing athlete.
I have yet to beat his marathon time, unfortunately.
He's also an Ironman, which is very cool.
I know he's super cool, my dad.
Does he have the tattoo?
No.
Wait, does anyone here have it?
Who's got the Iron Man tattoo?
Where was the person who listens to the angry men?
Yeah.
I feel like that could be your vibe.
You know, I saw someone at the gym the other day with it on his leg and I went oh God, that's not a good look, is it?
I'm sorry.
Do you have tattoos?
Yeah.
What do you have?
To be fair, I have a very embarrassing one on my foot.
That's like swirly writing that says gratitude that I got when I was 18.
It's a nice sentiment.
It's an insane tattoo to get.
So I can't really talk.
But yeah, and then I have my kids' names, my husband's initials.
He has not returned that, which is...
I bring up often.
He's just making sure, you know.
And then my siblings, my grandpa's husky.
So yeah, I have tattoos, but I think the Iron Man one is aggressive.
It's the red guy with the, that's a lot.
Yeah.
And this one was like an entire calf.
That's where it's always.
Is that the rule?
Does it have to be on the calf?
Because it always is like you know what?
Show me, you're an iron man.
Put it on your lower back.
Yeah, tramp stamp baby.
Yeah, you want to commit to the bit guys?
My husband, my husband, has a tramp stamp.
Yeah, he got it when he was 18 and he it's so funny, it's my favorite fact about him.
It's right on his lower back and he got like a billiard ball when he was 18 and then he tried to cover it up with a tribal sun.
And then he was like, oh no, this is worse.
Let me laser it off.
Too much ink.
So now it's just a splodge.
He's very cool about it.
Such a confident man.
He doesn't care.
He goes to the beach.
He shows it off.
So was the too much ink the combination?
Did the tribal sun go away and now we're just a billiard ball?
No, there's a few sun rays still poking out of this.
There's got to be some kind of metaphor there.
He could just put my initials over the top and it'd be fine.
Problem solved.
One day.
Do you remember when you first felt like or identified as a runner?
I want to say training for my first.
Like I always ran and I love to run, but four or five miles was kind of my max.
And then when I really locked in and started training for a marathon, that was when I just obsessed about it.
And I followed every single runner on Instagram and I bought every single piece of gear.
I read every blog.
I just like hyper-focused.
And now it's like my whole personality.
Have you, other than the people at your new track group, which I love?
Do you have a lot of running friends where you just like sit down like this and just nerd out on running?
Not really.
That was my sister until she got a stress fracture.
So rude.
So she couldn't run.
Selfish.
So selfish.
No, you know, I made a lot of friends running marathons, like I met, like you, I met amazing people and I've stayed friends with so many of them and it's just like such an awesome community.
Runners are the best.
Why do you think that is?
Why are we so great?
We like so many reasons.
How long do we have?
No, I mean, I think we all like commit, pushing ourselves.
And that's a really cool thing.
And and it's easy to say you want to do something, but like to actually sign up and follow through and do the training and show up on the day like that's tough.
That takes a lot.
So I think we have respect for each other and we're all like a little bit mentally ill, which works so well.
My therapist loves that phrase mentally ill.
She uses it a lot and sometimes about me and sometimes about definitely about me.
But, um, yeah, I like resonate with that.
Yeah, me too.
Yeah.
I love it.
Uh, you seem competitive.
Very.
Are you more competitive with others or with yourself?
Um, with the Strava stats that I'm going to get that I'm going to share on Instagram.
That's the way I'm just kidding.
Uh, with myself, but I don't want people to think I'm slow.
So then, but what does that mean?
Like, do you have a number in your mind?
Like, um, so arbitrary.
Oh, totally.
Like in my head I was like okay, if I can't run under 20 minutes for a 5k, then that, then I'm not a real runner.
Oh God.
Sorry.
They hated that.
To me, you guys could run whatever you want.
No, that was my goal in my head.
Right.
And then with the marathon it was I want to run under four hours, and then I want to run under three 30.
I didn't get the three.
I haven't got the three 30 yet.
I got three 39.
Um, but I think I'm, it's definitely not coming on Monday.
That will not, won't be hitting that.
Or will I?
Well, only one way to find out.
I don't know.
What else?
Yeah, it's going to be a perfect day for the runners, I think.
Who's spectating?
Who's going to be out there?
Guys, what are our signs?
Okay, I need to go to a craft store and buy a thing and make a sign.
If you don't run.
You mean?
Yeah, right.
Okay, yeah.
No, I'm going to run with the sign in a Mario costume.
If I don't run, I'll be making a sign.
Have we got signs?
Has everyone got this ready?
No, we're just cheering.
Are we a crafty bunch?
What does yours say?
Ted Lasso believe.
I love that.
Oh, you brought your sign.
Go, go, go, Megan, Shelby, Zach.
Therapy was also an option.
I tried that.
It hasn't worked yet.
But running is working.
I love when people are like, running is cheaper than therapy.
I'm like, it's literally not.
I'll show you how much I spend on running and I'll show you how much I spend on therapy.
The ones in New York I love.
They're really savage.
Are they a savage here?
They are.
Yeah, Boston's like an edgy city.
What was the one that I saw?
New York was like this feels like a lot just do Ozempic.
Oh my god.
I was like that is so funny, though like really dark humor, really dark, which i was into it.
I like a duck, like there was someone in in brooklyn and they they the sign just said you have a really long way to go.
It's like respect.
You also seem to do well with just absolute brutal honesty, i guess.
So What else in life other than running, what else are you competitive about?
Like, do you let your kids win games on game night?
Yeah, I'm pretty soft like that.
And I know that's the wrong thing to do.
You let them win?
But they just have little puppy dog eyes.
They're so sweet.
And it's also just like easier to let them.
It's way easier, because then there's going to be a tantrum and then I'm going to have to deal with a fallout.
I don't always let them win.
But I feel like I'm not really that competitive in general except for like endurance sports.
Are you a chill driver?
Like are you calm on the roads?
Yes, you are.
I'm a terrified driver.
I think something happened to me as a kid.
I was in some car that I'm like so, I'm very chill.
I have no road rage.
I follow all the road rules.
I indicate.
Why are you so shocked?
I'm not.
I'm just hoping my dad, are you listening to this?
My dad's a savage?
Oh, God.
I think my dad's a savage.
How much did you in the audience when she said I think something happened to me as a kid in a car, were you like don't tell it?
Don't tell it.
What happened?
Tell the story.
There was a speeding incident.
It wasn't speeding.
Yeah, just don't mess with David Feller on the road.
But also, he doesn't use a turn signal.
So, pot kettle, I know.
And you know what's funny, and I shouldn't admit this to you, because I'll never hear the end of it.
You don't use it.
So I do.
Oh, good.
But lately I've been like Like I use it even if I'm turning into my driveway and I live on a country road.
And this week I didn't use my turn signal, turning into my driveway at like eight o'clock at night when no one was awake in my entire town.
And I was like, oh my God, I'm becoming my father.
Like.
This is another sign that I am becoming my dad and I would have texted you, but you don't like texts um, you don't, so i didn't.
But yeah, there were.
There were times as a kid in the car.
Yeah, for sure, my dad did the same thing.
But also, you were on the other side of the road right, and do you think that could be a part of it?
What was it like learning to drive?
Not the easiest.
I was pretty terrified.
That might be why i'm like i indicate, and You Americans are ruthless.
And you're in Boston right now.
I know.
I will not subscribe in here.
I don't want to make people mad.
You folks are great.
My husband's from just outside of Boston.
I love people from Massachusetts.
You guys are my people.
I do too.
But in New Hampshire, we do have a name for them.
Oh, I know that name.
I refuse to say it.
I don't believe it.
I don't use it.
Just like my dad doesn't use his turn signal.
But the name is out there.
What is it?
Why do you live in Miami?
My husband kind of like hoodwinked me into moving there.
He was like, babe, I could show this all the time in a warm climate.
It became like oh well, maybe we'll just like spend a little bit of time there and see if we like it.
And then, you know, we were living there full time, kids in school.
It's really funny, though.
I didn't like it for a long time because I couldn't find my people.
And then when I joined this round club, I found my people and now I love it.
Isn't that beautiful?
Yeah.
You've got to find the people.
You might be able to tell.
Claire has a beautiful accent that I love.
But for our next trivia question, does anyone know more specifically than just the country or the continent?
Just anything more specific than that.
Where's Claire from?
It would be wild if someone could get this.
What?
Oh, whoa.
Oh.
Damn.
Brisbane?
Did you say Brisbane?
Yeah, Brisbane.
There you go.
Can we get Jamie?
Okay.
Beautiful Jamie delivering another pair of socks right here.
It was between the two of you.
Isn't it hard?
That's why I make you choose.
I don't want this job.
I know I hate that part.
What are you into right now?
Books, movies, TV shows, hot gossip.
What's exciting to you?
What's taking up your time?
Hot gossip, reading.
I'm obsessed with reading.
I love to read.
I'm like a Kindle gal.
Romantasy, I love that genre.
Fantasy.
What?
No, I love that for you.
Have you read any?
No.
But I have actually seen all the way to the end of Instagram.
Have you?
While you're reading all your books, I've consumed the internet.
That is cool.
Yeah.
Get back to me when you've done TikTok as well.
I'm too old.
No, you're not.
No one's too old, I'm telling you.
It's good.
I just, okay.
It's very good.
Maybe you can teach me.
I have an hour later.
You're like, I'm still here.
I don't know what's going on.
Yeah.
My screen time is not good.
And I always tell myself, I'm like, yeah, but like, this is my job.
I tell myself that too.
That's, it's, that's work.
It's a write off.
Yeah.
Dad, did I do it right?
Sundays now.
You do phone free Sunday.
Okay.
Where did the idea come from and how do you implement it?
And do you ever cheat?
Um, I cheat to like order a pizza, but I won't touch it for social media at all.
Anything like that.
So, and maybe this is too personal.
Ask.
So on Sunday.
Yeah.
If you have to like go to the bathroom, just got, you just got to go sit there.
With your thoughts.
Crazy concept.
Yeah, like if i start walking toward the bathroom and there's not a phone in my hand i'm like oh, gotta go back.
Like no, doesn't matter the urgency.
It's wild.
The first day you find yourself like constantly going for it and then you realize you're so productive, you get so much done.
But how do you get stuff done without your phone?
Like try it, what do you try it on sunday or something?
Are you knitting?
No, I'm, I'm locking in with my kids is what I'm doing.
I'm like teaching them.
Yeah, they're there.
I'm teaching them, like the, the games I used to play as a kid, you know, like foot wrestling and yeah, it's so fun.
Oh my gosh.
I love it.
And then I realized, like how much time I spend with my face in this screen and it's really, it's beautiful.
Phone free Sundays.
Try it.
Okay, my first applause.
I've been waiting this whole time, dad.
My dad's like yes, get my daughter off her phone.
Um, it's a write-off.
It's a write-off which is a phrase that i use for everything, for everything.
Coffee it's right off.
I need energy to do my job.
Guess what?
I don't drink coffee.
What i know?
I have this amount of energy all the time.
What i know?
You're so lucky.
I already told cousin jackie i was like we're waking up at six tomorrow and then we're doing this and this and this.
I was like i will be on my vibration plate, which i brought to boston by 6 10, and she was like, oh god.
So if anyone sees cousin jackie sleeping on a sidewalk later, It's because that was the better option.
You can stay with me, Cousin Jackie.
I'll have coffee for you when you wake.
Wait.
Yeah, no, it's not for me.
It's one of those things.
That's amazing.
Much like hard drugs that I think if I tried it, I would love it.
Fair point.
I think I would be a better version of myself on it.
And so it's best to just not go down that road.
That's totally fair.
You've done therapy, I can tell.
It's also just like a line item on the budget.
Like, I don't know how much cocaine costs, but... Someone here could probably tell us.
Can't be cheap.
There's someone here who knows.
Anyone?
Does anyone know?
Okay, let's do a couple rapid fire questions, shall we?
Favorite race you've ever run.
Oh, New York with Jennifer Connelly.
Yeah.
No, Chicago.
I did love the Chicago Marathon.
Why?
Tell us more about Chicago.
We talked about Chicago.
That was the one I really wanted to prove something to myself.
I just had my third kid and I wanted to take the power back because I had such a negative association with the marathon and how hard it was.
And...
I had an awesome race and the last six miles I had those crazy men yelling at me in my ear and I felt like I was Conor Mance.
I was flying, flying at the end.
I crossed that finish line and cried like a baby and went back and gloated for a very long time.
It was great.
The course is nice.
It's flat.
Yeah.
That helps.
That helps.
Also, don't do drugs.
Join drugs.
Don't do hard drugs.
Are we going back to that?
No, I just felt like I should have said that before.
My niece and nephew are here.
She didn't listen to a single thing I said.
She was just going, oh my God, I told them to do drugs.
I told them I wanted to do drugs.
We did chat backstage.
So something to know about me is I am like the most sensitive person on the planet.
And I only like compliments and positive affirmation.
And I take everything really personally.
And yet I have found myself in some really specific friendships where their love language is just making fun of me tirelessly.
That doesn't work.
Um, and one of the funny comments from a friend backstage was that i ask questions for a living but i don't always listen.
But i was listening, you were listening chicago yeah yeah, you were just worried about something else.
That's fair.
I do that all the time.
I just also needed to circle back corporate speak.
What is the most nervous you've ever been for a race?
Oh, it's a toss up between the first one I did and the last one I did.
Why the last one?
Oh, it's like such a boring, annoying sob story.
But I'd gotten strep, like two weeks before from my kid and I'd had antibiotics and I was not feeling great.
And I'd loaded too much sodium because I train in Miami and I sweat all the time and it was cold in New York.
And just all of the things like sometimes it's not your day and it.
I woke up and it just didn't feel like my day and I had put all of this pressure on myself to run a certain time and I knew that it was probably not going to happen.
But I was like oh, what if it does?
Maybe maybe, and so I
I think my heart rate was probably like 125 just standing at the start line.
It was crazy.
I don't handle anxiety well, and I don't handle adrenaline well as well, actually.
So, yeah, the last one was tough for me.
It almost made me retire, but I'm going to come back on Monday and take the power back.
LAUGHTER
Like how much closer we're getting in the course of this conversation.
The hardest race you've ever run.
The last one.
It was so rough.
So I started to get really dizzy from mile four.
Four?
Yeah, four.
That's too early.
No, way too early.
And I think it must have been like to do with the sodium or something.
I don't know.
Maybe I couldn't take my gels because the antibiotics had messed up my gut a little bit.
So I was super dizzy and I couldn't take my fuel.
And then the thing that stopped me, like I felt like I was going to pass out all the time and I kept doing like the double inhale exhale thing.
I looked like an absolute fruit loop.
And then I was running with my beautiful friend and she got tripped at mile 13, I want to say by someone, by accident.
Obviously they didn't do it on purpose, but she went face first and she was bleeding and just like she got back up and ran faster than me.
Did you stop to help her?
Yeah, of course.
What do you think I am, a monster?
Stop!
In my head, I was like, okay, if I don't need my time goal, this is going to be the excuse.
I'm going to look like a great person.
No, she was amazing.
She still beat me because she's an incredible runner.
But it was just like a lot of things were going wrong.
I couldn't even take my phone out to like call it.
I just fell.
The marathon was on a Sunday, Claire.
Yes, I hadn't started no phone Sunday at that point.
Unfortunately I will be on my phone this Sunday actually, I guess because I've got my kids around.
I'm on vacation.
You're on vacation.
But it was just hard the whole way.
And I really cried at the end and not because I was happy.
I finished, I cried because it was really hard.
And I just was like, why did I do that to myself?
Why did I do that?
I should have just slowed down.
I should have just had fun.
No one cares.
But in my head, you know, everyone cares.
So at what point was there a shift?
Because now even though whether you run on Monday or not, but you're going to run another marathon.
Because I like pain.
Oh, okay.
No, I don't know what it is.
I have this amnesia.
I have it about having babies as well.
Every time I have a baby, I'm like not doing that again.
I referred to childbirth once like recently as I was like, it's kind of fun.
It is so fun.
Can you imagine being in the throes of it and be like, you guys would love it.
You all love pain.
You would love it.
You know who would love it?
The men screaming at you in your men's screaming.
They'll never know it.
You do feel powerful.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So that feeling, I crave that feeling.
Wow.
I know.
Do drugs give you that feeling?
Should I try that?
I don't know.
Anyone know?
My dad laughed way too hard.
So we'll talk about that later.
Your dream race.
Is there a race you're dying to do?
Oh, gosh.
Yeah, I really would love to do Boston.
I would, but I hear it's tough, no?
Who's running it?
You're tough.
It's all downhill?
What's it, New York's harder?
Is it?
Wait, is that a unanimous?
Okay, we're taking it to the crowd.
Okay, hands up.
Of those who have run both, just give us a cheer.
Who thinks Boston is harder than New York?
Medium.
Who thinks New York is harder than Boston?
Oh, okay.
Okay, so I should do it then.
I mean, we're coming up with a lot of reasons to say yes.
New York feels really hard.
Like, there's a lot of elevation in that race.
Yeah, but it's so pretty and fun.
It's so pretty and fun.
Except it's so mean to do those hills at the end.
Like, they do it here too, right?
Where's Heartbreak Hill?
17 to 20?
Huh?
Huh yeah, there's four.
Yeah, but do they come down?
Okay, it's not just like i don't know it could be.
Oh, that's rough.
That's not a great time to have them, is it?
It's great.
Then what's the last six miles?
Like oh okay, so i will do it.
Then guys, The journey I've been on tonight.
No, I can't.
People will be mad at me.
What is the worst thing that's ever happened to you on the run?
Well, I haven't shot myself, thank God, because that happened to someone at mile 16 in my first marathon.
I remember you talking about seeing that.
It was, well, I didn't see it, but I saw him go, oh God, oh God.
And then he was like grabbing and like doing this.
And it was the worst possible place to have done it, because right when you come into Manhattan and there's just thousands of people in the crowd, you're like sir, you cannot trust a fart in a marathon.
You've obviously never run one before.
No.
Yeah.
So I haven't, what's the worst thing that's ever happened to me?
Just the last eight miles of each one, I think.
Or maybe what's the worst part?
I feel like maybe 18 to 23 is pretty rough.
And then after 23, you're like, okay, I'm at the end.
It's just, it's a 5k.
It's just a 5k.
Just like tomorrow.
Just like tomorrow.
Yeah.
Do you, how do you feel about 5k?
I actually think it's beautiful distance.
Three miles.
So fun.
Except if you try, you're really competitive.
You want to run it really fast and then it really hurts.
Yeah.
It's really fun to do a 5k like fun run.
Love them.
I did the Diplo one, and that was awesome.
Oh, yeah, you did do that.
Did the Diplo 5K.
Those vibes, highly recommend, guys.
Oh, I thought you were doing something very different with that hand gesture.
No, I wasn't smoking weed and doing the Diplo 5K.
No, no, no.
But it was awesome because he does a concert after at like 11 a.m.
That's right up my alley.
I want to be asleep by 7 every night.
Yes, yes.
I wish, as adults, we could just collectively get on board with like.
Like I will say, right now is the latest.
I've been like out in a while.
Like I am already and I'm so happy to be here.
Like literally nowhere I'd rather be except maybe on the stage wearing my robe.
Like the fact that it is after seven and I'm not wearing a robe is unsettling.
Yeah, it's pretty crazy.
So for the next one, different dress code.
Robes.
Like what was I trying to prove?
You look hot, babe.
I will read.
Someone's going to send this to read.
This room full of hype girls.
Mom and dad, would you approve if...
My second husband was an astronaut or just like a person I hung out with for fun.
Thank you.
Oh my God.
That is a zaddy right there.
I'm sweating.
Yeah.
Okay.
Okay.
Read.
Sam, you've got to take that away.
She's sweating.
Yeah, profusely.
What is the best thing that's happened to you on the run?
The best thing?
I want to say just witnessing the best side of humanity.
Everyone cheering, everyone on the same team for one day.
Like people want you to do well.
People, strangers are cheering for you.
You're cheering for other strangers.
Everyone's helping each other.
There's no divide on that day.
It's just like all beautiful love.
And I think that's why I keep doing it because I don't know where else you find that.
I don't.
Beautifully said.
Yeah, clap for that.
That was lovely.
What do you think you're going to be like as a spectator?
Aggressive.
I'm going to be like the man in my headphones.
You should be mic'd.
You tell that voice to shut up.
No, no, no.
Have Luke mic you up.
During the race.
Should I mic myself up?
And release that because I would listen to that, right?
Like men in my ear, simply not happening ever again in life.
But you in my ear yelling, that I could get on board with.
My favorite thing to do is to chirp at the boys at run club.
And I'll be running past and I'll go, come on, you can't be beaten by a girl.
They hate it.
It's the best.
I'm going to say that.
I'm like, I just saw a girl faster than you.
Better keep going.
That's me all day on Monday.
There's a girl ahead of you.
But then how do you feel if they pass you?
The boys?
Yeah.
They don't.
Oh, hell yeah.
I love that.
I will die before they pass me after I've talked smack.
Amazing.
Amazing.
All right, we have a tradition on the Alley on the Run show where we play a game at the end, and it is a twist on the classic game Scattergories, which is my favorite game.
Beautiful.
You want to know where I'm competitive?
Yeah, Scattergories.
Oh, I'm getting triple word score every time.
Wow.
Like, yeah, mom, we played last week.
Who won?
I did.
She said I did.
She's not mic'd, but if she were, you could hear that nice and loud.
So it's categories.
I am going to give you a category, like something in your refrigerator.
And you have to answer using the letter.
And look at how we have upgraded.
I ordered the die from the actual Scattergories game.
Beautiful.
And so, Claire, you're just going to give this a roll on the floor.
Okay.
And let's see what your letter is going to be.
This feels S. S. Oh, thank you.
A great letter.
This is going to be a breeze.
Okay.
Okay.
Are you ready to play this edition of Clarigories?
Oy, I didn't realize this was going to be a test.
Oh, you hate it.
No, keep going.
Let's see.
I'm competitive.
I guess I am outside of running.
Okay, so everything has to start with the letter S. Okay.
How you're feeling right now.
Sublime.
Sweaty.
Same.
Same.
How it feels being in Boston?
Sexy.
Loving this.
A place you've run before?
Oh.
Where have I run with an S?
Where oh, usually the crowd.
I love how you were all helping me, though you wanted me to get that.
I feel like you're all usually pretty chill until the last couple, but i like that you're already jumping in.
You're like, there we go, phone a friend, they've got you south beach.
I live in miami, you idiot, so dumb a place.
You'd love to run.
Definitely Switzerland.
You're not even giving her a chance.
No, don't, guys.
I don't want to think.
I'm done thinking.
All right, name any runner.
Sarah Hall.
How much do you follow the professional side of running?
I'm obsessed with it.
I watch all their YouTubes.
You do?
Yeah, when I'm on the treadmill, I watch their YouTubes.
Who do you love?
I just watched the Conor Mance one where he broke the record.
That was a good one.
Yeah.
He's quite little, isn't he?
I didn't realize.
Yeah.
Yeah, he's very fast.
Very fast.
No shame there.
Yeah, not super like tall.
No, no, he's very fast.
I really liked that.
I love that you are nerding out on Pro Runner YouTube.
There's this other one called, a guy called Floberg.
I follow him.
Anyone watch him?
Eric Floberg.
Yeah, of course.
I like his channel.
Yeah, no, I love it.
I love to watch the Iron Man as well and women, Lucy Charles Barkley.
Oh, they're YouTubes.
I thought you meant like the live streams of an Iron Man.
I do that as well.
You're committed.
No, no, I do that as well.
I'm a psycho about it.
If I'm not watching someone running or doing something hard when I'm running, I don't want to do it.
I just want to stop and sit down and watch the movie.
The movie.
The movie.
So if you weren't here on Monday, would you be watching the Boston Marathon?
Probably not.
I'm not going to lie to you.
Okay.
But you're invested in the personal stories.
No, I would be.
Yeah, I'm invested in the personal stories and I would be watching, like the last bits of the.
I'm not going to watch the whole two hours, am I?
Yeah, that's fair.
Maybe.
Yeah.
We'll get you.
You'll get me.
We'll get you.
I'll be running it, so I can't watch it.
Right.
Yes.
A food runner's love.
Spaghetti.
A food runner should probably not eat before a run.
Spicy food.
Perfect.
Name a Disney character.
Oh.
Snow White.
Thanks.
I thought that myself.
You didn't need to know that.
It was right there in my head.
Snow White.
A way to break a sweat.
My head went somewhere.
Dad, stop laughing.
Slalom skiing.
Skiing?
Skiing.
Oh, so I didn't need slalom, did I?
Well, no, slalom skiing is double word score.
Oh, slalom?
I should have better explained the rules.
Thank you so much.
If you do multiple, yeah.
Slalom skiing.
Yeah, you got it.
Something you might see on the run.
I was about to say shit, i'll allow it.
Something you wear on the run shocks headphones, baby.
Oh nailed it, that was a mic drop.
I'll be invited back next year.
Now uh, something great that might happen on the run.
Smile from a stranger.
Now she knows the rules.
Do you want to know my pet peeve?
When you give a hello and they don't wave back.
That's my version of road rage.
I chase them down and ask them why.
I get really mad.
Are you mad at me?
What's wrong with you?
Why didn't you say hello?
Yeah, what's your problem?
You hate me?
The weird thing is, Like I said, I live on these like country roads, right?
Like I get excited if I see a person, let alone a runner.
The best.
Every now and then I'll see either a walker or a runner and they don't even look.
No, it's crazy.
It's crazy.
And I'm like, what are you looking at if not me?
Is there anyone here who doesn't say hi back?
They just lock in.
Someone, I heard it.
A tiny peep.
You're all wavers, smilers.
Good, good, nice, nice.
Okay, found my people.
You found your people.
Something, that was something great that might happen on the run.
Someone you'd love to run with.
Oh.
Sarah Hall, for sure.
You can't repeat.
Damn.
Hmm?
Oh, that's a double word.
I don't know who that is.
Susanna Sullivan's a pro runner.
Sydney McLaughlin?
Sydney McLaughlin, for sure.
Do you remember that we met in Boston?
She's basically our friend.
She's basically our friend.
I sat in the audience and I watched her do a Q&A, but she's in my head.
We're really close.
And I moderated the Q&A.
You did a great job.
And this was in October at the track at New Balance.
And after the event we took a group photo with.
It was like Sydney and a very important person at New Balance and a very important person at Tag Heuer and me.
And so we took a photo.
I wasn't invited to the photo, which was so weird, but it was fine.
Well, but then they took a group photo.
They were like, and let's do one with just the panelists.
And I was like, understood.
So I exit stage left.
And then they emailed after.
They emailed the gallery of photos to all of us.
And Sydney posted a bunch.
And when she posted the group photo.
You were in it?
I wasn't in it.
Oh.
Oh, you said that so hopeful.
Oh, no, that was a sad story.
That was a sad story.
Because S is our letter.
Got it.
So it's fine.
Then we hung out later, a month later with a bunch of you.
You did?
And it all worked out great.
We did a live show together.
Oh, God.
I love it.
Is there a baby here?
Give me that baby.
Oh!
Sorry, guys.
She's like, no, I'll bring it to you.
Love it.
Hello, Carly.
Oh, my God.
Okay, I'm going to have another baby and then I'll run another marathon.
So divine.
Congrats.
What?
That was amazing.
If there's a baby anywhere, I'm like, where is it?
Give it to me.
You just perk right up.
If you want to go on a date night, I'll take it.
Where are we at?
Someone you'd love to be stuck in an elevator with.
Oh, that baby.
Sorry.
Damn.
Someone give it to me.
Oh, yeah.
Safan Hassan in an elevator?
Yeah, she's a great time.
She's so funny.
Okay.
Remember when she did that viral thing?
I guess I just think about the question differently.
Oh.
Like, Reed Weissman's my answer.
Oh.
Reid Weissman.
I am so worried that one of you out there is going to send him a DM later.
I am.
What do you mean someone out there?
It's going to be me.
Well, that could, I mean, that could work.
I'll just keep messaging him every day.
Three of trying to get Reid to respond to me.
It's going to happen.
All right.
So who are you in the elevator with?
Stefan.
Okay.
A reason to run.
Stress and satisfaction and sunshine.
Okay, guys.
Great.
Sanity.
That's so true.
Okay.
Any word with the letter S.
Oh, it's the hardest one.
Yeah.
Why does my mind keep saying sex, sex, sex?
No!
I mean, it's okay.
Okay, that's it.
It's fine.
This is...
You know what this actually is?
This is the Allie on the Run show after dark.
Okay.
Beautiful.
Let's have some fun.
We'll sue cocaine.
No, I'm kidding.
I'm kidding.
But does anyone have any?
I'm kidding.
How much did it cost?
Sorry.
Chauvin-Marie.
Please let them come to more live shows.
I'm so sorry.
I'm just kidding.
They didn't realize how fun and cool you are.
You are.
You knew.
Oh, you knew.
I think that was an audience member and not my niece or nephew that said that.
Okay.
It was just a human.
It was just a person.
I do aspire to be cool, Aunt Allie.
You are very cool.
I'm telling you, look at those boots.
You think non-cool people wear boots like that?
Oh my God, thank you so much.
Does anyone here have a birthday today?
No birthdays?
Okay, I just wanted to check.
It would make me really sad if it was someone's birthday and I didn't know that.
So I just wanted to make sure.
Is it your birthday?
You lost your job today?
When one door closes, another opens, babe.
Jamie, can we get the third pair of headphones down in front?
Yes, yes, exactly that, exactly that.
We're not doing trivia.
We're going to get the girls some headphones.
There we go.
You!
And it's a write-off.
Sorry you were fired, but those are great headphones.
It's a write-off.
Oh, no, what did you do?
You're a teacher!
Does anyone need a teacher?
She goes, it's okay, it's okay.
You'll find your next thing.
And in the meantime, we hope you enjoy your Shox headphones.
Yes.
Thank you so much for being here.
And enjoy your vacation.
I also love that I was like, is it anyone's birthday?
And you go, I lost my job.
Those are the same.
But you know what?
Celebrate everything.
That's what I am here for.
So true.
Claire, before we let all of these beautiful people go, I would like for you to close us out with a pep talk.
And that can be whatever feels right to you.
I will admit I planned this question before.
Here's my pep talk.
When you want to quit on Monday...
Don't be a pussy.
No, I'm just kidding.
You're going to do so great.
I'm so inspired by all of you.
Sorry.
My mum and dad are going to be so mad at me.
Mine are here.
Don't quit you guys.
You're amazing.
Look what you've done.
Look how far you've come.
You've trained so hard.
Don't be a oh my gosh.
Let's do more after hours, after dark stuff.
Thank you all so much for being here.
And I really, really truly mean this.
There are 400,000 events this weekend.
I counted.
And there are roughly 400,000.
And I know that that can be overwhelming.
And I know that that also means you have a lot of decisions to make.
And it genuinely means so much that you chose to spend your Friday evening with Claire and me here at this amazing venue.
So thank you for being here and enjoying this evening with all of us, to Steven and the entire team at WBUR city space.
They have been so incredible to work with.
This is like legit.
This is like, there's cameras in the sky.
The green room is so fancy.
Like, We've made it.
Yeah, we have.
I know you've already made it.
No.
Not until this very moment, babe.
But truly, Stephen and the team, thank you so much for welcoming us into this space during Boston Marathon weekend.
I hope.
I hope Stephen has been sitting down during the show, because he too is running the 5K and the marathon.
Will he be sending it tomorrow before the marathon?
He seems like, did you see he was wearing a blazer?
He's going to send it.
He's going to send it.
You don't wear a blazer unless you... Steven, can I just like draft off you?
Just hang on to your coattails?
While screaming at you the whole time?
Yeah, exactly.
I'll be the motivation.
You just block the wind.
Dream team.
Dream team.
And, of course, to our amazing friends, our partners at Shox.
They have been I know I talk about this all the time.
I never want it to seem frivolous when talking about a brand, but there's so much more than that.
Yes, the headphones are amazing, but they have stepped up in so many ways and supported me and supported this community so much over the years.
And so I'm just so grateful to Seven, to Jamie, to the entire team there.
I'm sorry I said pussy.
I love you.
Yeah, that's all I do.
I buy the headphones myself.
Huge fan.
I won't swear next time.
And Claire.
Yeah.
Thank you so much for being here.
Thank you for coming up from Miami and enjoying the weekend.
Thank you.
Thank you all so much for joining us.
As always, you've got this.
You are doing great.
What she said.
And thank you for joining us on the run, having an amazing evening.
We will see you tomorrow.
We will see you on Monday.
Welcome to Boston, babes.
Let's go.
Love you.
Thank you so much for tuning into this episode of the alley on the run show with my guest, Claire Holt, recorded live at WBUR city space in Boston, presented by shocks.
This was so fun.
I hope you enjoyed listening to it, whether you're hearing it for the first time now, whether you were on the live stream and wanted to relisten, or if you were there in person and just wanted to relive the magic that is Claire Holt.
And to get one more of her amazing now iconic, very quotable pep talks.
I'm happy you're here.
Thank you so much to shocks for supporting this conversation and for doing so much, not just for me but for the entire alley on the run community and the running community at large.
They are showing up in so many amazing ways.
And it's awesome to see this brand grow. and take over and be so universally loved.
It's really cool.
Thank you again to the team at WBUR City Space.
Steven, the guy I got to work with our producer.
He ran the 5K and he's running the marathon, so sending him some extra love.
Man, that guy was working hard all weekend and then is running the race.
Very, very, very impressive.
All right.
You've got this.
You're doing great.
Thanks for joining me on the run.
