Have you ever left a meeting thinking, hey, I said everything right.
Why did nobody follow up?
It's probably not because you were wrong.
It's because you weren't interesting.
Welcome back to Speak Up, the number one right business communication podcast, where we help high performing introvert leaders including you, social introverts turn your ideas into influence and improve business outcomes.
Because being brilliant doesn't automatically make you influential.
I'm your host, Laura Camacho, your career accelerator and executive presence strategist and godmother.
By the end of today's short episode, you will know how to communicate in a way that builds trust faster and doesn't just grab attention.
Simple shifts that turn updates, opinions and ideas into clear leadership, and a practical framework of three shifts from becoming more memorable, more useful and more promotable in everyday work conversations.
Here's the uncomfortable truth being remembered is step one, but being trusted, that's what actually gets you promoted, and the bridge between these two is being just a little bit more interesting.
Now i'm not saying flashy or performative, or look at me me me me, just interesting enough that makes people think hey, That's a useful way to see it.
Interesting people are trusted faster.
Why?
Because they help people think better.
They make things more clear, faster, easier.
And that's when you reduce effort for someone. you build trust.
And if you do that for the top, top leaders or investors in your company, that's going to be so appreciated.
Now to get to this 1% more interesting, I'm going to give you three shifts in your thinking.
So number one is to go from reporting to guiding like you're not just there to share information.
Most people just report out.
This is what's going on.
They say we completed this analysis and maybe give all the steps that they went through.
OK, now what?
Trusted people guide.
They'll give you the analysis, a summary, and then say this analysis shows that we can reduce costs by 12.
And I recommend that we act this quarter because of A and B. Now that's being useful.
So shift number one, don't report, guide them.
Shift number two, go from neutral to insightful.
A lot of you are being neutral on purpose, and it's because you are probably taking the path of less risk.
You're thinking, well, they know more than I do.
I'll just present the facts.
But facts do not build trust.
Insight does.
So instead of, oh, we're seeing delays, say, these delays come from one bottleneck.
If we fix it, we can recover two weeks.
Specific is terrific.
Your job is not to add more information.
It's to make sense. the decision easier.
That is a big shift.
And the third one is to go from participation to sharing perspective.
It's subtle, but powerful.
So most people participate, right?
Oh, I agree with Susan.
And that's nice.
That's better than not saying anything, for sure.
But it doesn't move anything forward.
So try this instead.
I agree with Susan.
And the biggest risk I'm seeing with what she proposed is the timing.
If we act now, we can mitigate it.
That's a perspective.
That's what I call affirm and add.
And there's a full episode on that number 471, which I will link in the show notes.
It's a powerful tool.
You acknowledge and then you contribute value.
Why does this work?
Because your audience is overwhelmed.
They're juggling decisions, pressures, priorities, politics a lot.
And when you show up and make things more clear, you're giving relief.
And the person who gives relief is the person that people trust.
They want more of that.
Thank you.
So here's your 1% shift, right?
This is the good news is that you don't need a personality transplant.
You don't need to become a performer.
You just need to be 1% more interesting.
That's it.
That's my challenge to you.
Quick example instead of I work in finances, Say something like I help companies avoid expensive mistakes before they happen.
Same job, different impact.
And here's a filter you can use, with three questions, for you to ask yourself right before your next meeting.
Number one, what does my audience care about?
Number two, What's the clearest, most interesting way to say that?
And number three, what recommendation can I add?
That is how you become more memorable.
So be clear, be interesting, make recommendations.
You don't need more credentials.
You need 1% more intention.
And that is what will make you memorable, trusted, and promotable.
And if you want help with that, Feel free to grab my free executive presence scorecard.
There is a link in the second paragraph of the show notes and you can take it and see how you score in the four pillars of executive presence.
And I hope you have a glorious and wonderful day and I will catch you on the next episode.
