Releasing the Past: Preparing for 2026

As 2025 draws to a close, the host of Try Not To Care reflects on the necessity of shedding habits, relationships, and mindsets that no longer serve her. To make space for growth, she argues that one must clear out the "contradicting and complicated things" in life that do not align with one's desired future. This process is not about self-criticism, but about creating an attainable vision for 2026.

Breaking the Cycle of Inconsistency

A primary goal for the new year is ending the cycle of "starting things but not finishing them" or "half-assing" personal commitments. The host admits to struggling with maintaining simple routines—such as consistent dental hygiene or keeping a clean living space—often citing laziness or excuses. She notes that allowing her environment to become cluttered, whether it is physical mess or an inbox filled with "8,000 unread emails," creates visual overstimulation that hinders productivity. Moving forward, she intends to create a "realistic and attainable list" of habits, prioritizing structure to ensure she follows through rather than letting excuses derail her progress.

Redefining Relationships and Boundaries

The host emphasizes a shift in how she approaches interpersonal connections, specifically moving away from "forcing connections with people that aren't meant to be." She warns against "breadcrumbing," a behavior where individuals provide just enough attention to keep someone hopeful without offering any "consistent effort." She asserts that real, genuine friendships require "mutual effort." Furthermore, she is letting go of the pressure to "regulate other people's mental and emotional health." She notes that when a friend is unwilling to communicate, it is not her job to "solve a problem that is not yours to solve." Believing that "when someone shows you who they are, believe them," she is choosing to stop begging for time or energy from those who do not reciprocate.

Overcoming the Fear of Authenticity

One of the most significant mindsets the host is leaving in 2025 is the "fear of being me." She acknowledges that while she encourages others not to care what people think, she often falls into the trap of second-guessing her decisions due to fear of judgment. She realizes that her potential is being "stunted by my own self-limiting beliefs." By choosing to show up "shamelessly and authentically," she believes she can avoid the "imposter syndrome" that arises when one wears a mask to please others. She concludes that being disliked by some is a small price to pay for the fulfillment of being truly seen and appreciated for her authentic self.

Reframing Failure as Redirection

Finally, the host addresses the fear of failure, rejecting the idea that it leads to a "dead end." She posits that "rejection is redirection." Instead of viewing setbacks as proof that a goal is not meant for her, she plans to view them as opportunities to pivot. She regrets missing past opportunities, such as New York Fashion Week, due to a previous bad experience, and realizes that "one bad experience shouldn't determine my future." By detaching from rigid timelines and embracing the idea that failure is a "blessing in disguise," she aims to approach 2026 with resilience, trusting that if something does not work out, it is simply because something better is on the horizon.

📖 Transcript

Hello, welcome to or welcome back to Try Not To Care.
I'm really hoping that I can get through today's episode with no problems because, if you don't know, on Monday I got Invisalign and I'm supposed to wear Invisalign for 22 hours a day, which is a lot.
It's insane.
I'm really only supposed to take them out when I'm eating or drinking, but I did take them out to record this episode, which is I probably shouldn't, but I have the worst lisp with the men and even without them I have a lisp.
But my other issue is with Invisalign.
You have these really sharp attachments on your teeth and they scrape against my mouth and I feel like a shark and it's just.
