📋 Summary

The Stone Horse: A Tale of Perseverance and Loyalty

Introduction: The Power of Perseverance

Inspired by an ancient Chinese proverb, the story of The Stone Horse serves as a poignant reminder that "no matter how difficult or daunting a task may seem, it's amazing what we can achieve when we keep going and persevere continuously." This narrative, featured in a live recording of the Circle Round podcast, explores themes of artistic integrity, the bond between parent and child, and the triumph of kindness over arrogance.

The Sculptor and the Arrogant Official

In a quaint town near the mountains, a talented sculptor lived with his daughter, Ruby. He was renowned for creating statues that were "magnificent, exquisite, stunning, and sublime." His life took a turn when a new town officer arrived, demanding a statue of himself riding a horse. The officer, characterized by his desire to "lay down the law" and "run the show," set an unreasonable two-week deadline, threatening to banish the sculptor if he failed. Despite the pressure, the sculptor and Ruby worked tirelessly, hammering, chiseling, and polishing to complete the commission.

Betrayal and the Miracle of Tears

Upon delivery, the officer found the statue unsatisfactory, claiming that while the horse was a "glorious steed," he himself looked "pathetic" compared to it. In a fit of spite, he shattered the statue of himself, leaving the stone horse intact, and exiled the sculptor. Left in an abandoned workshop, a heartbroken Ruby embraced the stone horse. Her tears brought the statue to life, revealing a loyal companion who possessed the magical ability to rescue her father from his banishment in a distant village. The horse proved that even the seemingly impossible is achievable through dedication and a pure heart.

The Downfall of the Greedy Official

The officer, upon discovering the living stone horse, saw only an opportunity for profit, hoping to "sell it and live like a king." He forced Ruby to surrender the creature. However, the horse, demonstrating wisdom and courage, agreed to go with the officer only to teach him a final lesson. Once the officer climbed onto its back, the horse reverted to its stone form, causing both to plummet into a deep lake. The officer, humiliated and defeated, fled the town forever, while the horse remained in the depths, living on in the hearts of Ruby and her father.

Conclusion: An Enduring Legacy

Years later, after the sculptor passed away, an adult Ruby returned to the lake. Her grief once again summoned her magical companion, proving that the bonds formed through true friendship and perseverance never truly fade. The story concludes with the horse inviting Ruby on a "little adventure," symbolizing that the spirit of courage and the rewards of hard work remain constant throughout life’s journey. As the podcast suggests, true strength lies not in the authority to "lay down the law," but in the character and resilience we bring to our lives and relationships.
