What's your favorite word in English?
Today's episode is all about beautiful words.
And the first word is cerulean.
The color of the sky is cerulean blue, which is a deep blue.
So I am walking along the shore where the ocean meets the sand.
And behind me is the ocean.
The tide is moving in and out.
And we say to ebb and flow.
Ebb and flow means the repeated pattern of coming and going.
So we are taking a stroll along the shore.
What's the plan for today?
We are going to see the Dragon Bridge Fire Show.
Very excited.
How do you feel, Chang?
Excited.
Chang's excited too.
We are walking on the sand.
This is all sand and these are grains of sand.
Tiny pieces of sand are called grains of sand.
Chang is taking a seat and she's chilling out while I come up here and teach you guys some English.
This bad boy is a parasol.
Parasol or an umbrella.
These things are called sunbeds.
These things, these colorful things are called beanbags.
You can sit down in the beanbag.
These things are called fairy lights, but they are not lit.
They're not lit up, they are off.
When they're turned on, they look pretty.
Well, I think I can see some fairy lights actually.
So let's go find them.
These are fairy lights.
Now, let's go find Chang.
There she is.
And she's getting up.
Alright, let's continue.
Shall we rest?
Yeah.
So beautiful at this time.
Yeah, I love the sunset.
What's another word for sunset?
Hmm, another word for sunset.
Ooh, I've got a really good one.
Let me go teach the guys.
So right now the time is called golden hour, which is that beautiful golden time just before sunset and just after sunrise.
It's where the light is warm and glowing.
Beautiful.
So we've been walking for a little while now and the sun has already set.
The time after sunset is called twilight.
The space between sunset and dark.
The end of twilight is called dusk.
Another beautiful word.
The opposite of dusk is what?
Three, two, one.
Dawn.
Dawn is the time before sunrise on a morning.
The next word is silhouette.
Mine and Chang's bodies are silhouetted against the light.
Right guys, look at this.
We've been blessed tonight because you can see a full moon, and one of my favorite words in the english language is a selenophile.
A selenophile means somebody who loves the moon.
Taking a short break.
Right now we are walking along promenade.
Promenade is a walkway that's beside the beach.
It runs parallel to the beach above my head.
These are called pin wheels pinwheels the pinwheels spin up.
Here we have some lanterns.
These are lanterns.
All right, keep moving.
Right now we're gonna walk off the promenade and towards the city because I'm feeling a little bit peckish.
Peckish means slightly hungry.
As you can hear the banh bao.
Banh bao!
These are the traffic lights.
Right now they are on red.
We are gonna cross the road, go get some food.
We have just crossed with Edward Crossing.
Careful.
Thank you.
That car almost hit me, trying to save my life.
Thank you.
And let's find some food.
Again, when you're slightly hungry, you can say, I'm feeling peckish.
It's a fantastic word.
And the rain has just started as well, so I'm going to hide the camera.
Well, in typical Vietnam fashion, the rain has just started falling.
Remember the word from my English vlog.
When it's raining lightly, we say it's spitting.
When it's raining heavily, we say it's pouring it down, it's throwing it down, it's bucketing it down or the rude one, it's pissing it down.
And we are hiding under an umbrella, hiding from the rain, so the camera doesn't get wet.
So you guys don't get wet.
Ah, and a nice man is bringing us some chairs.
Come on, thank you man.
Oh, look at this chair.
This, this is not made for me.
While we're here, i want to actually teach him.
I've got, i've got a little prop, i think.
So yeah, here we go.
All right oh, you can hear the rain coming down.
It's all cozy taking out my favorite book.
Now, why am i taking out my favorite book, you asked.
Well, I want to teach you guys a word, and the word is bibliophile.
A bibliophile is a lover of books, just like a selenophile is a lover of the moon.
And right now, absolutely hammering down, and let's hope we don't get wet under here.
Here, you can see the tiny drops of rain falling off the umbrella.
These are the car's headlights.
These are the headlights.
All right, now we call this a downpour.
It's pouring down.
The rain is absolutely pouring down.
Wow, that is loud.
I think this is a thunderstorm.
Look at that.
You can see the water splashing on the road, so the rain has died down.
Now it's settled down.
It was pouring down, now it's just spitting.
So let's continue learning about the book.
This is the front cover.
This is the back cover.
This part of the book is called the spine, just like the spine in your back.
This is the inside cover.
Inside the book we have pages and a verb we can use is to turn the page or to flick through the pages.
I'm flicking through the pages.
That's about it for the book.
Now, Chang is peckish.
Me too.
We're both peckish.
We're going to finally get our little snack.
I think we'll get some mango sticky rice.
And ice cream.
And ice cream.
Attach my mic so you guys can hear me.
Mango sticky rice.
Two?
Yeah, two.
So up here is the menu.
And we are choosing what we want to eat.
49,000 Vietnam dong.
This is a beer tap.
All right, the food has arrived.
We've got our mud.
Cheers.
Mud.
Mud.
See, that's a bit cold on my lips.
What do I do in this situation?
I tear off the paper and take out my plastic straw.
You suck up the liquid with a straw.
Much better.
No more cold lips.
Thank you.
I've got a small plastic spoon.
And I'm pouring the coconut milk on the mango sticky rice.
That's all essential.
Is it a Thai dessert?
Yes.
Mango sticky rice.
Very popular one.
Yeah, they're putting down the umbrella because the rain has stopped.
That was nice but um, i'm still not quite satisfied.
So i want some ice cream.
She's found it.
Let's choose definitely biscutino, not chocolate sorbet, because that's weird.
Um, maybe caramel.
Pistachio is nice, like the ones always, i want to get something different.
Yeah, that's good, let's get caramel.
Okay, let's order over there.
So, while Chang orders, let's learn what this is.
This is a drinks fridge.
In the drinks fridge, on each shelf, we have cans of drinks.
Above my head, that is a fan to keep us cool.
Here are all the flavours of ice cream.
Right now, he is scooping the ice cream and putting it in the tub.
Beautiful job, thank you.
Yeah, there's caramel too.
Okay, how does it taste?
It's sumptuous.
Sumptuous, wow, what does that mean?
It means rich and luxurious.
That's the next word.
That's the next word, sumptuous.
You want some?
It's quite hard to hold the camera and my tub of ice cream.
Chiang is taking the tub.
You have to feed me the ice cream.
It's hard to feed you when they have to.
Right, so we've encountered a predicament here.
A predicament is a slight problem.
I'm holding the camera.
Chiang is holding two tubs of ice cream.
However, we both want to eat the ice cream.
You get to eat it.
I get no ice cream.
She gets it all.
Anyway, we're going to walk to the city side now.
Show you guys the Dragon Bridge before it gets really busy before the fire show tonight.
So let's walk there and show you guys some more beautiful scenery, the nightlife of Da Nang and obviously, learn some English.
You know.
Chang, I'm hungry again.
Again?
Cheers.
I'm sipping apricot wine from a small glass.
We call this a shot glass.
These are skewers with king oyster mushrooms on and asparagus on.
This is a wedge of lime, and you would squeeze the lime on top.
This stuff is pickled ginger.
These are chopsticks.
Picking up the salmon sashimi.
Oh, no, let's add some wasabi.
Pop that in my gob.
If you close your eyes, it tastes better.
I've opened up my banking app and now I am paying the bill.
We call this the bill.
I need to scan the QR code.
This is the QR code.
The fans making my hair crazy.
I've just paid the bill via a QR code through my banking app.
And now we're gonna go take a taxi to the Dragon Bridge to see the fire show.
All right, taxi is here to the Dragon Bridge.
So look at these guys.
We have our shadows.
These are our shadows.
Now they are fading.
We're close to the dragon bridge, but one stop.
This is a vending machine where you buy drinks.
Well, your drinks come out here, Alright onwards.
Okay, now we're crossing the road.
Carefully.
So again guys, crossing the zebra crossing.
Taught you this in the last video.
If you haven't seen it, I'll link it on the screen right now.
This is a staircase.
Chang is walking up the staircase.
This to the side of the staircase is the rail.
This is the handrail.
Chang is walking up.
I am walking up.
It's very lively around here because obviously there's a fire show tonight so everyone's buzzing.
All right so the dragon's head is behind me and if I spin around here we've got the river.
In the distance there are boats.
They are cruise boats and on those boats you can have a meal, have some drinks chill, chat with your friends.
Maybe in a future episode we're gonna get on one of those.
So now we're about halfway across the Dragon Bridge and if I turn around you can see the light reflecting off the water from the boat.
Light slightly moves and twinkles and the next beautiful word is shimmer.
That light is shimmering, it means that it's moving slightly on the surface of the water.
Over there way in the distance is the next bridge and behind that bridge you can see the wheel.
There is a big wheel that you can ride.
On my left, the traffic is coming past me.
You might say it's zooming past if you want to be a bit more poetic.
I love this bridge.
So I've lived in Da Nang for two and a half years now and I'm so happy that I moved here.
It was probably the best decision I ever made.
It was quite a scary decision but I'm glad I did it because I mean it's unreal.
The city is one of the coolest places in the world.
Very soon.
It's going to get quite busy around here and we're going to go down to find a spot, get set up so we can show you guys how awesome the flames are.
Peace.
Just bought a smoked ice cream.
It's durian flavour.
Sick.
It's 10 to 9, we're very close to the fire show and there's loads of stuff going on around me.
There's someone selling bambo, there's a lady selling balloons over there, there are thousands and thousands of people around.
The dragon is about to breathe some fire, so let's go see.
There we go.
Flame's about to come.
There we go, and the final word of the day is mesmerizing, which means to capture your complete attention, as if by magic.
Hey, look at that.
Wow, you're getting soaked.
Yeah, you're about to get a second drench.
Everyone is leaving.
The dragon has breathed its fire, spat out its water.
Tell me in the comments, what is your favorite word in the English language?
And can you use it in a sentence?
Thank you for watching.
