📋 Summary

A Shift in Travel Style

In this episode, the host recounts his recent trip to Nuevo Vallarta, a major tourist destination in the state of Nayarit, Mexico. While the host is accustomed to more modest travel—typically opting for "cheap Airbnbs"—this particular trip was a "gift" from his aunt, allowing him to experience the "luxurious style of travel" associated with staying at a resort. Despite the comfort, he notes that he generally "can't afford" such stays, and he found the dining options within the resort to be "out of my price range," leading him and his family to seek meals elsewhere.

The Journey: Scenic yet Challenging

The road trip to the coast involved a five-hour drive. Although geographically close to his home, the route is characterized by "windy roads" that snake through the landscape, making the journey time-consuming. Despite the duration, the host enjoyed the drive, noting that the region is currently "lush" and "green" due to the recent rainy season. He particularly enjoyed "taking in the scenery" as the landscape transitioned into a dense, tropical-like forest. However, he expressed frustration with the "tolls" required to use the highways, noting that these costs add up significantly during a long drive and that some roads are not "well-maintained."

Climate and Atmosphere

The host describes the weather in Nuevo Vallarta as "very hot and humid." He explains that the "heaviness in the air" is constant, which makes "AC" (air conditioning) an essential feature of all indoor spaces. While he appreciates sunny weather, he admits that he prefers a "dry heat" over the tropical humidity he experienced during this trip. Despite the heat, he found the ocean water temperature to be "awesome," comparing it to "being in a bathtub."

Family Fun and Excursions

A significant portion of the trip was spent in the resort's pool, which provided a great environment for his one-year-old son. While the host admits he is "not a big pool person," he found the experience relaxing and rewarding to watch his son play. The family also took two notable day trips:

  • Sayulita: A "magic town" famous for its surfing culture. The host enjoyed watching skilled surfers ride the waves and appreciated the town’s "charming" atmosphere, noting that it is a popular destination for foreigners.
  • Crocodile Sanctuary: A "unique experience" where they observed both baby and large crocodiles. The host found it fascinating, though it proved to be a slightly "scary" experience for his wife.

Final Verdict

While the host appreciated the opportunity to relax, read his Kindle, and spend quality time with his family, he maintains that resort-style vacations are not his preferred mode of travel. He concludes that while he enjoyed the experience, he likely won't take another trip of this nature for quite some time, as it does not align with his usual, more independent style of traveling.

I hope you're all doing well today.
I just recently came back from a trip and that's actually going to be the topic of this episode.
My recent trip to Nuevo Vallarta, and which is a beach destination here in Mexico, not too far from where I live.
So I'm happy to talk about that today, and this trip is still fresh in my mind, so I'll be able to remember everything that I did more easily than if it had happened many months ago.
