Easy English Expression, rehashed.
Hello, everybody.
My name is Coach Shane, and welcome to Easy English Expressions.
Come on, let's master English coach shane here.
Time for another e-cubed expression, number 314.
This is a serious expression.
Yeah boy, i like this expression.
Uh, i hope you never have to use it, but you might have to and you might hear it.
So check it out.
Let's go back in time.
Today's expression is a good one.
It's a little bit tricky, so listen carefully.
To stoop so low as to do something.
Okay, so let me break it into pieces.
To stoop low.
S-T-O-O-P-L-O-W.
To stoop low.
Now you can use your dictionary, but what this expression means in daily English is to do something evil to somebody, to do something not nice to somebody, and to do it in like a secret way.
So let's say you have a brother or a sister, and your brother made you really angry.
He did something silly, but he made you really angry.
And your brother is drinking Coca-Cola.
Well, when he's not looking in his Coca-Cola, you put more sugar or you put some salt in there.
That way you have destroyed his Coca-Cola.
That is to stoop low.
That's to do something really mean to somebody when they don't even know it.
You are a better person than that.
You don't have to do evil things like that.
Just ignore your brother.
But most of us in those situations, sometimes we do stoop low.
One of my friends gave his brother a gift, a towel.
It was a sports towel.
It was a cool football towel.
Well, his brother used the towel as a butt cushion at his desk.
And my friend was very angry.
So when his brother wasn't looking, he took the towel, his gift, and threw it away.
That is Stooping low.
Now today's expression was not just stoop low, but to stoop so low as to.
So to stoop low is bad.
To stoop so low... is really bad.
It's really horrible.
It's really doing something really, really evil.
So instead of salt or sugar in your brother's Coca-Cola I don't know maybe vinegar or maybe, oh no, maybe to spit in his Coke.
Oh, that's so terrible.
Yeah, it happens.
That is stooping really low.
That's not only mean.
That's disgusting and mean.
That's horrible.
Oh, yeah.
To stoop so low as to spit in your brother's Coca-Cola.
Let's check out a dialogue.
Why is John so mad at you?
Because I went to dinner with Glenda.
His girlfriend?
I can't believe you'd stoop so low.
She's pretty.
Oh, my God.
That's so bad.
You know, being too nice to somebody's girlfriend is low.
Being interested and attracted to somebody's girlfriend is low.
But to actually take the person to dinner, that is so low.
I cannot believe you are so low as to date your friend's girlfriend.
That is so bad.
That's not just evil.
That's super evil.
And that's the idea.
Yeah, today's expression is mean.
But can you think of an example when you were not only low, but so low?
Or maybe somebody you know did something not just low, but so low.
Not just evil, but super evil.
Leave us a message.
We want to know.
We want to know about these evil things.
I'll tell you how to contact me after you listen to the dialogue two more times.
Be sure to practice the dialogue with a friend, okay?
Here you go.
Why is John so mad at you?
Because I went to dinner with Glenda.
His girlfriend?
I can't believe you'd stoop so low.
She's pretty.
Why is John so mad at you?
Because I went to dinner with Glenda.
His girlfriend?
I can't believe you'd stoop so low.
She's pretty.
Thanks so much for listening.
