Reflecting on a Year of Relocation: Growth, Challenges, and New Beginnings

Moving to a new country is a transformative experience, yet it is rarely the seamless journey one might imagine. After relocating from Tel Aviv to Barcelona in early 2024, I have spent the past year navigating the complex, often overwhelming "waves of difficulty and ease" that accompany such a life-altering decision. As I look back on this year, I find it essential to share the "behind the scenes" of this journey—not just to provide updates, but to offer a realistic look at the process of growth and adaptation.

The Reality of Relocation: Waves and Phases

I often describe the relocation process as climbing a mountain. Some days are sunny and effortless, while others are met with rain, wind, and the heavy burden of responsibility. Initially, I found myself in "survival mode," obsessively trying to "find an apartment" and "get children to school." Once the basic systems were in place, the challenge shifted toward the emotional labor of leaving one's home country and the complex task of "integrating into a new community."

I learned that growth is rarely linear. Each time I felt I had "figured out" a challenge, a new, more complex one emerged. This is not a cause for despair, but rather a testament to the fact that we are constantly preparing for the next stage of our evolution.

Core Challenges: Family, Business, and Systems

1. Navigating Family Well-being

My primary mission was to contain the experiences of my family. I often acted as an emotional "reflection" of my daughters; when they were anxious or struggling, I felt it deeply. Learning to hold space for their negative emotions while maintaining my own equilibrium was, and remains, my biggest hurdle.

2. Recalibrating the Business

Managing a business while setting up a new life was incredibly taxing. I felt "stuck" with outdated systems and had to invest in "coaching" and "masterminds" to restructure my company. While 2024 was not a year of explosive growth, it was a vital year of building the necessary "infrastructure" for future success.

3. Creating New Foundations

Back home, we take our systems for granted. In a new country, you must "rediscover" everything—from finding a doctor to understanding local holidays. It took me 10 months just to visit a doctor, a delay caused by the irrational fear of the unknown. I have learned to honor the time these tasks take and to stop being frustrated by my own lack of immediate expertise.

4. The Language Barrier

My progress in Spanish has been a source of disappointment, but I have learned to offer myself "grace." There is a painful "gap" between where I want to be and where I am. I now recognize that language acquisition requires daily, intentional "implementation," and I am committed to making this a priority in 2025.

Key Lessons and Intentions for 2025

Two profound lessons defined my year:

  • Control vs. Response: I realized I have no control over external outcomes, only my "thoughts and actions." Letting go of the need to plan every detail was a difficult but necessary lesson.
  • The Power of Presence: My brain, often trapped in an "ADHD-like experience" of constant planning, frequently missed the present moment. I am now working on being "mentally present" to fully engage with my reality.

As I set my intentions for 2025, I am seeking "more ease"—the ability to achieve results with less friction—and "innovation" in both my personal teaching methods and business. While I may not belong to this city fully yet, I have built a foundation that makes Barcelona feel like my own. I invite you to set your own intention for the year ahead, as we all continue to navigate the beautiful, messy process of growth.

So if you're new to my podcast or channel, just to give you a quick update, at the beginning of 2024, in fact, it was January 4th, where I moved to Barcelona from Tel Aviv, Israel with my family.

I talked about the behind the scenes of my life, I talked about what it feels like to move to a new country, face a new culture, my language learning experience And I think it was around June where I stopped recording episodes because things got really busy and we had the summer and we were traveling
