It is so great to see you both.
Thank you for coming to do the show.
I appreciate this.
How long have you guys known each other?
Man.
I want to say many years.
Okay.
We've known each other well for like the last five or six years.
Yeah, we met ages ago.
You were in a movie that I was in.
That's right.
In a tiny little scene.
The way Chris named the movie.
It's called... Going?
It's called Going the Distance.
Yes!
Yes!
I was cut out of the movie.
I did one scene.
I was on an airplane next to your darling wife, I believe.
Yes, with Mary Elizabeth, yeah.
And she and I were doing a scene together, And then I kind of forgot about it.
I never saw myself in the movie.
I was very excited.
Got the team gathered around for going the distance.
And I was like, I've been cut out of this movie.
I was like, he's a talented kid, but he's not going to make it.
Yeah.
You got to make him earn it, Charlie.
But then we became closer friends playing golf together.
We became golf buddies.
And what is it like when you play golf together?
Is it a serious game?
No, it's a very casual game.
It's pretty casual.
He's very good.
He's a much better golfer than I am.
He's a stick.
You know, like, he really is.
He bombs the long way.
For two bad golfers, maybe I'm the better bad golfer.
You know, I think you're... Look, we take it pretty seriously.
We brought a photo of us playing golf.
And it's pretty serious.
This is just a normal day.
You take it serious.
You really do.
Here you guys are golfing.
That's amazing.
I can see how serious you take it.
Ha, ha, ha.
Yeah.
It's funny.
It's funny.
We sent that photo because we're promoting the Mario Brothers movie.
Yeah, it's a representative film.
It's actually a joke.
Oh, I didn't know.
I didn't really know.
That's not really what we wear.
But we do play a lot.
Actually, you were out in California sometimes.
And you know that there's that golf course next to Universal?
I love that.
I always wondered about that.
You play there?
Yeah, we play there sometimes.
And it's so fun because Universal has, you know, theme park rides and one of the rides is the Super Mario Brothers ride, so we can be out golfing and hit a good shot or hit a bad shot.
I want to say to the people who are playing, it's like, oh, sorry, I got distracted.
Yeah, that's kind of our ride.
Just looking at our ride.
Which we did bring a real photo of that.
Oh, you did?
Oh, here's a picture of Charlie and Chris golfing.
And there you go.
That's much better.
You can see the ride in the back.
You're right.
That's a great photo.
Thank you.
No filters.
No, not one?
No, we both look really young.
I don't wear white pants anymore, though.
Can I ask you, Chris, this is a thing going around.
I don't know why it's going around.
I think I know the answer.
Before we get into Mario Brothers, the movie, am I saying it right?
Is it Mario or is it Mario Brother?
Ooh.
Now, I love to come to New York to tell people how to pronounce things. favorite hobbyist.
Hey, excuse me.
Hey, hey, hey.
Don't tell me what to do with you.
But I can confirm, as the guy, it's Mario.
It's Mario.
Thank you.
It is Mario.
But don't feel bad if you have used Mario.
A lot of people do that.
In fact, Ben Safdie, who plays one of the characters, who voices Bowser Jr.
He's in the movie.
He's in the movie.
Yeah, he's in the movie.
Was saying Mario during the press we were doing and they kept stopping him being like you can't say Mario.
Physically, I'm not sure he can say Mario.
Yeah, he doesn't know how.
He's a very East Coast guy.
I'm so, I cannot wait for this film.
It's so good.
The first one made over a billion dollars, by the way.
Oh, my gosh.
It was the first, actually, yeah.
It was the first animated movie to make a trillion dollars.
Yeah, yeah.
Well, coins, the little power-up coins.
Oh, yeah, the power coins.
I was like, wow, I didn't know that.
They made a lot of them.
A good trillion, I think it was.
The Super Mario Galaxy movie comes out April 1st.
Yes.
I think it's going to be even bigger.
It's unbelievable.
I think it could be.
It's really great.
It's one of these movies that we have both recently seen it and it's just really astounding what they can do with animated movies now.
It's insane.
And there's twists and surprises and fun stuff.
I don't want to ruin anything, but I got to see it last night.
It's unbelievable.
Like you said, it doesn't even feel like it's the next level.
It's illumination, it's Universal, it's Nintendo, all coming together, all great people, all creative people and great voices.
It's number two, so it's level two.
You've leveled up.
Oh, yeah, that's good.
Yes, I can see that.
Charlie, when you're doing this to get into character of Luigi, is there a thing that you have to do?
There's a funny thing that I do.
Well, they'll play your voice back to you in the way that you've recorded it.
It's always great hearing this voice.
But the way I get into the character is to make myself more and more terrified.
So I'll go like, Mario.
I'm like, that's not quite right.
And then I'll do like.
-♪ Mario!
-♪ Oh, that sounds like the guy.
He's terrifying.
Yeah, that's perfect.
Chris, the last time you were here, we learned that you draw very well, by the way.
Oh, thank you.
Thank you.
We played that game.
It was like a Pictionary type of game, and you crushed it.
I was like, dude, do you really know how to draw?
I love to draw, yeah.
You know, we grew up poor, and that was one of the few things we could afford was a pencil.
Yes.
And so we had a stack of paper we got at like a swap meet and it was like taller than me and some pencils, and that was what we did, man.
We drew.
I thought it'd be kind of interesting if you maybe drew a sketch of Mario or what you think Mario looks like.
And then, Charlie, you can draw a sketch of Luigi.
And there's a green marker there for you there.
And then after 20 seconds, we can see what you came up with.
You have 20 seconds to draw what you think.
I don't really draw, so I'm not even sure which hand to use.
Hand to use.
We'll see.
I'll try both.
Yeah, try both.
Okay.
Ready, set, draw.
Okay, here we go.
I'm not gonna look.
I didn't want any hints.
That's it.
Time is out.
Chris, let's see your drawing of Mario.
Hey, whoa.
That's what I'm talking about.
20 seconds.
That's amazing.
Charlie, let's see your Luigi.
That's pretty good.
That's pretty good.
Hey!
That's pretty good.
That's pretty good.
Oh, oh.
Give me the tuba.
Uh, uh, uh.
Guys, I want to say fans are freaking out that you're here on the show, and I'm happy you're here.
There's a lot of fan theories out there about what may or may not happen in the Super Mario Galaxy.
And I was just wondering if you could put those theories to rest and play a fun game, okay?
I have these buttons here, okay?
Let's do it.
I'm ready.
Ooh.
Yeah, so that is... Red is if it's not true.
And the block, the question block, will be that it's true.
So you press... True, false.
That's correct.
Yeah, so...
I'll say it.
Rapid fire.
You can only speak the truth, and I speak the false.
No, no, no.
You both share hands.
Okay, all right, all right.
Got it.
Should we lock fingers?
Let's go.
We're ready to do this.
Brothers.
You guys got this.
You are brothers.
All right, here we go.
A third Mario brother makes an appearance in the movie.
Wow, okay.
Ooh.
We see Brooklyn again in this movie.
Oh, okay.
Wario and Waluigi make an appearance.
One, two, three.
Really?
Some of the movie is presented in 8-bit animation.
Ooh.
A non-Mario character will appear in this movie.
I think we can say that.
We can't say who, but we can.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Don't look.
Whoa!
All right, that's good.
That's good.
Fantastic.
That was great.
Guys, I want to show everyone a clip.
Here's a look at the Super Mario Galaxy movie.
Enjoy.
You're here!
Now, where's the troubled pirate?
Yeah!
Come on.
Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, everybody.
The Super Mario Galaxy movie is in theaters April 1st.
More with Chris and Charlie after the break.
We'll do something fun.
Stick around.
Come on back.
