📋 Summary

The Last-Minute Concert Triumph

After a disappointing start in the previous episode, where Andrew failed to secure tickets for the music festival in Seoul, he experienced a stroke of luck. Remembering that tickets for sold-out events in Korea often reappear due to cancellations, he checked the ticketing app one last time. Miraculously, he secured two tickets to see his favorite band, My Bloody Valentine, just a day before the event. This last-minute success turned a stressful situation into an exciting spontaneous outing.

Festival Logistics and Atmosphere

The festival was held near Incheon International Airport. Despite the concerns about the tail end of the "Korean rainy season," the couple enjoyed perfect weather with "blue clear skies." Andrew noted that the event was "immaculately organized." The venue utilized a unique setup with two stages side-by-side, allowing crews to prepare the next act while the current one performed, minimizing downtime to just five minutes.

To ensure a good viewing position for the headliners, Andrew and his wife employed a strategy of sneaking into the crowd while the opening act, a Japanese DJ named Yosuke Yukimatsu, was performing. Although they arrived late, missing many food options, they were able to enjoy some "hot dogs," which Andrew associates with summer in Canada.

The My Bloody Valentine Experience

While Andrew was thrilled to see the band, the performance was a mixed bag. He noted that the "mixing wasn't that great," specifically that the "vocals were really, really low" and the "bass and the vocals were sort of lost in the mix." Despite these technical issues, Andrew remained a dedicated fan.

He also commented on the band's stage presence—or lack thereof. Known for being "artsy fartsy" and serious musicians, the band did not interact with the audience, and they even had a contractual agreement preventing the venue from showing them on the big screens. Andrew admitted this "rubbed me the wrong way," noting that while he respects their artistry, the lack of engagement felt like a "bummer" given the high cost of tickets. Regardless, he rated the concert an 8 out of 10 for the sheer joy of hearing the music live.

The Journey Home

Leaving the festival proved challenging due to the subway stopping at 10:30 p.m. To avoid being stranded, the couple left slightly early during the band's signature "wall of noise"—a 20-minute feedback-heavy finale. They caught an airport bus, which allowed them to return to Seoul comfortably. The night concluded with a hearty bowl of Gamjatang (pork bone soup) and a midnight walk along the riverside, offering Andrew a rare glimpse into the vibrant late-night atmosphere of Seoul’s youth and university students.

Reflecting on the experience, Andrew concluded that he had been wrong to assume he was "done with this stage of my life." The festival proved that he could still enjoy such events, and he plans to keep an open mind for future musical performances.
