  • Land-Sea Coordination: Coastal cities like Sanya have implemented "marine sanitation programs," utilizing "river chiefs and lake chiefs" to protect water quality and engaging the public through environmental education centers to prevent plastic from entering the ocean.

Challenges and the Path Forward

Experts point to the "high cumulative volumes of stored solid waste" and the need to improve hazardous waste disposal, which still falls short of the national 10% landfill target.
