English with Neil Learn English Podcast This episode is about breakfast.
The first meal of the day.
I remember when I was a little kid, my teacher used to always say breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
So don't skip breakfast.
Always eat breakfast.
I remember she used to always say that, so that always stuck with me.
Now that i'm an adult, i don't know if breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but i think it is important, Especially for kids.
I always make breakfast for my kids in the morning because kids have to learn a lot of things at school.
They're learning all day for 6 or 7 hours and so I think they need that energy.
For studying, for learning.
So I think for kids, breakfast is very important.
But what do you think?
So I wanted to tell you about my breakfast routine.
Talk about some things that I find interesting about breakfast.
So here we go.
In the morning, when I wake up, I wake up around 6 45, use the bathroom.
Then I start making breakfast for my kids.
So usually my kids eat leftovers.
So leftovers is food from the night before.
So they usually eat soup or some type of light foods from the night before.
So this morning they had some soup from last night.
So they usually have soup and rice and some type of fruits in the morning.
That's their, That's their breakfast leftovers, which is usually soup, fruits and maybe some rice.
For myself, I've been eating the same breakfast for the past 10 years.
When I was in America, my breakfast was not the healthiest.
So I had a weird schedule when I was back home.
I had to wake up at 430 in the morning to go to work because I work very early mornings.
So usually I would stop by.
The gas station.
In America the gas stations usually have a store, some type of convenience store, in the gas station.
So I would go to the gas station store and usually buy some snacks, maybe a sandwich, sometimes some donuts, sometimes some chips.
So it wasn't the healthiest breakfast and the reason is because I didn't have time to make breakfast.
When I woke up every morning, I was so tired, so I just did the easy thing and bought breakfast from the gas station.
Now that I think about it, I think that's why I was a little overweight.
I wasn't fat, but I was a little overweight because I wasn't eating a healthy breakfast.
But since I've been in Japan for the last 11 years, I've been eating a healthy breakfast.
So my breakfast every single morning is a smoothie and I put.
Various things in my smoothie.
So the first thing I put is bananas.
Next, blueberries, plain yogurt, oatmeal, some protein, a raw egg and soy milk.
And the reason I do that is because it's healthy, it's good, and it keeps me full until lunchtime.
So I've been eating this breakfast for the past 11 years and I haven't had any problems with it.
And I'm probably going to continue.
To have this breakfast for years to come.
So my breakfast is just a breakfast smoothie, And so I was thinking about My breakfast.
I usually finish my breakfast Because I drink my breakfast In about 10 minutes.
It's pretty fast And I love it, But sometimes I would just like to have a home cooked breakfast, a traditional American breakfast.
And the traditional American breakfast is not the healthiest.
It's really not healthy.
But a traditional American breakfast is pancakes, some type of meat like bacon or sausage, and then we have eggs you can have scrambled eggs or fried eggs and then we usually have maybe some toast with jam and butter.
On the side we might have orange juice or coffee.
That's a traditional American breakfast.
I would like to have that sometimes.
They sell that at McDonald's.
If you go to McDonald's and you order something traditional From the breakfast menu, You'll find pancakes Bacon Sausages, Things like that Not the healthiest, But very, very delicious.
So the other day I was I was teaching a lesson here at my school and we were doing a lesson on food and I ran across this YouTube video called what does the world eat for breakfast.
If you want to check it out, go to youtube and type in what does the world eat for breakfast And the channel is.
It's a weird name.
It's as a s slash is as is.
And the video just shows breakfast from different parts of the world.
And it was pretty interesting.
It was really interesting to see. what other countries eat for breakfast.
This is mostly traditional breakfast.
I know everyone's breakfast does not look like that.
But if you're curious, if you're just curious to know about what everyone around the world eats, check out that video.
It's pretty interesting.
I really wanted to try this breakfast from i think it was somewhere in africa, and i i don't know how to pronounce the.
The food was like uji.
I'm sorry I'm probably pronouncing it wrong, but it was some type of oatmeal.
And I think when I researched it, it was from a plant.
So they grind the plant and they eat that.
They might add some seasoning or some sugar to that.
I'm not sure, but that looked pretty good.
Also breakfast from the Middle East.
That breakfast looked pretty good.
And there were just other breakfasts.
I think from Mexico, that breakfast looked pretty good.
So it was interesting to see.
So check out that video on YouTube.
It's called What Does the World Eat for Breakfast?
I think you'll find that very interesting.
So I have a question.
I always like to leave you guys with a question in every episode.
My question for you is what do you eat for breakfast?
What do you eat for breakfast in your country?
So for me, like I said, I eat a smoothie or, excuse me, I drink a smoothie every morning for breakfast.
But how about you?
What do you eat for breakfast?
And is your breakfast big?
Do you have a big breakfast or do you have a light breakfast?
