And we begin with Chunk the Champ.
The grizzled veteran was crowned Fat Bear Week winner after what Katmai National Park in Alaska says was a record-breaking week of public voting.
More than 15 million people weighed in on the competition, which was designed 11 years ago to create public awareness about the bears and their ecosystem.
32-chunk earned 96350 votes, despite suffering most of the season from a broken jaw which some feared would hamper his ability to fish and fatten up.
But he persevered and plumped, beating runner-up Bear 856 by more than 30,000 votes.
Chunk was described in The Guardian as the most dominant brown bear on the river and captivated voters who watched him gain girth beyond what anybody could have possibly imagined with that injury.
The beloved Blue Angels may be grounded during San Francisco's Fleet Week if the US government remains offline due to the government shutdown.
But our friends to the north may help save the day.
As of this recording, Republicans and Democrats in Congress remain stuck in a stalemate that is impacting federal workers, including the Navy's aerial aces, who are set to perform starting Sunday.

New zealand, its birds and the voters there have spoken.
In the country's hotly contested bird of the year, contest carry area, which is the indigenous maori name for the new zealand, falcon soared to the top of the crowded, feathered field, beating out 72 other birds.
The annual poll run by conservation group forest and bird is taken very seriously by new zealanders who love their birds, even calling themselves kiwis.
According to NBC News, more than 75000 people in the country of 5 million cast ballots this year, and avian enthusiasts stumped for their favorite flyers with meme battles, poster campaigns and dance routines performed in bird costumes.
One conservation official estimates about 5000 to 8000 caryarias exist in the wild, but says it's hard to know exactly, as it's a mysterious bird, cryptic and often well-hidden.
