The narrative begins with a scene of distress at the Flower and Fruit Mountain. Sun Wukong, the legendary monkey king, returns to find his subjects in a state of terror. The gibbon, acting as a spokesperson for the traumatized community, recounts a harrowing tale of a "demon" who "attacked us" and "kidnapped many of us." This intruder, identified as the "Demon of Chaos," had successfully pillaged their resources and abducted their kin. Despite the gibbon’s warning that the entity was "too powerful," Wukong remains undeterred. Confident in the skills he "learned from a sage," Wukong asserts his newfound status, declaring, "I am now as powerful as a god," and prepares to confront the threat head-on.
Wukong tracks the threat to a "gloomy mountain" shrouded in "dark clouds." Upon arrival, he encounters guards practicing sword fighting at the entrance of a cave. Wukong’s bold declaration of his identity—the "king of the fruit and flower mountain"—sends the guards into a panic. Inside, the Demon of Chaos, initially dismissive, realizes that the monkey king has returned from his quest to find a sage. The demon, arrogant and relying on his physical stature, dismisses Wukong as "just a little monkey." However, Wukong counters this by stating, "I am small, but I am more powerful than you can imagine."
The ensuing battle serves as the climax of the story. While the demon relies on conventional weaponry like his "sword," Wukong utilizes his supernatural abilities. After dodging the demon’s initial attack, Wukong employs a signature technique: he pulls out a "handful of his own hair" and blows on it. This action manifests the "Body Beyond the Body" magic spell, creating a legion of fake monkeys that overwhelm the demon. The demon is swiftly "destroyed" by the coordinated assault of the clones. Wukong then liberates the kidnapped monkeys and apes, who greet him with cries of "Your Majesty!," cementing his authority and their deep loyalty.
Following the victory, Wukong demonstrates true leadership by looking toward the future. Recognizing that "other demons might attack us," he shifts his focus to national security. He dedicates his time to "teaching his subjects how to fight," training them with "swords and spears" to transform the group into a "fierce army." The gibbon notes that "no demon will dare bother us now" because of this training. However, the story concludes on a note of irony and a new quest; while his subjects are now armed, Wukong realizes that he personally "can't use any of the weapons" currently available to them. This realization serves as the catalyst for the next stage of his journey—the search for a weapon worthy of his extraordinary power.
