Welcome to Before Breakfast, a production of I Heart Radio.
Good morning.
This is Laura.
Welcome to the Before Breakfast podcast.
Today's tip is that you can go a long ways in a weekend.
If you'd like to see something or see someone... you might not need to take time off work.
You won't stay as long as you would like.
But that might still be true, even if you stayed for weeks.
Today's episode was inspired by a few recent trips I have taken.
My family needed to drop one kid off in Cape Cod for the week, and so we drove all the way up there on Saturday morning from Philadelphia and then drove all the way home on Sunday afternoon and evening.
This was a lot of driving.
But despite doing about seven hours of travel both days, not including stops, we survived.
If you draw a seven hour radius around your house or think about seven hours of travel time, I'm guessing you could get to a lot of places.
We could have taken a three and a half or even four hour flight somewhere, which is long enough to get to Denver from Philadelphia.
Florida or places in Canada could all be weekend destinations by that definition.
Now I am not saying I would want to do this every weekend, but we spent a fun 24 hours in Massachusetts.
And probably 24 hours of fun would be possible in lots of other places as well.
We have recently talked on this podcast about how lots of people want to travel more.
One common obstacle is that people don't get a lot of time off work.
They also feel like they have to wait for the kids to be on vacation from school.
But weekends are vacations that happen every week.
It might be possible to fly somewhere Friday after work and fly back Sunday.
Or you drive somewhere Saturday morning, enjoy a day there, and drive home.
Would it be better to stay longer?
Certainly.
But the upside of a weekend trip is that you might be able to do it again before too long.
Whereas if you are waiting for a week-long break from school and work, you might be waiting for a long time.
I am a fan of trips that actually happen.
So think about where you would be able to go in a weekend.
My guess is that there is a lot you could see and a lot of people you could visit even without using your PTO.
Perhaps it won't be the most relaxing weekend ever, but what are you saving that energy for?
A little weekend adventure just might shake things up in a good way.
In the meantime, this is Laura.
