Today's expression is so useful.
That's really, really great.
So one of my classes is called English Camp.
And in that class, we study together live the Friends TV show.
Do you guys know Friends?
Ross, Rachel, and Monica, Chandler, Joey, Phoebe.
And a lot of people ask the question, oh my God, but Friends is old, right?
It's so old.
Is it still useful?
Oh my God, absolutely yes.
It is not...
Well, it is not today's expression.
Today's expression is what?
Check it out.
Let's go back in time.
Today's expression is out of date.
Out of date.
Oh, that's a great expression.
Out of date.
Yeah, what was that pronunciation?
Out of date.
I know it's tough.
So O-U-T-O-F.
So out of.
Now, out of, when we say it really fast in America, it sounds like this.
Out of.
Now, some Americans do say out of, out of date, out of, that's fine, out of, but usually out of, out of, out of date.
D-A-T-E.
Okay, so the pronunciation out of date, out of date, out of date, out of date.
What does it mean?
If something is out of date, that means out.
It is no good anymore.
Or simply, it is very old, out of date.
So for example, if Coach Shane goes to a nightclub and I start dancing,
You will see that my dance moves are out of date.
They're very, very old.
I still do the Macarena.

No, believe it or not, I never learned the Macarena.
Now, I think the pronunciation is right though, but yeah.

These are very small beer companies.

That's it.

So if you go to a local beer store, I'm not joking, they will have hundreds of different kinds of beer.
And that's what guys drink.
Nowadays, guys love drinking these specialty beers, these micro brewery beers.
And yeah, it's kind of cool.
It's kind of interesting.
But me, I like the old traditional Miller.
Not even Miller Genuine Draft, not Miller Lite.
I like the old, original Miller.
The very, very first original type of Miller beer.
My beer taste is old-fashioned.
It is out of date.
Yes, out of date can also mean old fashioned.
But let me give you a really common usage of the expression out of date in the dialogue.
Are you ready?
Here we go.
What are you doing?
I'm updating the software.
It's out of date.
Oh I should do that too.
I'll let you know if it's any good.
Bingo on your computer you have software maybe it's microsoft word or what do i have
I have microsoft word avs audio editor sony vegas uh what else do i have go to meeting
Yeah all these dip photoshop all these different softwares and uh
Every six months, every year, they have a new version.
They update the software.
So if they keep updating the software, then the old software becomes updated.
Out of date.
Sometimes the old software doesn't work.
So it's not only out of date, it's useless.
In that situation, you need to update your software.
You need to bring it up.
To date.
So out of date, the opposite is up to date.
Up to date means it is the most recent version of software.
Out of date means it's an older version of software.
So
When we talk about up to date, bring the software up to date, we just combine the words and say update, make it a verb update.
So out of date, the opposite is up to date.
And we can use the verb update to update your software.
Okay?
So this is a great expression.
I'm updating the software because it is out of date.
Now, be careful.
Sometimes when they update the software, the new updated version is no good.
Right?
That's happened to me.
Oh, I hate that.
Especially with your, you know, the iPhone.
Be careful.
I never, this is just me, I never update the software.
I always wait.
Like three or four months.
Then I update to the new version.
