Today's expression, a phrasal verb, to get carried away with something, to become carried away with something.
Again, this is a great expression so once again, we usually say to get G -E -T carried C -A -R -R -I -E -D away.
What does it mean to get carried away?
It basically means to lose self control, to become over excited.
To get crazy. to think irrationally, to exaggerate, to get carried away.
So sometimes, girls and ladies, when they see a baby puppy, or even a baby, a baby girl, a baby boy, when they see the puppy or the baby they go, oh my god, oh my god, it's so cute, oh my can I touch it, can I touch it?
That's getting carried away.
But guys, and boys, can get carried away too, when it comes to sports, if you have a favorite team, sometimes you paint your face, you wear strange clothes and bright colors and you shout your team's name, Yeah!
Green Bay Packers. Cheese heads.
We get carried away.
So those are two funny examples of getting carried away.
Why don't you listen to today's dialogue?!
What's wrong? I have a bump.
It might be cancer.
It might be deadly.
I could die. I should go to the doctor.
I'm dying! Oh, I think you're getting carried away.
It's cancer. It's a pimple Yeah You're looking in the mirror and on your face you see usually your skin is very smooth but you notice there's a little bump be you MP and You think oh, it might be cancer.
It might be deadly I could die.
I should go to the doctor.
I'm dying! This person is getting carried away It's not cancer.
It's a pimple PIM PLE Check your dictionary if you don't know what a pimple is.
It's nothing So some people get carried away, and it's not funny.
It could be serious now when I go shopping at the grocery store sure, I get carried away.
I make a list, I'm going to buy some vegetables and some soup, and bread and milk, that's all.
But then I buy crackers and cookies and 7 Up, and I buy all these delicious ice creams and all this delicious chocolate and the donuts and some cake and cinnamon rolls and pizza and burritos, I get carried away and if you get carried away when you go shopping it's expensive and also it's usually not that healthy.
Let's listen to the dialogue two more times.
