Hello my friends and welcome back to the English with Neil Learn English podcast.
How is everyone doing today?
I have some good news before we start.
We just finished updating my website englishwithneilcom, so if you would like, Just click the link in my description englishwithnealcom.
So in this episode, I wanted to talk about living your truth.
Living your truth means being true to yourself.
There is a famous quote that we say in America.
And it's not an American quote.
It's actually from England.
And it is from a poet by the name of Shakespeare.
And he wrote a play called Hamlet.
And in Hamlet, one of the famous lines in that play was, To thy own self be true.
Another way we can say is, To thine own self be true.
And that simply means To always be true to yourself.
Always be true to who you are.
I believe that to live a happy life, to have a peace of mind, to really enjoy life, you have to just be yourself.
You can't be somebody else.
When I was growing I was a follower.
I always followed other people and I wasn't happy.
But once I graduated college and really got into the real world, I finally understood what it means to be true to yourself.
Being true to yourself means loving yourself, being different, accepting yourself, accepting your good points and your bad points.
You have to just love yourself.
When you try to please other people, when you try to live a fake life that leads to depression, that leads to sadness and that just leads to not living a fulfilling life.
And sometimes it's hard to live your truth because you want to look good in front of your friends, you want to look perfect in front of your family, but the truth is life isn't perfect.
Life is not all perfect.
So the best way, I believe, to have perfect happiness Is to just live your truth.
To live your truth you have to be bold.
You have to be brave.
Because sometimes people will laugh at you.
Or people will make fun of you.
I remember growing up.
I was in high school and one of my really good friends shared a secret with me and my other friends and he admitted that he liked to make dresses.
And my other friend was he laughed at him.
He made fun of him.
He called him a girl.
He called him soft.
But my friend, the guy that actually told us the secret actually became a famous model.
And a clothing designer, And so if he would have Listened to the negative comments, He wouldn't be where he is today.
He is successful today Because he is living his truth, And so If you're listening to this, don't be afraid to be different.
Don't be afraid to love yourself.
Don't be afraid to just live your truth.
Alright everyone, that's it for today's episode.
