We're in a golden age so many discoveries that are jumping off the page.
Britney, you've been with me since the very beginning.
The day you made me those chocolate peanut butter ball, marshmallow fudge brownies is a day I'll never forget.
Oh, I remember that.
They looked so good.
Remember how gooey they were on the inside, Guy Raz?
Shh, Mindy, yeah.
He's about to make his choice.
But I only have one golden spatula to give out tonight and my connection with Flavia is ready to come out of the oven.
Brian, it's time to make your choice.
Who will be this week's winner of the golden spatula?
Okay, bakers.
Tonight, I will be giving my golden spatula to...
The golden spatula will be right back.
Of course.
Why do they do that?
Now the show's going to keep me up past my bedtime.
Well, do you want me to make you another hot chocolate, Mindy?
I'll be up all night if I have any more sugar.
Pass me another cookie, Guy Raz.
Okay.
Hello, I'm Gail Richard Simmons, and this is News at Eight.
New research from the University of Buffalo may finally shed some light on the age-old question of the existence of the fabled Yeti.
The Yeti?
Kairos, turn it up.
No, uh, sure.
The team of researchers took nine DNA samples from what was said to be a yeti from the Himalayan mountain range.
The yeti?
Do you think they're talking about that mythical 10-foot-tall ape-like creature that lives in the snow?
I mean, what other yeti is there?
This is so exciting.
I've been trying to get a photo of that thing for years.
You have?
Yeah, where do you think I go every December?
Well, I assumed you were going home for the holidays.
Nope.
Three whole weeks of hardcore Yeti spotting in the Himalayas.
And now, after weeks of analysis, the truth behind the Yeti mystery has finally been revealed.
Stay tuned to hear all about it in our news bulletin at 11.
Ah!
I'm Gail Richard Simmons for WOW News.
Why do these shows keep cutting away before the most exciting part?
I had no idea you had such a fascination with the Yeti, Mindy.
Oh, yeah.
I love that big furry guy.
Why do you think I have a photo of Eric Shipton above my toilet?
Eric Shipton?
I thought that was your grandpa.
Wrong again, Guy Raz.
It's Eric Shipton, famous British explorer.
Uh... Every Yeti head knows who Eric Shipton is.
They do?
Yeah, Guy Raz, he took the first ever photo of the Yeti.
He did?
Well...
Not really.
It was just a footprint in the snow in 1951 in the Himalayan mountains.
But and this is a big but up until now it's been the most solid evidence that we have of the Yeti's existence.
Uh, right.
Oh!
Guy Raz, I just had the most bonker balls idea.
Oh, no.
What if we went back in time to 1951, found that famous explorer, Eric Shipton, and solved this Yeti mystery for ourselves?
I bet he's got some Yeti bones or something that we could extract some DNA from and analyze.
Or we could just wait to see the results from that study from the University of Buffalo when it comes back on the news at 11 pm.
That's too far past my bedtime, Guy Raz.
Plus, I've been looking for an opportunity to test out my new DNA analyzer that I installed in the wow machine.
Come on!
But Mindy, we're just about to find out who won the golden spatula.
Come on, Guy Raz, there's gotta be like five more breaks before we solve that mystery, but this is a mystery that we can solve right now.
Please, anything for yetis?
Well uh, just come with me.
Okay fine, but let's record the golden spatula ceremony just to be sure we don't miss it.
I've Really hope Britney wins.
Yes.
Okay.
Setting to record.
And we are on our way.
Come on, Guy Raz.
The wow machine's parked out in front.
Wait for me, Mindy.
Locking up the gingerbread mansion.
All right.
I think you might be overdoing it.
There we go.
Okay.
Now, where did I leave the wow machine?
Um, huh.
There it is!
Uh-oh.
Mindy?
Huh?
Huh?
I got to be up at ten in the morning.
Guy Raz, get in the wow machine.
Right behind you.
I'm so excited, Guy Raz.
I am Yeti obsessed.
I heard that the Yeti is a descendant of one of our early ancestors that evolved to live in the snow.
Uh-huh.
And that the Yeti's hair is as smooth as silk.
Right.
And that the Yeti is surprisingly good at hot scotch.
Uh, shouldn't we get going, Mindy?
Good idea, Guy Raz.
But first, you're going to have to change.
It can get pretty cold in the Himalayan mountains.
Well, I imagine so.
It's the highest mountain range in the entire world.
Exactly.
Okay, let me see what I've got here in my adventure tool kit for you to wear.
Uh, swimsuit, business suit, space suit, lawsuit, birthday suit.
What?
Oh!
A snowsuit!
But it's extra, extra small.
Looks like you're stuck with the spacesuit, Guy Raz.
Here, throw it on while I plug in the coordinates.
Okay.
Can you just see here?
Himalayas, 1951.
You okay with the helmet there, buddy?
Yeah.
How do I look?
Like a real live space cadet.
Okay.
Oh, sorry, Guy Raz.
I can't hear you.
You gotta open the helmet.
Oh, right.
There.
How's that?
Ah, that's better.
Now let me just put mine on, too.
There we go.
Just a couple of spacesuit sallies on their way to solve a history mystery.
Ready to go?
As ready as I'll ever be.
That's the spirit, Guy Raz.
Now hold on tight, because here we go!
Here we go!
Yikes, listen to that wind.
Wow, sounds like quite the snowstorm outside.
Well, we are in the middle of the Himalayas.
Let's see here.
Wow machine, how cold is it outside?
It is deep, chatteringly cold outside.
Yeah, what is that in Fahrenheit?
Approximately 30 degrees Fahrenheit.
Whew, that's like minus one degree Celsius.
Bet you're glad to be wearing that space suit now, Guy Raz.
I just hope it holds up when we step outside.
Well, we're about to find out, because here we go.
All right.
Opening the hatch.
Oh!
Ow, it sure is windy out here.
What?
I said it sure is windy out here.
No, I don't think they have any trout here.
No, I said.
Guy Raz, look over there.
What is it?
Looks like some sort of tent.
Or a group of tents.
Maybe that's Explorer Eric Shipton's research team.
Great thinking, Mindy.
Come on, let's check it out.
Race you there.
Race, race, race, race, race, race, race.
Mindy, not too fast.
It's hard to see in this snowstorm.
This place is nice.
You think they have any hot cocoa?
Hot cocoa?
Mindy, we need to get out of this wind.
It's freezing cold.
Good idea.
Let's see if we can find a person.
Hello there.
A person!
Guy Raz, I found a person!
Thank goodness!
Can I help you two?
Uh, yes, I think so.
Uh, maybe.
We are looking for Eric Shipton, if you will.
He's an explorer.
Yeah, about, uh, 5'10", mustache, far-off look in his eye.
Yes, I'm familiar.
You know him?
Of course.
I'm his assistant, Reginald Bailey.
Hey, I know a Reggie.
Oh, a charming gent, I'm sure.
Oh, no.
He's a pigeon.
Oh.
So Eric Shipton is here?
Yes, sir.
Can you take us to him?
Because we could really use his help getting our hands on some Yeti DNA.
DNA?
Yeah, you know, it's like the instruction manual for life.
Every living creature has it.
And more importantly, it's unique to every animal.
So our thinking is that we'll get some Yeti bones from Mr Shipton, throw them into my DNA analyzer and settle once and for all if the Yeti is real or not.
Pretty good plan, huh?
Yes, well, I'm not sure if we have any Yeti bones, but I'm happy to take you to Mr. Shipton.
I just need a few more moments to help our new research assistants get equipped for our expedition.
Huh?
What was that?
Uncertain.
You do stay here.
I'm going to alert Mr. Shipton.
Okay.
All right.
I don't like the sound of that, Mindy.
I don't like the look of it either.
What do you mean?
Over there, Guy Raz.
Look.
I can't see anything with all this snow, Mindy.
What was that?
Hey.
Hello?
Hi.
Carly Q. Nice to meet you.
Uh, hi there, Carly.
I'm Mindy.
And I'm Guy Raz.
Ooh, nice revolutionary war costumes.
Seems like an unusual choice for the Himalayas in 1951.
Says the man in the space suit.
Ha ha!
Fair enough.
Wait, are you two traveling through time too?
We are.
Huh?
Carly Q, we're really not meant to talk about that.
They're wearing spacesuits, Lewis.
I think we can trust them.
This is so exciting.
For as big as the time-space continuum is, you hardly ever see people traveling across it.
What is that thing?
Why is it growling?
We're over there in the snow!
Is that the Yeti?
Did we find it?
Big?
Hairy?
Covered in white fur?
Sure looks like a Yeti to me!
That thing must be ten feet tall!
And it's getting on all fours and heading straight for us!
Run!
Run, run, run, run, run, run!
Don't worry, everyone!
I have the wow machine parked right around the corner!
You have a wow machine?
That's incredible!
A wow machine?
What is a wow machine?
You're gonna love it!
Mindy, quick!
Open the hatch!
Opening!
Opening!
Opening!
Mindy, quick!
There!
Got it!
Hurry!
Everyone inside!
Come in!
Everyone stay very, very quiet.
What?
I can't hear you.
You've got to talk louder.
Mandy, shh.
Mandy, what was that thing?
Ross, I told you.
It was a Yeti.
What was that?
Oh, that's just my H-Dad.
Sorry, I thought I put this thing on silent.
No information.
Local wildlife.
Animal emoji.
Running emoji.
Scared face emoji.
Local wildlife?
Maybe it can tell us what just chased us out of that camp?
Well, we already know what that was, Louis.
It was a yeti.
Just ask H-Dad.
Ugh, fine.
H-Dad, what creature almost ate me and my new friends?
Analyzing.
Hourglass emoji.
Hourglass emoji.
Hourglass emoji.
Another hourglass emoji.
How long does this usually take?
You know, it varies from episode to episode.
Episode?
Hourglass emoji.
Analysis complete.
The creature located 400 feet north of the current location is identified as...
Handle this tension!
A Himalayan black bear.
A Himalayan black bear?
Oh, mumblecrust.
I could have sworn it was a yeti.
Additional study relating to yetis found in 2017 from the University of Buffalo.
Kairos, that's the same study we heard about on the news.
Yeah.
In 2017, scientists analyzed nine samples of yeti hair, yeti teeth and yeti bones and concluded that eight of the nine samples contained
Bear DNA.
Bear emoji.
Helix emoji.
Shocked face emoji.
But what about the last sample?
Yeah, maybe it was the Yeti DNA.
H-Dad, was the final DNA sample from a Yeti?
The final sample contained... Canine DNA.
Dog emoji.
Helix emoji.
Laughing, crying emoji.
So, no Yeti?
Afraid not.
Alarm sound.
Sorry, sorry, sorry.
Still not on silent.
Alarm sound.
Over.
Return to the time elevator immediately.
Alarm clock emoji.
Sad face emoji.
Well, sounds like it's time for us to go.
Oh, really?
But we just met you.
Yeah, we have this very important rule that says we have to be back at HQ by the end of lunch.
Wait, you guys are on your lunch break?
Can we at least give you a ride back?
I mean, this old gal still got some gas in the tank.
Ignore that, super nice of you, but we actually have this time elevator thing that we use.
Oh, an elevator who do they have playing?
Uh what, he's obsessed with elevator music.
Oh uh, i don't know about the elevator music, but we do have an elevator operator, odie.
You would love her.
She's been around forever, like maybe legit forever.
Um, we should ask her to sing for us.
Lewis, do you think Odie sings?
I don't know, Carly Q. All I know is that we're almost out of time.
We need to go.
Fine.
Sorry, friends.
We gotta go, but it was nice meeting you.
Uh, how do I... Oh, hang on.
I'll help you here.
There's a special trick to it.
Uh, stand back.
Oh, no.
There you go.
Um, thanks?
Safe travels!
Bye, Mindy!
Bye, Guyron!
Bye, Carly!
Bye, Lewis!
They seem nice.
Yeah, but I hope they don't bump into that black bear on their way to that time-traveling elevator of theirs.
Yeah, and I'm so bummed we didn't get proof of the Yeti's existence.
Well, we don't know for sure that the Yeti doesn't exist, Mindy.
All this study proves is that those samples at the University of Buffalo came from bears and dogs.
So you're saying that the Yeti could still be out there?
Well, not necessarily, but anything is possible, Mindy.
Sounds like someone's on their way to becoming a verified Yeti spotter.
Hey, what are you doing next December, Guy Raz?
Uh, I think I might be busy, Mindy.
Fine.
I guess I'll have to ask that Carly Q person.
How?
With this.
Is that an ID badge?
Yep.
Look what it says.
Butthead.
Butthead?
I think it says the Bureau of Universal Time Travel Historical Exploration Division, Mindy.
Which is long for...
Exactly.
It must be where she works.
What do you say?
Want to go return some lost property, Guy Raz?
Okay, but then we're heading back to finish that episode of The Golden Spatula.
Deal.
All right, now hold on tight because here we go!
