Hey there, welcome to Radioheadspace.
I'm Dora, and as always, I'm so glad that you're here.
A while ago, I had a big project that meant a lot to me.
I wanted it to be perfect so I triple -checked every single detail.
I rewrote sections, redesigned layouts, and obsessed over things no one else would notice.
I told myself this was a good thing.
I was being diligent, thorough, ensuring success for myself and my team.
But the more I micromanaged, the more stressed I became.
The creative flow disappeared.
my team felt stifled.
And the whole thing started to unravel.
And still, I held on even tighter.
And that's when someone on my team said something that stopped me in my tracks.
I think the project is good, but I think we're losing the heart of it.
At first, I resisted, I'm only human.
I'm just making sure it turns out right.
But then I realized they were right.
My grip on the project wasn't helping it, it was strangling it.
I think this has happened to all of us from time to time.
We convince ourselves that holding on tightly to projects, relationships, expectations is what will keep them safe.
But sometimes, the tighter we hold, the more we lose, and few stories illustrate this better than the traveler and the closed fist. So a traveler was crossing a vast desert when they noticed the sand beneath their feet was soft, cool, and fine.
Wanting to keep some, they bent down, scooped a handful into their palm, and closed their fist tightly to hold onto it.
But as they walked, they noticed something.
The harder they clenched, the more the sand slipped through the cracks in their fingers.
By the time they reached the next stop, their hand was empty.
Meanwhile, another traveler had done something different.
Instead of gripping the sand, they kept their palm open, allowing the sand to rest gently in their hand.
And when they arrived at the next stop, the sand was still there.
How often do we try to grip onto something out of fear, only to find it slipping away?
Like a relationship we try to control, afraid that if we loosen our grip, we'll lose it.
Or a project we obsess over, convinced that if we don't micromanage every detail, it will fail.
Or maybe even a moment of happiness we hold onto too tightly, worried that it will disappear.
But the truth is, tightening our grip doesn't protect what we love.
A tight grip pushes us away.
With my project, I decided to take a step back and trust my team.
I stopped rewriting everything.
I let go of perfection and allowed it to be good enough.
And that's when everything clicked.
The work got better, my team felt more engaged and I finally felt free.
Just like the traveler, I realized that holding with an open hand was far more powerful than clenching my fists.
So today I invite you to ask yourself where are you holding on so tightly that it's actually making you lose what you're trying to keep?
Because some things aren't meant to be grasped, they're meant to be held lightly with trust, and when we learn to hold on without fear, we may just find that what matters most stays with us after all.
I'll end it here for today, thank you so much for listening, and I'll see you back here tomorrow.
