Thanks for asking. Every year in May, film stars and fans flock to the French city of Cannes for a 10 -day celebration of cinema or as it's referred to in the host country, the seventh art.
Well not quite every year.
Just like many large events the Cannes film festival has had to adapt over the last couple of years.
The 2021 event took place in August, while in 2020 it had to be cancelled completely.
This year though the festival returned to full spectator capacity for its 75th edition, getting underway on the 17th of May and closing this evening on the 28th.
Already at the time of recording there have been a number of attention -grabbing moments including a hero's welcome for Tom Cruise who received an honorary Palme d 'Or, a fly past from the French Air Force, an unexpected video message from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and a topless protester storming the red carpet to highlight sexual violence against women in Ukraine.
Ah can! A glamorous array of stars on the red carpet, a countless number of premières, the Palme d 'Or and a healthy serving of controversy, why does it stand out so much from other cinema events in France?
While the Caesars are the main awards for films that are made in France, the Cannes festival is a more international event in that it recognises films from all around the world.
It was first held in 1946 and the celebration features a number of symbolic moments like the opening ceremony, the presentation of the jury and the first screening, which tends to be one of the films in the official selection.
How does the official competition work?
It's decided by a jury and features a selection of 20 films, representing the diversity of contemporary cinema.
Some directors feature year in, year out, but the idea is to have a mix from many different countries.
The jury itself is also supposed to be diverse, made up of industry figures from different backgrounds.
This year it's presided over by French actor Vincent Lindon, who made a poignant speech during the opening ceremony.
When it comes to awards the one everyone wants to win is the famous Palmedoor which is second in prestige only to the Oscars according to IndieWire .com then you've got the Grand Prix, the other official selection awards are Best Short Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay and The Jury Prize.
What about the other films that aren't part of the official selection?
The Fall Festival sees over 80 films premiered in total and being screened at Cannes certainly bestows a certain prestige on any film regardless of whether it wins an award or is part of the official selection.
In the months following the festival, the films that premiered at Cannes start being released in cinemas, meaning there's a certain anticipation among cinema enthusiasts around the world, in particular for the winner of the Palme D 'Or prize.
There you have it! Now you know what the Cannes Film Festival is!
