Psst! Hey, Wowzer fans!
Mindy here. And before we start the show, I've got a question for you.
Brrrr. Are you ready to...make it WOW?
Brrr! Okay, here's the deal.
My buddy Carly Q and I are hitting the road to Make It Wow with you in the D .C.
area. Brrrr. That's right.
We'll be making it WOW in Bethesda, Maryland on Saturday, March 29th.
Brrr! Make It Wow is a live Bunker -Balls competition game show where real kids are the star of the show.
Two teams of wowzers will turn their wildest and weirdest ideas into jaw -dropping inventions live on stage.

That's tinkercast .com slash events.
We can't wait to make it WOW with you this spring, but until then, let's get on with the show.
And then we... Oh wait, no. I said laughing twice.
Er... Whatever. Wee -wow on the weekend!
Yeah! Wee -wow on the weekend!
Clap! Clap! Wee -wow on the weekend!
Because this is what we do on the weekend!
Hello, and welcome to Wee -wow on the Weekend!
I'm your host, Dennis !And that's Reggie, my co -host!
This is the show where we hang out in my mother's basement, listen to episodes of Tinkercast shows, and answer questions from my devoted listeners.
Brrr! So let's get to the first segment.
Reggie, should we do Q and A segment or reading revusies?
Brrr! Brrr! Brrr! What?
You have an idea for a segment.
Brrr! That's so exciting!
What is it? Brrr! Eww!
The slumber segment!
What's that? OK, you get a pillow and a blanket.
Then what? And then you lay down.
Then what? And then you go to sleep.
Reggie, are you just trying to take a nap?
No, no naps. We're in the middle of a show.
You can nap later. Reggie, wake up.
We're not doing slumber segment.
No, we're gonna do a Q & A segment.
A -a -a -ah. The Q & A segment.
And time. All right, let's just get the old answering machine pulled up here.
OK, here we go. Hi, you've reached Dennis from We Wow on the weekend.
That's me. Do you have a question?
Well, I do, too. Lots of them.
And who's going to answer all my questions?
You, probably not. But I guess I can answer yours.
Leave me a message.
Hey, Dennis. My name is Theo.
And I have a question for you.
OK, go ahead, Theo.
What was the secret to growing your prize -winning azaleas?
PS, I think Wee Wow on the Weekend is awesome.
Thank you, Theo. You are correct.
Wee Wow on the Weekend is awesome.
And as for my prize -winning azaleas, obviously I water them and pull up weeds and make sure they get the right amount of sunlight.
But the real secret to prize winning azaleas is, you have to gossip with them every day.
Yes, Reggie, every day!
If you whisper three secrets to them every day by 4 PM, it makes their petals extra lustrous.
Then the other thing I do is enter them in lots of contests.
Because, Reggie, they need compliments in the form of prizes.
If they don't win prizes, then they're just regular azaleas, not prize -winning azaleas.
Well, just this week, my azaleas have won both the prettiest flower award and the most azalea -ist azaleas award. But also, sometimes I enter them in non -flower contests.
Yeah, last week they won a hot dog eating contest. Reggie, they won because they're prize winning.
Next question. Hi Dennis, my name is Micah and I live in Austin, Texas.
My question for you is what does baby Dennis think of flying a plane?
What does baby Dennis think of flying a plane?
Well, let's ask him.
Oh, baby Dennis. What is it, big Dennis?
Where are you? Baby Dennis is over here, up on the shelf.
Oh, baby Dennis, what are you doing on the shelf?
Didn't I leave you in a cardboard box?
Baby Dennis moves in mysterious ways.
OK. Don't love that.
Well, anyway, baby Dennis Micah has a question for you What do you think of flying a plane Okay, well then fly me to Hawaii Oh, never mind.
Next question. Hi, Dennis.
I'm Sophia from Wiley, Texas.
Hi, Sophia. And I wanted to know, if you put your left shoe on the wrong foot, is it technically on the right foot?
I'm confused on that one.
OK. If you put your left shoe on the wrong foot, is it technically on the right foot?
Well, that's easy, Sophia.
Your shoe is not on the right foot because the left shoe is on the right foot.
Wait, your left shoe is on your right foot, which is the wrong foot because it's your left shoe on your right foot, which is wrong.
Well, now I'm confused too, Sophia.
I think the answer is just to never wear shoes ever again.
Thanks for all your calls, everyone.
If you've got a question for me, call and leave me a message.
The number is 1 -888 -7 -wow -wow.
That's 1 -888 -7 -wow -wow.
I just might answer your question on Wee Wow on the weekend.
OK, that takes care of that.
Reggie, are you still awake?
OK, good. Next up is a little segment I like to call Inside Tinker Cast Studios.
uh -uh -um inside TinkerCast Studios.
This is the part where we revisit an episode of one of my favorite TinkerCast shows.
And today, we're listening to wow in the world season 2, episode 28, called, how to slip your way to victory.
Oh, Reggie, stay awake, OK?
OK, here we go. And play.
Wee Wow will be right back.
Grown -ups this message is for you!
That's it now back to the show All right, let me just get this thing ready to play fresh, fresh, all around!
Now, sit, sit, sit, sit!
Oh yeah! Good job, Mindy!
Thanks, Mindy! Don't mention it!
Go show off those beautiful, pearly whites!
I will, Mindy! Now, where did I put that mouthwash?
Wha - whoa! Mindy, what is happening?
Earthquake? T -Rex? Ugh, is it that gang of raccoons I was laughing at the other day?
Oh, no! My gingerbread mansion is collapsing in on itself!
Ugh! No, I should've used whole wheat flour!
Ahh! Fred, Fred, Fred, Fred, Fred, Fred!
Escape! Ugh! Eee! Oh, man.
Not again. That's the third time I've had to rebake this mansion this week!
Ugh! Where is that coming from, Mindy?
I don't know, is it coming from Guy Raz's house?
Mmmm. Run run run run run run run.
Hello? Guy Raz? That's not a necktie.
This is a necktie. Guy Raz, wake up before you snore the whole neighbourhood down.
You, sir, have insulted my honor.
What? I challenge you to a thumb war.
Gayroz. Gayroz! Ugh, this is never going to work.
Where is that emergency wake up kit?
Ugh, here it is. Ah, smelling salt.
It's a pail of water.
Ah -ha! Air horn. Perfect!
Sorry in advance, Gayroz.
Ah! Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Where am I? Is the queen OK?
Guy Rau's snapped out of it!
Mindy, what are you doing in my room?
What time is it? Guy Rau's, I came over here to wake you up.
Wake me up? Mindy, this is the first decent night's sleep I've had all week.
Really? Man, you should get into Remy.
He's a life saver. Remy?
Who's Remy? Remy, the sleep coach!
He's been helping me get ready for the big competition tomorrow.
The big competition?
What are you talking about?
Guy Raz, don't tell me you forgot about it!
Uhhhhhh. The annual NPR three -point basketball competition?
Alllll riit! Uhhhhh, of course!
And it's all going down tomorrow at dawn.
And this Remy guy is supposedly going to help you with this?
Yeah, he says a few extra hours in bed every night.
every night can help me sleep my way to victory.
Well, that does make sense.
Ugh. Uh -huh. And this year, I know I'll win.
I'm going to give that Ira Glass the fight of his American life.
And this guy, Remmy, is he the one to help you do it?
Yeah. I'm surprised you haven't heard of him yet.
He's all over TV. Here, check it out.
Are you not as fast as you want to be?
Do you find yourself losing a Peabody award winning journalists every single year?
That's oddly specific...
Shh, listen! If that sounds familiar then boy, do I have a solution for you.
Sleep your way to Victory Bootcamp.
Sleep your way to Victory Bootcamp?
That's right. My Sleep Your Way To Victory Bootcamp will teach you the fundamentals of snoozing, dozing, and napping.

Oversleeping may result in cranky parents, missed school and comparisons to sloths, koalas and other generally lazy animals.
See Guy Roz? This is the guy who's been helping me get ready for the 3 point competition.
And I gotta tell you, my sleep hygiene has never been better.
Sleep hygiene? Yeah!
So sleep hygiene is really just a fancy pants way of saying a good night sleep.
So I've been getting my eight hours, limiting my screen time before bed, and saying no to coffee.
The best part of waking up.
No, coffee! Uh -huh.
In fact, I was just getting ready to go see Remy for another session.
You want to come? I don't know, Mindy.
Ah, it seems pretty late, uh...
OK Zoodle, what's the time?
The time. Also known as Morris Day and The Time, an American musical group that was formed in Minneapolis - No, no, no, no!
Zoodle, what's the time now?
In time, an American dystopian science fiction action thriller film starring Justin Timberlake - Oh, no, no, no, no, Zoodle!
Guy Raz, it's 8 .30.
8 30, Mindy, it's the middle of the night!
For you? Well, when's a better time to practice sleeping than the middle of the night?
I guess that's true.
So you'll come? Sure.
I mean, I couldn't hurt, right?
Let me just get my stuff together.
Pasta pita pillow, silk eye mask.
Mindy? Could you pass me my dehumidifier and static noise generator?
Well, I think that's everything.
All right. Let me just give Reg a quick call.
Think he just got off of his goober shift. He's driving for goober now?
Oh, yeah. He needed the extra cash.
So, you know. Tough times, I guess.
Dial, dial, dial, dial, dial.
It's ringing. Oh, hey, Reg.
How's it going? Great.
OK. So we need a favor.
I know. I know. Yeah we just need a quick lift. Not far.
Surging! Okay fine thanks Reg.
See you soon! He's on his way.
Perfect. Alright can you help me carry all this stuff downstairs?
Sure thing guy Ross!
Eee. Waddle. Waddle.
Oh, wait, I almost forgot my nightcap.
Waddle. Oh. Okay, there we go, now.
Oh, hey, Reggie. Reggie, over here.
Ooh -ooh -ooh. Nice wheels.
Alright, Kairas, up on in.
Wait, Reggie is driving a car for Goober?
Uh, are you sure this car is safe?
Yes, of course I'm not sure it's safe.
Gyroz? Now get in! Well, uh, okay.
Seat belts on... I like to wear all of them.
Okay, Reg. We're going to need you to take us to the Sleep Gym.
It's on the corner of Broken Dreams Boulevard and memory lane.
I really don't think this is necessary.
Neither is breathing, Gyroz, and you do that all day long.
Uh... Y 'all strapped in?
I think so. Good. Because here...
we... go! Whoo! What a trip!
You got to take us driving more often, Reg!
Okay, okay. Remember to tip your driver, Guy Rozz.
Okay, Reg, we got to run.
Or sleep. You know what I mean.
Catch you later! Welch, here we are, Guy Rozz.
The sleep gym. Oh yeah, I can see the sign, the sleep gym.
Plenty of rest so you can beat the best. Huh.
You ready? As I'll ever be.
All right, let's go, buddy.
OK, you sleepy heads, are you ready for another set?
Yeah. All right, you asked for it.
Now, drop down and give me three cycles.
Cycles? What is he talking about, Mindy?
Well... Sorry. I think he's talking about sleep cycles.
You know, the different stages that your body goes through when you close your eyes.
Wait, you mean when I close my eyes and doze off, my body is still working out?
Yep, that's why sleep is so important, Guy Raz.
And my ticket to winning that three -point basketball competition.
I don't know, Mindy.
I mean, all these people, they don't even look like they're sleeping their way to anything.
Well, it might not look like they're doing anything, Guy Raz, but there's actually a lot of important work happening inside your body when you go to sleep.
Okay. Stage one, here we go.
Shh. So what are these stages of sleep?
OK, so stage one is called Light Sleep, where you can still drift in and out of consciousness.
Right! And consciousness is a scientific term for being aware of what's going on around you.
Yeah! So in this stage of sleep, it's still super easy to wake people up.
Like I said, it's still very easy to wake people up at this stage.
Your eyes kind of move slowly from side to side under your eyelids, and your muscles start to slow down.
Right, so what's next?
Coming up next is stage two.
We're about to enter stage two.
Are you ready? Because here we go.
In stage two, your eyes stop moving, and your brainwaves start to slow down.
And brainwaves are basically a measurement of how active your brain is, right?
Right. So in stage two, your brainwaves slow down, your body temperature drops, and your heart rate slows down as your body prepares for deep sleep.
Deep sleep. Yep. Stage three.
OK, everyone. Let's get you into some deep sleep.
Oh man. I keep forgetting how loud deep sleep is guy ross This must have been the stage you were in when I woke you up earlier you might be right Mindy And in this stage of the sleep cycle, it's very hard to wake people up Tell me about it you had to bust out the emergency air horn And it's the stage where sleepwalking or sleep talking can happen go on, okay?
So, these very slow brain waves are called delta waves, and some scientists believe that when you're in this state of sleep, your body goes into a sort of full -on recovery mode releasing hormones, which, by the way, are the chemicals in your brain that help you grow big and strong.
Anywho, it starts repairing your immune system, your body's inner defense system, and organizing all of the learning you did that day into a long -term storage in your brain.
Huh. So that's it? Well, not exactly.
So after you reach stage 3, your body starts to come back down through stage 2.
OK, sleepyheads, let's bring you back stage 2.
And stage 1? And stage 1.
Good work, everybody.
Now for the most important part.
Now, wait a minute.
There's more? Yep. After cycling through all the different stages of sleep, your body goes through one more stage before starting it all up again.
And what is it? Here we go.
Get ready for it. It's called?
REM sleep. R -E -M sleep?
You know it, Guy -Raz.
During this phase between cycles, your breathing speeds up, your heart rate goes up, And so does your blood pressure.
And most importantly, your eyes begin to dart rapidly back and forth under your eyelids.
R -E -M, sleep, stands for Rapid Eye Movement Sleep.
Ha. And so that's it?
That's the sleep cycle?
That's it. And then it starts all over again.
All right, good work, everyone.
Now who's ready for one more?
Okay, here we go. So typically a person will go through about four or five of these cycles a night, with each cycle lasting about 90 minutes or so.
That's so fascinating, Mindy, but...
Oh boy. I think I'm going to see if I can catch a few Zs with this class before your big game.
Can you pass me that blanket over there?
Well, I still need to catch up on my sleep, too!
Well, like I was saying earlier, Mindy, it turns out that sleeping is super important when it comes to athletic performance!
Really? Really! Check out this video for this new study out of Stanford University in California!
Just... wake me up when you're done, okay?
Garroz, I'm not just gonna...
Ooh, popcorn! Okay, let's see what this day is all about!
Says here on your tape, sleep, an athletic performance, and basketball players.
Hey there, I'm Remy from the world famous sleep your way to victory bootcamp.
Remy? That's right.
Now, I know what you're thinking.
What's the science to back up all this news and success?
That is what I was thinking!
Well, lucky for you, my good friend, Guy Paz - Thank you, uh, but it's actually Raz - Uh, whatever.
My good friend Guy Raz will explain to you why you need my program.
Mr. Gaz? Well, uh, hey there sleepyheads!
Guy Raz, what are you doing in this video?
A group of scientists from Stanford University wanted to see what effect sleep had on basketball players.
So the first thing they did was to get a bunch of basketball players on their regular amount of sleep to perform a bunch of drills like sprinting shooting and reaction time.
Yeah, and then? And then the scientists measured how well these athletes perform doing the same tasks but with an extra few hours of bed rest. And what did they find?
They found that the athletes had faster sprint times.
Their basketball shooting accuracy had improved by 9 % from the free throw line.
And 9 .2 % when shooting 3 pointers.
And the players showed much faster reaction times.
Think fast. Ouch! What?
Haha! Looks like this guy needs a couple more cycles.
Hey, join us next week when we - Okay, that's enough of you, thank you very much. Right.
Hmm. Now what? Hey look, the sunrise...
The three point basketball competition!
Guy -Roz! Guy -Roz wake up!
It's Dawn! We're going to miss the competition!
Come on! Where am I?
We're at the sleep gym, but that's enough snoozing for you, buddy.
We've got a basketball game to win!
A basketball game? Oh, yeah, the NPR three -point shootout!
Sorry! Yeah, and we better get a move on it if we want to make it there in time.
The court's just next door.
Come on. Well, that's awfully convenient.
OK, now, I think it's right down this hall here.
Hey, by the way, I never knew you did videos for The Sleep Gem.
Well, I tried to tell you, Mindy, but you kept cutting me.
Oh, this is it. Welcome, everyone, to the NPR three -point Shooty Hoops Competition.
Now that we're all here, we can begin the trash talking portion of this athletic pastime.
I'm ready to rumble!
Today on the program, Mindy gets her butt kicked and then has to go crying home to her mother, who is also sad that Mindy got her butt kicked.
Not this time, Ira!
All right, challengers, take your places when you're ready.
Is everyone ready? Excellent.
In 3, 2, 1, shoot basket.
Go, Mindy, go! Go, Mindy, go!
Mindy, you did it. I guess all that sleep really did pay off, uh, Mindy?
Whoa! That was so cool!
Reggie. Did you know all that stuff about sleep cycles and rapid eye movement?
Reggie? Reggie? Reggie, I said did you know all that stuff about sleep cycles and rapid eye movement?
Me neither. Now I kind of want to take a nap.
Let's go upstairs and find a place to lay down.
Oh, yeah. Let's wrap up the show first. Thanks to all you listeners out there for tuning into WeeWow on the weekend!
