Today, the ultimate effortless English guide, the ultimate guide to effortless English.
Today, I'm going to give you a quick summary of the most important pieces, This is the most important parts of my system, of my method, the Effortless English Method, how to use it so you can get started now today and really improve your English speaking and listening very quickly so that this year
you can reach those goals you have this year for English.
Let me clean my camera and my website is effortlessenglishclub .com.
That's my official sales website for Effortless English.
EffortlessEnglishClub .com You can see it's a cold day today.
I'm outside again. There's snow behind me.
It's quite cold. We got a lot of snow this week, and then today it's very cold.
All right, let's just jump in, shall we?
Okay, the ultimate guide, Effortless English.
Let me give you, there's two parts.
I'm going to help you understand Effortless English.
understand the method so that you can understand it simply you can get my book if you want more details Effortless English learn to speak English like a native by me by A .J.
Hogue you can buy that on Amazon .com you can buy that on Kobo .com lots of other booksellers have it you can also go to my website EffortlessEnglishClub .com enter your email at the bottom of the page and I have a free email course I explain in more detail about my system.
But today, in this video, very quick, okay, I give you the short, easy so you can understand it quickly, okay.
The main thing, there are two parts, okay, two important, big parts of my system.
And a lot of people forget the first part, which I think is the most important.
The first part is the psychology system.
And the second part is the actual language, English language learning method.
that psychology part i call it the engine the engine of effortless english if we imagine that you know you're driving a car we want to use a metaphor an analogy okay you want to you want to drive a car get to where you want to go your goal so you want a super fast car this powerful and for a fast powerful
car you would need of course the car would need to be designed well to go fast maybe like an f1 a formula one car or something like that but that nice car needs a strong powerful engine if it's going to go fast so this is generally how i think of it so the engine is the psychology method it gives you
the power the energy to study every day to focus to have great concentration.
To remember faster, better, longer.
Right? To actually put in those hours and hours and hours of listening and learning and review.
Most people just lose their motivation and they quit because their energy is low, their motivation is low, the psychology is weak.
And the second part, if you think of the car part, the actual design of the car that's the method that's you know i call it in my system they're called the seven rules of effortless english and that's specifically you know how to learn use mini stories use point of view stories i'll talk about a couple
of those today but let's talk about the first part because this is the first part most people most systems most people forget about this part and it doesn't matter you can have the best method in the world like the super method the super english learning method, learn it and become fluent in three days,
whatever, right? But if you don't use it, if you don't use it because you're too tired, you're not motivated, you're bored, you're stressed, then the method's useless.
It doesn't matter how good it is in theory, but if you don't use it every day, it's no good.
It's the same with exercise, right?
You can join the perfect gym, some great gym, and they've got, like, tons and tons of weights and machines and a pool and classes and everything you could want at a gym.
But if you don't go to the gym every day or, you know, at least three or four times a week, if you don't go there consistently, if you don't go and actually work out hard with great focus, with great energy consistently, the gym's useless.
You're wasting your money on the gym membership and we all know a lot of people do this.
Okay, so in Effortless English, I have a psychology system.
We focus on this first and that is how do you energize yourself for effortless English for English learning every day when I talk about a few basics right now number one is you use your body.
This is the most important because it's the easiest and the simplest that you can do it every day and that it's as simple as standing up moving your body around.
even better is to jump up and down, play some exciting music, jump up and down, look up, hands up, everything going up, up, up, jumping up and down.
Get excited, create.
You can actually make that feeling of energy and excitement in your body.
And you do that for maybe five minutes before you study English, before you listen to English, before you read English.
It just energizes your whole body, including your mind, your brain.
So you have better focus, better motivation, better concentration, better memory.
Everything's better.
You're getting that blood moving, that energy going in your body.
And then you, if you're using my system, then you use my courses and their audio.
So you put on your headphones and you listen to the lessons.
but you only do it after you energize yourself.
It's so important. I talk about this all the time.
It's the most important part of my system.
Without the energy, you get bored, you get tired, it's hard to focus.
You've got to do this.
In my courses, I tell you to do this again and again.
I tell you to do it.
I tell you exactly how to do it.
I give you many ways to do it, but you must do it, okay?
But if you want the simple method right now that you can do anytime is you just, you jump, you play some exciting music, you jump around, you do it five minutes, then you study.
When you study or learn, don't sit down.
Do it standing up. Even better is to do it walking around.
Again, when you use my courses, my Power English course, my VIP course, or one of my others, well, it's audio.
So put your headphones on with your phone or whatever and then just walk around the room.
You can just walk in circles or you can just kind of jump around the room.
Just keep your body moving a little bit.
Don't sit, don't look down at the ground and then you'll get sleepy and you get bored and you lose concentration.
So you want to just keep that chin up, keep your head up, keep your body moving a little bit even if it's just standing and shaking your body a little while you are listening to English.
Now if you're reading, or you're studying some kind of text, maybe it's not English, maybe something else, then, okay, you can still put it up, put your book up on a counter and at least stand and, you know, move your body a little bit while you're reading.
Or even if you just get like a high chair, like a stool where you're more upright, you're not sitting down in a deep chair or deep couch, all of that will help.
The second thing you need to do is you have to take frequent breaks, frequent breaks.
Okay. It's, I know we get studying and maybe after 30 minutes, you're still feeling okay, but I recommend every 30 minutes or so do the same thing.
Play that loud music, exciting music, jump around, energize again, because naturally your, your energy is going to drop a little, drop a little, drop a little.
So you want to jump it back up again about every 30 minutes.
If you need to do it more often, you could do it every 15 minutes.
If you're still feeling great.
Okay. Maybe you go a little longer.
Maybe do it every 45 minutes.
Okay. But in general, about every 30 minutes, if you're again, listening to my courses, whenever you finish an audio, my audios are about 20 minutes, usually on average.
So you finish the main audio, then do another energy break.
Jump around for a couple minutes, then listen to the vocab audio.
And then after that, jump around a couple of minutes, then listen to the mini story lesson.
When that one's done, jump around again, energize, then listen to the point of view.
Then jump around again and finally listen to the commentary lesson.
So each, after each of those lessons, each of those audio lessons, take a short energy break.
now I in my again in my book and my emails and in my courses I teach you a lot of other tricks for increasing your motivation and your energy but this is the simplest one the easiest one anybody can do this you know you can just it's just really using your body and getting energized and doing it frequently
while learning okay so that's the engine the first part of ever English, the psychology system, energy, energy, energy, keeping your energy high, which improves your concentration, your focus, your motivation, everything, even your enjoyment.
It will make it more enjoyable.
Okay. Part two of the effortless English system is the actual method, how you learn English.
I just did a recent show about this.
And again, I'm going to make it as simple as possible.
And I'll just say, again, use mini stories and point of view stories.
I have other parts of my method for effortless English, but again, this is the ultimate guide, meaning it's the, this is the most simple.
This is, I can't, I can't make it more simple than this.
Okay. Energize your body.
Use the mini stories and point of view stories.
Why? Because the mini stories, the point of view stories will teach you vocabulary.
They teach you grammar.
But not memorizing grammar rules, okay?
Those many stories and the point of view stories are teaching you the most common, the most useful spoken grammar.
But you don't need to memorize a lot of complicated rules, you don't need pages and pages and pages of a grammar textbook.
You're just going to naturally understand and learn that grammar with repetition, listening to the stories.
The same with the vocab, the same with the phrases, phrases.
The same with, um, much of the pronunciation.
It's all there in the mini story and point of view stories.
And that's why those are so powerful and why they're, you know, a central part of my Power English course and my VIP program, both, uh, very important.
Okay. There's, are there other things you can do?
Of course. If you want to really focus on pronunciation, get my pronunciation course.
There's a lot of techniques like shadowing you can use, um, and others.
If you want to learn business English, well now you got to learn business vocabulary.
I have a business English course.
You can read business books.
You can listen to business podcasts.
There's lots of things you can do for that.
When you get into writing, academic level of writing and okay, maybe you want to review some grammar points might be helpful.
Um, but again, I'm trying to keep this as simple as possible.
the ultimate guide to effortless English.
Two parts. There's psychology energy system and there's the English learning method.
Okay, for the psychology energy system, do what I say.
You jump around, you energize your body physically every 30 minutes.
For the method, you use the mini story and point of view story lessons because you learn that those stories Use all my other rules.
They're already there.
I already made them for you.
So it's the simplest, easiest way.
You might be able to find other mini -stories somewhere.
But using that method, if you're lucky and you, you know, there's some school or teacher near you that uses that method, then you could go to those classes.
But just getting audios and listening is the easiest way.
You do those two things.
That's the heart of the effortless English system.
And that is going to make you fluent.
You just do it every day.
Do it every day. Do it every day.
So that's it. That's the ultimate guide.
I've made it as simple as I can.
If you want more details, you want more information, you want to know all the seven rules, you want to learn lots more about psychology and motivation and achieving your goals, all those things, great.
As I said, get my free email course on my website or buy my book.
It's not expensive.
Get my book, Effortless English, Learn to Speak English Like a Native by E .J.
Hoag. Or just buy one of my courses and it's all in my courses and it's all done for you.
So that's it. That's the ultimate guide.
All right, let's get into the comments and questions.
I'm cold. I'm going to put on some gloves.
All right. First of all, hi.
Nice to see you. Amina says hi.
Happy New Year in your family.
Is your city safe from a fire?
We're not anywhere close to California.
We have snow. Snow is our problem.
We have no problem with the fire.
Stranger Things family says nature there is very nice.
It is very nice. We've got snow on the ground.
It's just cold but you know it's winter.
It's supposed to be cold.
I use my voice for writing says Kanon I think it's an easy way to improve my accent okay interesting Francisco Rivas says is there a problem with my website no but we did take down one of the pirate websites that was pretending to be us I'll just double check and make sure my website is up and working
fine should be yeah, my website is working just fine, effortlessenglishclub .com now, like I said there was a pirate website that was pretending to meet me and they were cheating lots of people we finally got them taken down yay, it takes a while to get these guys taken down but now I have a team that can do
it so it's going to happen more quickly we're being more careful about pirates now Lena how old are you I'm almost 57 am I live yes Seymour says I'm currently using your mini stories great thank you Seymour today ah Sergei says hello hi Jay today Moldova is with Moldova is with you you know I am one
I'm 25 % Moldovan. One of my grandmothers is from Moldova.
In fact, that was even her name.
Moldova. So, I've never been to Moldova, but it would be interesting to go because, like I said, it's one -fourth, 25%, of my family.
One of my grandmothers was Moldovan.
Seda says, AJ, you look like a movie character or a detective.
Thank you. i'm just trying to stay warm i've got a my heavy wool coat on and this wool hat because um it's well below freezing today oryx is fuel fuel you need pure fuel you know energy is it's it's something we neglect we forget about because you know you can read about this it's not just english it's
everything um when you're, when we focus on goals, people talk about goals, people talk about success, all these things.
And all of these things require energy, right?
Anything that requires effort requires energy.
And so I think that anytime you're trying to do something that might be difficult or it's a goal.
You've got to focus on this part first.
Well, how do I get the energy to do it?
Like if you want to start your own business, that's a great goal, but it will require a lot of energy, physical and mental, a lot of motivation.
You got to keep going, keep going, keep going.
So how do you increase your energy so that you, you know, have it?
what's going on I have a little bit problem here one second I got to check my connection I've got an issue with my connection here Sorry guys, I'm just checking YouTube's giving me an error message Should be getting Let me just try to move around a little bit I've got a good internet connection What's
going on? huh, weird.
All right. Well, let me know in the comments.
Can you read, can, are you getting this?
Seems to be working now.
Okay. Thank you. All right.
So anyway, energy, we gotta, we gotta, uh, focus on this.
Okay. Like if you want to exercise, this is the problem.
People who are, you know, people, they want to lose weight or exercise.
So they, and they know I need to exercise.
I need to go out. I need to exercise.
but then to exercise, you need some energy to get started.
It takes a lot of energy to go for a run or to go to the gym and lift weights.
So if you're just super tired all the time, right?
Then you feel like, Oh, well, it's a trap.
Well, okay. I know if I exercise, I'll feel better, but because I don't, because I feel tired, I don't want to exercise and this is loop and people get stuck.
So you want to figure out a way to, uh, energize yourself.
And that might start with diet and might start with some simple things like I'm talking about might be some little psychology tricks you use on yourself.
All of these things can be helpful so that you get yourself more energized and you can actually start your plan, whatever it is, exercise plan, learning English plan, you know, whatever.
Right. It's so important to focus on the psychology and the energy, I think, is the first step.
I think it is the first thing you have to focus on I'm it's one of the things I'm focusing on this year myself and already I'm feeling much better because I'm focusing on nutrition and eating because that's one of my weak points oh Luis Mora says hi from Colombia it's my first time typing to you thank
you for helping us through your videos.
I use your videos for listening.
It's helping me a lot.
I wish you the best and I wish the best for your son.
Oh, thank you. That's very nice.
Thank you. Yeah. That's why I make these videos.
It's lots of free listening.
And I I'll add the audios to the podcast soon.
I'm a little behind on doing that.
Let's do another book club says Auric.
That's a great idea.
Send me suggestions for books.
I mean, I was asking about the fire.
No problem. Thank you for asking.
Yeah. Like Fincha English says, the way I study, I use a lot of the number of methods which you suggest.
Like, first I'll do a mini story for an hour.
Then I do shadowing for 20 minutes.
Then I'll read a book.
Right now I'm reading Doctor Who books, perfect, for one hour.
Then I do review vocabulary.
That's awesome. That's a great system right there.
That's a great daily plan.
It's really good. I like it.
Fernando Diaz says, hey, Jay, I'm working now, but luckily I have my headphones.
Yes, obviously, when I'm talking about the energizing and stuff, some situations, like you're on a bus, you're at your job, you're in public, you can't quite do these things.
But you can at least, even in most jobs, if it's an office job, you can probably at least stand up out of your chair and just stretch a little, you know, and just a little bit.
Get out of it. At least get out of your seat.
Move around a little.
Maybe even go for a little walk in the office or up and down the stairs if your building has stairs.
You know, you can probably find some small things you can do maybe.
uh even and if you have to sit again like if you're riding in a bus or a train going to work coming back then at least you know keep your back straight keep your head up don't just you know get all tired in the seat try to have a good posture a strong posture even that can help your energy a bit cool
mana uh let's see abo ali says this is my first comment thank you for making english convenient well you're welcome nice hizmet abilof says excuse me I've got all your courses except for the vip course I plan to join it too after I've finished fantastic and I look forward to you joining the VIP program.
Oh, oh, Old Man and the Sea.
Oreck is recommending the book Old Man and the Sea.
That's a great suggestion.
It's a little bit difficult.
It's a classic book.
I believe it helped get the Nobel Prize for literature for it's Hemingway it's a nice story with yeah not too long I like it that would be a good that's a good classic you know fairly recent classic but still and it's a it's a good one for Hemingway because it's not so long good idea Old Man and the Sea that's
a great suggestion for a fiction book Sommelier Ali Pana says Hi AJ Hi dear AJ Hoag Thank you for teaching And your guidance I appreciate it Be always safe and happy God bless you Thank you I'm a mathematics teacher And I learned from you a lot Well thank you so much That's very nice And the same to
you as well Shadiq says I have experienced Your power English course It's out of sight Absolutely stupendous which means amazing great thank you it's a nice testimonial okay as a jean says i struggle with one thing sometimes i feel like i have no improvement in myself um even after listening to your
podcast for uh four hours is it normal to have this feeling it's definitely normal to have a feeling like that of course you definitely want to make sure you are improving.
And if you're not, then you need to adjust what you're doing a little bit.
Now, I don't, I don't know how long, you know, you say four hours.
So is that one month, two months, six months, a year, you know, it's normal for three, four or five months to not feel a big improvement.
But if you go longer than six months and you still feel no improvement at all, you don't notice any improvement, then you need to change what you're doing a bit.
And I don't know exactly, I don't know your situation exactly, but just try different things, you know, and this is not just English.
This is in all things, because I know, you know, when I was doing jujitsu, I would go through long periods of time where I felt like I was not improving at all, even though I was practicing a lot.
And then, but then I would jump up a bit, so.
zamir whoops just lost zamir here where's zamir's comment one second here we go i hope you and your family are doing well what do you think does listening come first or reading well naturally listening come first i'm relaxing with listening rather than reading reading is kind of boring for me totally
fine just do tons of listening.
It's totally fine to focus on listening.
Reading has lots of benefits, especially for vocab.
And some people are like, I'm more of a reader myself.
I learned. I naturally like to learn by reading because I find it's faster for me.
But for language, you've got to get the listening in, right?
Or else you don't know what it sounds like.
You don't ever get a feeling for the right sounds, the rhythm, you know, so you've got to do the listening, which is why I usually say focus on that listening first, but reading, read as much as you like, is what I would say.
The reading can support your listening, or if you're just not wanting to do any reading right now, then it's okay.
Elzbiette says, I am 52 years old.
You are like my brother.
I love you. You're a very good man.
Well, thank you. That's very nice.
Thank you. um amina says aj what about sleeping twice in a day like at night and in the afternoon is it good for staying motivated the whole day so yeah we call that a nap like a short little sleep during the day um yeah if you can do it that's great take a little nap a lot of famous uh very productive
energetic people creative people in history took naps i would do it if i could but my kids keep me too busy but yes absolutely Sandro Cerubini says I do yoga and it's fantastic yes so there you go if you do yoga so you could do that as a break while you study you could do a few sun salutations you don't
have to do a whole routine you have your normal exercise but in terms of energizing your body for study you could do five sun salutations which is a very short little routine just move your body wake it up get some energy moving stretching all of it great then jump back in and keep listening or keep
doing English okay so my oh so me following up she's the math teacher she says I've begun learning English for three years now getting ready for the TOEFL exam to apply at a university in the USA I learned a lot from you, and I appreciate your work.
Good luck on your TOEFL exam.
Yes, indeed. The TOEFL is the common English exam used in American universities for, uh, well, I guess, undergrad or grad school.
Okay, so I asked, what's your idea about writing down some sentences or phrases from your main or mini or POV stories for the purpose of review.
Yes, yes, absolutely.
Yes, do it. Is it better for us to not take it down?
No, I think go ahead, write it down and review it.
That's fine. That's helpful.
Absolutely. You can make flashcards.
Some people like flashcards, some don't.
If you like them, you can make flashcards if you want to.
If you don't like it, don't do it.
You know, a lot of, again, a lot of this is, you know, my method is very flexible and, you know, a lot of it is you need to do the basic things but how you do the rest is really depends on what you enjoy and what's working for you and that can even change like you know like we had a commenter said right
now they don't want to do any reading but that might change might get tired of listening after a while of just only listening maybe in a few months they might change their mind and say I feel like doing some reading now.
Or some people, like they really don't want to start speaking.
They feel a little too nervous and shy.
They're not ready. So just focus on listening, listening, listening.
But then eventually they get to a point and they decide, ah, I really want to talk to somebody.
I feel like I'm ready now.
So it'll change. Just adapt.
Very flexible. There's not, you know, you can follow what works.
what about your real English course yeah I need to talk to Kristen and Joe see if I can get that added to my website Zerar we'll see Zer Zerair says Happy New Year's AJ have a wonderful year with lots of happiness thank you and the same to all of you oh Shaber is it Shaber Shaber Shaber says hi AJ okay,
you helped me a lot with my English.
I could travel around Europe this year.
Hey, that's great. See, honestly, I won a scholarship to study abroad.
See, these are the great real -world benefits of using English, right?
So, fantastic. Good for you.
Fernando Diaz giving some advice about naps.
To be an effective nap, don't do it more than 25 minutes.
Otherwise, you enter the deep cycle of sleep and the result is drowsiness, where you feel sleepier.
Yeah, yeah, right. So sometimes if you try to take a nap in the day and you go too long, and then you wake up and then you feel like you're half dead.
So kind of little short naps, in my experience, also tend to be more helpful than long ones.
Either that or you have to take a very long one, like do the full sleep cycle.
like a, take a full like hour and a half or three hour or four hour nap.
Just experiment with what works.
But generally, I think that the little short ones are easier to do and they can be quite helpful.
Okay. Lawson Nahi asks, AJ, I'm a student in an English department.
I feel bored when I'm reading.
Can you suggest a book to start reading?
Okay. Old Man in the Sea by Ernest Hemingway.
I'm good at English.
I need to get more info.
You know, the general rule, rule, idea, is read for pleasure.
And this is straight from, you know, Dr.
Krashen. But it's a pretty simple idea.
And pretty obvious, I think, is read something that you enjoy reading.
So that's why it's hard for me to give a specific recommendation.
I don't know what you will like.
Some people might like Lord of the Rings.
Read The Hobbit. It's one of my favorite books, The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, both by Tolkien.
But you might not like that, I don't know.
Maybe you prefer non -fiction, so books about success, or books about money, or books about business or motivation.
Or maybe you might like Hemingway, start with Old Man and the Sea, that would be a good one.
Or Animal Farm, I did a book club about that.
So you just got to follow your interests and read things that you find very interesting or enjoyable.
Then the reading, if you're trying to force yourself to read, it becomes more difficult.
all right one more and then i'm gonna go because i'm getting cold my toes are getting cold so i'll take one more comment all right mds says you gave me the confidence that's very nice thank you yeah all right oh man let's see i think i like it something is going on with my streaming having a problem
