My name is Jack and I am here today with my co -host, Sochal.
And today we're going to do a topic talk.
This talk is regret.
And this one, the game is Sochal.
This is really easy.
It's how well do you know your podcasting partner?
I'm sure I'm going to fail this one miserably because I have a very poor memory.
um and jack has a pretty good memory so i'm waiting to feel this one miserably you're also you're also very open you know what i mean like you share a lot of personal anecdotes and stories and things like that so along the way i'm able to you know pick up little pieces of uh of of your your life story
um and i think i'm maybe more closed off or you know a colder more stonewall individual you know so um yeah i have i have picked up things throughout the time but it's usually quite like i ask you and then you share so it's like yeah sharing is caring all right here we go um the first one what's your
what's my last name social oh mcbane that's easy one one i'm yes that's right and you have two names actually it's now here's a bonus question what's your middle name so what's my middle name yeah jack what is your middle name daniel you're so close you're so close i'm really close i'm actually close
oh my god donald yes how did you know that i don't know you just you kind of seemed like a daniel and he said it was close and I thought but I kind of like I don't know I just kind of came to me am I like my middle name is Donald I'm Jack Donald McBain yeah wow that's really cool I feel like a psychic
now it's like you better watch out I have magical powers that was freaky that was freaky I'm gonna guess your middle name is Emily but because you have two names you have social is your uh your uh ethnic mexican name or is it a mexican name you said it was actually like uh aztec it is mexican indigenous
indigenous thank you that was the word i'm looking for um is emily considered your middle name then i aspire other people to get the help they need i'm actually emily social and not social emily but i go by my middle name oh okay so i got it i got it flipped around okay emily social yeah i mean social
is such a cool name i totally get why you use that i was i just grew up being called social always at home the only reason that emily was my first name or is my first name is because my parents since i grew up in the u .s mostly they wanted like people like teachers and stuff to be able to say a name
if they couldn't pronounce social so um or couldn't wrap their brains around it so that was really why I had Emily um but I don't use it like ever pretty much and all school I used social too I didn't want to use Emily um how many teachers were like in the first day of class were like yeah no one could they
didn't know at all they would just as soon as there was a long uncomfortable pause i knew it was my name and i would just pipe up you just say it yeah yeah no it's it's really actually once you say your name it's so easy i've been on angle it's just super simple but um it's just hard to read a little
bit when you yeah if you're not familiar with the phonetics um of aztec names then yeah it's definitely very hard it doesn't look like anything we have like in english phonetics so yeah yeah yeah it does it does look challenging but it's actually really easy to to pronounce um okay so i'm gonna give
you a point and i'm gonna take one away from me so zero one um which u .s state did you grow up in i'm gonna say you grew up in iowa do you know where i grew up well i kind of grew up in iowa well i'll give you a bonus point back if you know oh i'm gonna say sorry i'm gonna say you grew up in iowa and Kentucky
yes you got it you got it yeah check okay I I am pretty sure I'm wrong but I don't know why I want to say this but it's like no no Jack you told you talked about where you grew up so many times and yet I'm about to get it wrong I want to say Nebraska but I'm like that's not right it's not right it's
like it is in the midwest though it's in the midwest it's in the midwest and I know I'm maybe you're you were you do it when you're right Illinois Idaho or Ohio and it's in the Midwest and it's not Nebraska one second let me you know just give me a couple more seconds I can do it for our listeners up
there I know that she's looking at that yeah Minnesota that's right that's right I was I'm from Minnesota and you are from uh kind of kentucky iowa and uh for a bonus question which city and i'm cheating i know because i think you live in iowa city right now um but kentucky i'm gonna say lexington yes
like the suburbs of lexington something like that no not the suburbs i used to live downtown lexington oh you lived in downtown lexington okay okay i don't think you're gonna get my city i mean i'll give it to you i'll give you like the uh i'll be flexible what's the first letter w hmm is in dot com
today additional terms apply service plan required for apple watch winona oh that's a pretty good guess actually um i'm from white bear lake no that was my second guess i was gonna be like white bear so close i'm from white bear lake but white bear lake is a suburb of saint paul so if you said saint
paul i would have st paul was gonna be what i was gonna say originally but when you said w's i guess not saint paul i was gonna freaking no i was so close all right fine i'll give you the i'll give it to you okay so you got uh two points and no no take it take it i don't deserve that one okay take that one
all right all right i'll let our listeners can add up our points here tell us what we got um number three how many brothers if you want to play along you can also submit it in the whatsapp group exactly your answers as they go along and then at the end you'll see how many points you got yeah that's
true that's true that's good that's good play along um see how well you know us how many brothers and sisters do you have you have one sister yeah i regret um wasting so much time at the post yeah that's right jack okay what about me you have like four siblings don't you wrong again no i know you have an older
brother and a younger brother jack does scream middle child syndrome kind of um no jack i don't know i thought it was four but it's not you you're one of four so you have three siblings all right i'm wrong i have one younger brother that's it wait wait no jack that's not real that can't be real you
only have one younger brother i have only one younger brother it's just two of us yeah i grew up with a younger brother and uh mom and dad yeah that's it jack and jay and uh mom and dad that's it weird i could have sworn you had like four siblings or you were 104 maybe i wonder if i just to have that energy
or something like a big family energy but uh yeah that way on building a skill and there's no energy you don't really have oldest brother energy yeah i've i do that kindly my mom is a is a middle child you know and so yeah you don't have that weird like competitive my sister's an older child you don't
have that weird like older sibling energy so I thought yeah I know what you're talking about too like I'm kind of a negotiator too like naturally like I want everyone to be happy I'm a people pleaser which is a middle child kind of quality yeah and you're not like very boastful or very like like eccentric
or very like um egocentric either so I kind of thought you know middle child sort Yeah.
Yeah. Well, that's okay.
That's good. I'm glad I have the middle child vibes in a older, older, but I used to be a tyrant.
Like I'll, I'll admit it.
Like I, I mellowed out big time, you know, but in high school, ask my little brother, if I was a pleasant to be around, he would not agree.
Name your sibling. Okay.
So I don't know what your twenties are for.
I know. Yeah, what your sister's name is.
I know what yours is because you said Jay.
Right, right, right.
That's right. Jay. What could your social?
See, I don't even know.
I wonder if your sister has an Aztec name as well.
She probably does. She doesn't.
No. Emily and Erica.

okay okay emily and yolanda that's interesting because you know sometimes parents will try to match you know what i mean like emily and emma no one calls me emily they call me social so it's like social and yolanda yeah and it's x and y actually their alpha they come next to each other in alphabet oh that's
my parents knew my parents did not realize this but it's just what it happens named after um my grandmother on my mom's side okay okay cool all right yeah that is that is like a a common in the african -american community but also it has a spanish uh kind of wrote to it.
Yeah. Interesting. Okay, cool.
All right. It's going to be half an hour long.
What's your university major?
I know yours. Oh, you're an English major, right?
Yeah. You're a communications major.
Yeah. Okay. We got it.
We got it. Name the university.
you went to a you went to a liberal arts school but i i know i know it's a good school but it is uh a small school um am i right yes it is a small school and it's also academically prestigious yeah yeah the thing is i just i i think you went to school in kentucky if i'm not mistaken right no oh no it
wasn't in kentucky oh okay i have i'm sorry i have no idea it's okay i don't know if i ever talk about it it's brinnell college in brinnell iowa so g -r -i -n -n -e -l -l oh yeah okay yeah you have talked about that yeah actually i'm not code 699 fl now only here for a limited time redeemable at participating
u .s restaurants like liberal arts schools that in And like, for example, there's one.
What is it? What's it called?
I'm totally blanking.
Sorry. In Minnesota, there's there's a couple of pretty prestigious, small liberal arts colleges and mine, it was Northwestern, but not going to guess it.
Not the Northwestern that you thought that you're thinking of right now.
Not that one. I went to a small liberal arts college in St.
Paul, Minnesota called Northwestern College.
Now it's called Northwestern University.
But it had so on my degree, it looks like I went to Northwestern.
But no one really thinks, you know, about the difference that there's another Northwestern that's not the one in Illinois.
Yeah. Yeah. So it's kind of nice.
When I tell people I went to Grinnell, people think I say Cornell, which is a really famous college.
And I'm like, no, that's not where I'm going.
It is prestigious, but not that.
Right, right, right.
I was going to guess yours, but I was still going to guess wrong.
I was going to say Metropolitan State University in St.
Paul, Minnesota. Oh, OK.
No, no. Yeah, I went to I did go to St.
Paul. Oh, McAllister is in St.
Paul, Minnesota. McAllister is a famous liberal professor.
Macalester is a very, very famous, prestigious school.
They were in our basketball conference, actually.
So we used to play basketball at Macalester.
I believe I got accepted to Macalester as well, but I didn't go.
Wow. I would never have gotten accepted to Macalester.
Yeah, I did get accepted to Macalester.
Now that I remember, I got accepted everywhere I applied, except for I got waitlisted at Oberlin.
Okay, okay. yeah but everywhere else i got accepted including mcallister fantastic yeah that's a great school uh peterberg movie director went to went to that school um okay let's see here we've got one more okay last question what is your go -to comfort food is it sweet salty or savory hmm jack i think
yours is savory oh i would say i'm i'm more of a sweet i go i go to no i failed once more of your sweet tooth oh no yeah i have a sweet tooth a bad sweet tooth yeah yeah which my wife finds like kind of you know odd for a man a man like in korea men don't really eat sweets you know oh that's that's
like a weird gender thing it's like i can't even have a sweet tooth she's like it's not it's not very manly to have a sweet tooth okay of all the countries because when i was in korea one thing that i found really wild was that people would always tell me like their boyfriend or whoever they were with was like
didn't want to get on a roller coaster with them scared of getting on a roller coaster and i was like i never met a man like in the u .s or in mexico that would admit that they were scared to go on a roller coaster but in korea so i'm like the gender is like it's totally different you know what i mean so it's
funny how a sweet tooth thing is like is a weird is i just think it's like we're all human like i'm like i just i think it's terrible it's really dangerous um i think yours is savory um you told me that your your grandfather you're uh on your mother's side used to make a very traditional stew it was a very
savory stew and that was one of your favorite comfort foods um that is my favorite food of all time yeah i am a savory girl and you know another thing that i will just eat uh some tiny not i'm not just like eating a huge spoonful of it but i'll duenjang paste right out of the container yeah yeah i know
what you're talking about you're samjang or duenjang like wow that's super salty yeah i only eat like a little tiny tiny tiny little lick of it yeah but like i'll put like a tiny bit on a butter knife and just like or i'll put some on a piece of seaweed and eat it um for our listeners out there like
what social is describing is a bean paste but it's it's it's seasoned very very deeply heavily with like salt and stuff like that so yeah it's a fermented soybean paste and it's extremely faulty, but it's so tasty.
It is. I'm with you.
You know, I'm not like against savory.
I just think like when I'm craving something, I'm feeling down, you know, depressed or whatever, and I just want to eat my feelings.
