It's going to be a November to remember.
But for now, let's get on with the show.
Woo! out your pencils and a fresh sheet of parchment, for Tinker Class is about to begin.
Welcome back to Tinker Class, our crash course in Science.
Fun 101 for the science seekers and adventuritos of tomorrow.
It's day three of week four, so if you're just joining us for the first time, hit pause and go back and listen to the first two episodes of this week.
Don't worry, we'll still be here when you finish.
This week we're using inspiration from our Wow in the World episode getting nosy about the science of smell.
Why different sniffs get different whiffs.
On day one, we had you listen to this episode while jotting down any thoughts, ideas and questions that came to mind.
Yesterday, we had you search through your home, making a list of all the good smells you could find.
And today, we're getting stinky.
Scented.
We're getting scented.
Huh?
Mindy.
Find a container that can hold all of your smells.
In this episode I used a bunch of jars, but you can also use a box, a bowl, a bag or even a clean sock.
Go ahead and fill your container with some good smelling things from your list.
For example, I've got a jar here and it's filled with a fresh rose from my garden, a freshly laundered washcloth, a drop of lavender essential oil, some lemon rind.
And my jar of smells is filled with toots because it was the only thing I could find so far.
Ah, Mindy!
Here we go.
Mindy!
Uh, did I do it wrong?
Uh, once you've got your...
Good smells collected in one place, you're ready to begin the next step in the tinkering process.
That's right.
It's time to test.
You're going to want to share your collection of smells with the other members of your family.
Be sure to grab a pencil and a notebook, because you're going to need to record some important information or data based on their reaction to the smells.
First, you'll ask them to rate the strength of your smells on a scale of 1 to 7.
1 being a weak smell, 7 being a strong smell, and 3 or 4 if it's somewhere in between.
Next, you're going to have them rate the pleasantness of your smells.
1 being a very unpleasant bad smell, and 7 being a very pleasant good smell.
3 or 4 if it's somewhere in between.
And once you collect all of that data or information from testing your smells on your family, meet us back here tomorrow for the next step of our tinkering process.
It's day four.
And grown-ups.
