Hey, it's Rosie from RadioheadSpace, and I want to tell you about a podcast I've really beenenjoying.
The Jordan HarbingerShow.
If you're likeme, you like tolearn, you like deepdives, and you like deeply fascinatingstories, which is exactly what you'll find on Jordan'sshow.
The Jordan Harbinger Show brings on incredible guests from all walks oflife, from authors and scientists to athletes andspies, and he sort of breaks down what makes themtick, and he gets them to talk about stuff until stories they haven't anywhereelse.
It's reallygreat. I really liked his conversation with Simon Sinek about leadership and finding yourwhy.
Another favorite of mine was the interview with BillNye,yes, the scienceguy, because youknow, I'm amillennial, and Bill holds a special place in myheart.
You can find the Jordan Harbinger Show on ApplePodcasts,Spotify, or wherever you listen topodcasts.

And she didn't say in the email but I suspect the idea was that if she practicedmeditation, she would lose any fear and therefore feel very sort ofconfident.
And I think there's quite a common way of thinking about meditation that somehow it's gonna get rid of the thing that we don't like in our mind and in turn it's gonna leave us free to express ourselves as we might like to inlife.
It's interesting she said that the advice that she had had in her workplace was to not worry too much about it but to just beherself.
And I feel like that's advice we've all received in our life overtime.
Just go and beherself. She said the problem with this advice and just being herself was it wasterrifying.
And again I think for most of us at some stage in our life we will have had that feeling to be vulnerable to expose ourselves in that way there's something sort of terrifying about it and we might think that meditation can somehow eliminate thatfear.
But what it's really saying is can we find a way in being present with thatfear?
So it's not that we're getting rid of the terror we're getting more comfortable with theterror.
We're actually willing to put ourselves in a position where there isfear, where there is anxiety in themind.
But we're not running away fromit.
We're not trying to block itout.
We're not getting involved init.
We are simply present withit.
And he reminded me of the difference between acting mindful and beingmindful.
You know what I went to my firstmonastery.
When I look back now I think what I became good at was less on being focused in mymind.
I learned how to walk veryslowly.
I learned how to eat veryslowly.
I learned how to sit for long periods of time with my legs tangledup.
Those outward actions and behaviors were not necessarily reflective of what was going on in my mind at thetime.
There was still a lot of internaldialogue.
There was still a lot of chatter and not that we're trying to stopthat.
But I would say that I was involved init.
I wasn't necessarily sort of watching it and observing it without anybias.
So there's this idea that maybe we need to behave in a particular way in order to bemindful.
Even in the example of sort of giving a talk that we have to appear veryconfident, completely sort of free fromfear.
For me that really undersells the value ofmindfulness.
When I went to my nextmonastery, when I kind of went onto, it may have been a few monasterieslater.
I remember seeing a completely different form and expression of mindfulness where people were a lot morerelaxed.
There was a lot morelaughter, a lot morehumor.
Yes, some people were walkingslowly.
Some were walking veryquickly.
Some people were eatingslowly, some were eating veryfast.
And the truth is I have no idea what was going on in theirminds.
What I do know is that when I relaxed intolife, I relaxed into mypractice.
And I found that there was no set shape for mindfulnessactually.
It was simply life is expressed differently through each ofus.
And it's for each of us to find a way to make mindfulness part of our life where we arecultivating, actively cultivating awareness and compassion in ourlife.
And sometimes that means showing up and beingpresent, not just in those moments where everything is going nicely and we get to experience the excitement and joy oflife.
Sometimes it's showing up and being present in those really challenging times when we might beafraid, when we might bescared, when we might besad.
As much aspossible, it's helpful to let go of any external notions of what it should be or what it should looklike.
Andinstead, focus on relaxing intolife.
When we dothat, we naturally find ourpractice.
Thanks for tuning intoday.
