In today's video, I want to share the most natural way for you to learn English.
You may have also noticed I have a gift for you.
It's a surprise and I'll reveal it at the end of the video, so watch until the end to find out.
Let me show you an example of natural learning.
I am nodding my head.
What does it mean?
I am nodding my head.
Makes sense.
Okay.
What's this action?
I am shaking my head.
Shaking.
Got it.
Exactly.
That's how we all learned our first language.
It's the most natural way.
The key with this is repetition.
It's learning without trying.
The more you repeat, the more it sticks in your brain.
It's subconscious.
It's magic.
I'm taking off my bag.
I'm taking off my shirt.
I'm hanging it up on the pole.
Now I'm doing press-ups.
Press-ups work my chest and triceps.
Both are muscles in my body.
When I do press ups, my chest and triceps are working hard to lift my body weight.
So what if I want to train my legs?
I can do squats or lunges.
These work my glutes, hamstrings and quads.
They are muscles, right?
Exactly.
I am jogging.
I'm hopping.
I'm skipping.
I am sprinting.
I am knackered.
I'm worn out.
Let me catch my breath.
Does knackered mean very tired?
Exactly.
Knackered is British slang.
We use it all the time.
These are monkey bars and I'm going to do pull-ups.
But what about grammar?
Don't we need books or lessons?
Good question.
In school, They tell us to study more and study hard.
And I think we lose the natural curiosity we had when we were children.
Personally, when I lived in France, I used to always try to plan what I wanted to say, and it just didn't work out.
I couldn't communicate.
So the solution isn't memorizing grammar rules and lists of vocabulary, it's to see it in action.
So I'm going to do some pull-ups.
Very soon, I will do some pull-ups.
Now I'm doing pull-ups.
I just did pull-ups. today I have done lots of exercise see if you understood you just learned four tenses in action without me explaining one single grammar rule well done so grammar is needed but Unlike what they teach in school, the best way to learn is through real life context.
And this method is called comprehensible input.
I'm famished.
What does it mean?
Oh, sorry.
I am famished.
Oh, very hungry.
Exactly.
Hit that.
In the basket.
What's next?
This?
Mm, nah.
Mango?
Ooh, yeah.
Mango's in the basket.
Yogurt.
Ice cream?
Excellent.
Time to pay.
The woman is bagging up the items watching mango in the blender.
Add a splash of milk, cube of ice and Mango smoothie in a wine glass.
Why, you ask?
Why not?
Now I am watering the plant and the soil absorbing the water.
The soil doesn't try to absorb the water, it just absorbs it.
We absorb language in the same way.
It's a natural process.
When there is clear context, it feels easy and effortless.
It's how i learned french and spanish not by studying really hard and trying to force it, but by watching, listening and repeating in context.
That's why I use this method.
It's got so many benefits and here are my top three.
The first benefit is that it's fun and easy.
It's not a chore when you get to watch videos about culture, travel or food.
It's actually really enjoyable.
So building a positive habit is easy.
The second benefit is that you can understand native speakers like me.
When a native like myself speaks at full speed, it can be hard to understand.
So watching videos like this helps you get used to the sound, the rhythm and the natural fast speech that natives use.
It's the best way to learn from natives.
The third and perhaps the biggest benefit of learning in this way through comprehensible input is that you start to think in English.
You gain a natural understanding for what sounds right.
My old French teacher used to say to me, Jay, it's a feeling.
La langue est un sentiment, which means language is a feeling.
Watching videos like this one and learning through comprehensible inputs gives you that natural understanding so you can think and speak like a native.
It's a very powerful way.
So why doesn't everyone learn in this way?
As you probably know, it's hard to find the right content and there's just not enough of it.
You have to search YouTube.
You can't find your exact level.
You can't find videos that you're interested in.
I know this method works, but my students didn't have a clear path to follow, so I decided to build that path.
I am so happy to finally announce the launch of Sprout.
