Hey, Cody.
Want to hear a story?
Yes, I do.
Can I please help tell it to... Yes, listen close.
Let's imagine and rhyme.
It's Cocomelon Storytime!
What you doing out here on the porch, Cody?
It was too loud inside, Daddy.
Pickles was purring and meowing and scratching her toys.
Do you hear her?
I do.
That reminds me of an old Yiddish story.
It's called The Not Quite Quiet Cottage.
There once was a farmer who lived in a cottage, and she was a little upset.
Why, Daddy?
Her cottage was noisy.
Everyone who lived there was always being loud, her husband, her children.
Her cat, too, if she's like pickles.
The farmer didn't know what to do, but she knew someone who might.
A wise... Let me guess.
Give me a hint.
They have long ears and go hop, hop, hop.
A wise rabbit.
You guessed it.
The farmer left her noisy cottage to ask the wise rabbit what she should do.
The rabbit took a bite of her carrot.
Munch, munch, munch.
And said, you got a rooster.
We cock-a-doodle-doo. said the farmer.
You got any chickens?
Yeah, we got those too.
And to the farmer's surprise, the wise rabbit said, Well, bring them inside.
The farmer didn't think this sounded like a good idea, but the rabbit was wise.
So the farmer ran home and let in the rooster.
Cock-a-doodle-doo!
And the chickens.
Bark, bark, bark!
Welcome, rooster and chickens.
You don't sound quiet to me.
But the rabbit knows best, so I guess we'll see.
Uh, Daddy, did bringing in those animals make the farmer's cottage more quiet?
No, it didn't.
I knew it.
It made the cottage louder.
Oh, yes.
The chickens were flap, flap, flapping their wings.
The farmer's kids were chasing them.
And the farmer's husband was trying to keep the rooster from flying up the chimney.
You get down from there, please.
The farmer returned to the wise rabbit and said, Hey, your idea didn't work.
Something like that.
But the wise rabbit just took a bite of her carrot.
Munch, munch, munch.
And said, You got any cows?
Yes, we move.
I mean, do.
What about horses?
Yeah, we got those too.
Well...
Bring them inside.
No!
They'll be so loud.
Just like the rooster and chickens.
The farmer thought the same thing, Cody.
But the rabbit was wise.
So the farmer ran home and let in the cows.
And the horses.
Welcome, cows and horses.
You don't sound quiet to me.
But the rabbit knows best, so I guess we'll see.
Let me guess.
The farmer's cottage got even louder.
You're right.
The chickens were pecking at the cows' tails.
The farmer's kids were riding the horses around the living room.
Whee!
And the farmer's husband was still trying to keep the rooster from flying up the chimney.
The farmer realized her cottage went from not quite quiet to really, really loud.
So she marched back to the rabbit and said, I came to you for help, but you've done the reverse.
I wanted things to be different and they are, but they're worse.
Wise rabbit took a bite of her carrot.
Munch, munch, munch.
And said, send all the animals back outside.
So the farmer returned to her cottage and out went the horses.
Out went the cows.
Out went the chickens.
Wait!
What about the rooster?
Oh, he left too.
But he went out the chimney.
Soon the only ones left in the cottage were the farmer and her family.
And when her children started running around and her husband started sweeping the rooster's feathers out of the chimney, the cottage was a little noisy.
But the farmer was happy.
My cottage is not quite quiet, but I love it.
It's not as noisy as it was with all the animals.
Exactly.
This was way better than before.
And even if it was a little noisy, you know what the cottage sounded like to the farmer?
What?
It sounded like home.
The end.
Come here, Pickles. and purr in my ear as loud as you want.
We heard a story.
Yes, it's true.
And I helped tell it, too.
We listened, imagined, and made some rhymes for Cocomelon Storytime.
