Farmer Ben comes every day to count how many eggs lie in the hay.
She has laid two eggs today.
Listen, listen, listen, it's rhyme time.
Our rhyme is about another hen with different coloured chicks.
How many colours can you find in the rhyme?
Listen.
Chock, chock, chock.
Good morning, Mrs Hen.
How many chickens have you got?
Madam, I have ten.
Four of them are yellow, four of them are brown and two of them are speckle red.
The nicest in the town.
Listen, listen, listen, it's story time.
Today's story is all about a little red hen and her friends.
A sleepy cat, a dozy duck and a snoozy goose.
Shhh!
Listen, listen.
The story's called The Little Red Hen.
The Little Red Hen.
Once upon a farmyard time there was a little red hen who had three great friends.
Unfortunately, they were all very lazy.
There was a sleepy cat, a dozy duck and a very snoozy goose.
Now one day, when the little red hen was pecking in the farmyard, she found some grains of wheat.
Let's plant this wheat straight away.
Who will help me today?
Too sleepy for that, cried Cat with a meow.
Too dozy, tough luck, yawned Duck with a wah.
And the snoozy goose just sighed.
They were all much too lazy to help.
I'll do it then, said the little red hen.
So that's what she did.
As time passed, the wheat grew tall and golden yellow.
The little red hen looked at it and said, Oh, let's cut this fine wheat straight away.
Who will help me today?
Too sleepy for that, cried Cat.
Too dozy, tough luck, yawned Duck.
And Snoozy Goose just sighed.
Oh.
They were all much, much too lazy to help.
I'll do it then, said the little red hen.
So that's what she did.
Next, the little red hen then wanted to grind the wheat into flour.
She needed to take it to the miller.
So she said, Let's take this wheat to the miller straight away.
Who will help me today?
Too sleepy for that, cried Cat.
Too dozy, tough luck, yawned Duck.
And Snoozy Goose just sighed.
They were all much, much, much too lazy to help.
I'll do it then, said the little red hen.
So that's what she did.
Later that day the little red hen returned to the farmyard with a sack of flour that the miller had made.
The little red hen decided to use the flour to make some bread.
So she said, Let's make some fresh bread straight away.
Who will help me today?
Too sleepy for that, cried Cat.
Too dozy, tough luck, yawned Duck.
And Snoozy Goose just sighed.
They were all still much, much, much too lazy to help.
I'll do it then, said the little red hen.
So that's what she did.
Eventually, the smell of fresh bread drifted out of the oven and into the farmyard.
Past Sleepy Cat, who woke up with a.
Past Dozy Duck, who woke up with a, And past Snoozy Goose, who woke up with a.
The three animals followed the delicious smell to the kitchen.
Then they peered round the door to see their little red hen putting a tasty loaf of bread on the table, hot from the oven.
Let's eat this fresh bread straight away.
Who will help me today?
I'll do that, cried Cat, leaping up with a meow.
Me too, said Duck, waddling over with a quack.
Snoozy Goose craned his long neck and sighed.
The little red hen smiled.
Well, dear cat and goose and duck, all I can say is no, tough luck.
And the little red hen ate all the delicious bread herself with a...
But we wanted some bread, the lazy friend said.
So the little red hen went into the farmyard and found some more grains of wheat.
She gave some to cat, some to duck and some to goose.
Plant these yourselves then, said the little red hen.
And so that's what they did.
Our last song today is about the things the little red hen did in the story.
It's called This is the Way We Plant the Seed.
Join in and sing along with me.
This is the way we plant the seed.
Plant the seed.
Plant the seed.
This is the way we plant the seed to bake our bread in the morning.
This is the way we cut the wheat.
Cut the wheat.
Cut the wheat.
This is the way we cut the wheat to bake our bread in the morning.
This is the way we grind the wheat Grind the wheat, grind the wheat This is the way we grind the wheat To bake our bread in the morning This is the way we knead the dough, knead the dough, knead the dough This is the way we knead the dough to bake our bread in the morning To bake our bread in the morning Maybe next time you eat a sandwich or have some toast you can remember all the hard work that went into making the bread Join me again soon when we can listen and play together.
Bye!
Listen, listen, listen.
