Welcome to ABC Story Sisters, a storytime podcast for kids and kids at heart.
I'm your host, Alexa, here with my sisters Bristol and Charlotte.
Say hi, girls.
Hi.
Each episode will bring you a new chapter from a classic children's book.
And this story is extra special because it's our daddy's favorite, The Jungle Book.
Charlotte, do you remember where our story left off?
Mowgli and Bagheera had a close call with Ka the snake.
That's right.
It sure seems like this duo could use a friendly face.
Maybe they'll meet a friend today.
Well, there's only one way to find out.
Are we ready to jump back into our story, girls?
Yes!
Chapter 3, The Dawn Patrol.
After a close call with Ka and a restless night's sleep, Bagheera woke up on the wrong side of the tree.
The panther had only one thing on her mind the next morning.
Get the woman cub to the human village.
But as the panther made mental plans, Mowgli's excited streak interrupted her train of thought.
Look, Bagheera!
It's a parade!
Bagheera turned to look as a parade of elephants.
One by one, tails hooked to trunks marched underneath their perch in the tree.
Giving a big cat yawn, Bagheera replied, oh, that.
Clearly unimpressed.
It's just the dawn patrol.
I usually try to be somewhere else at this time.
What's the Dawn Patrol?
Mowgli asked curiously.
They're the elephants of the jungle.
They march in formation, patrolling the same grounds every morning.
But why?
Mowgli continued her questioning.
You could ask them, but I doubt they'd remember.
Bagheera's response trailed off as she realized Mowgli had not waited for her answer.
Instead, she raced down the tree and slipped into formation, unnoticed by the elephant colonel and just behind the smallest elephant in the herd.
Time out.
What's up, squirt?
Can we act out our story now, Alexa?
Gosh, it's a little early for that, don't you think?
Yeah, I didn't even get to interrupt her yet, Charlotte.
In that case, let's do it.
Hey!
Well, I couldn't wait, because today we have a whole herd of friends here to help us play the part of the Dawn Patrol.
Say hello to our neighbors and our BFFs, Matilda, Abbott, and Hazel.
Hi, guys!
Hi!
Can you help us out by playing the part of the Dawn Patrol?
Yes!
Hazel, you can play the part of Ellie, the baby elephant.
Awesome!
Avett, you can play the part of Ellie's dad, the elephant colonel.
Cool!
And Matilda, you can play the part of the patrol leader.
Thanks, Alexa.
Is everybody ready to get started?
Yes!
Then let's get to it.
Abbott, will you do the honors?
A is for action.
Four, one, mark.
Pop, two, three, four.
Pick it up, two, three, four.
Hi there.
I'm Mowgli.
What's your name?
I'm Ellie.
What are you doing?
We're marching.
Can I do it too?
Sure.
Just do what I do.
But don't talk in rank.
Why?
Silence in the ranks.
See?
Sorry.
Hey, I think I've got it.
That's it!
You're doing great!
Company!
Hot!
Prepare for inspection.
Dress up that line, stragglers.
Who's that?
That's my pops.
I mean, the Colonel.
He sounds important.
Pull in those tails.
Trunks to the sky.
Psst, he's almost here.
Stick your nose up.
Like this?
Perfect.
And what is this?
A new recruit?
I say!
What has happened to your trunk?
Hey!
You bonked my nose!
Your nose?
Why, you're not an elephant.
Traitor!
No, this will not do.
I'll have no traitors in my patrol.
But Pa!
What is it, Allie?
She's not a traitor.
She's my friend.
Your friend?
Impossible.
She's not an elephant.
So?
She's a... Hmm.
I know the word.
I just forget what it's called.
Perhaps I can explain.
Who are you?
I'm Bagheera.
We've met many times, Colonel.
That's impossible.
An elephant never forgets.
Yes, you said that last time, too.
Oh, do get on with it.
This is not an elephant, Colonel.
This is Mowgli, a woman cub.
Precisely what I said.
A woman cub.
Treason!
It's not treason.
Just a misunderstanding.
You see, I'm the woman cub's escort.
I'm taking her to the human village.
I see.
Forever?
Forever.
Good.
We'll see about that.
Such disrespect.
Are you sure you have this under control?
Um, uh, it's on the tip of my tongue.
Whatever your name was.
It's Bagheera, and you have my word, Colonel.
To the human village she goes.
Let's hope so, Begonia.
Remember, an elephant never forgets.
I'm sure.
Bagheera sounds pretty determined to get Mowgli to the human village.
Could think she's not an elephant.
Or she'd forget where she was going.
Thanks for playing podcast with us everyone.
You gave quite the memorable performance.
