Welcome to ABC Story Sisters.
A storytime podcast for kids and kids at heart.
I'm your host, Alexa, here with my sisters, Bristol and Charlotte.
Say hi, girls.
Hi.
Each episode will bring you a new chapter from a classic children's book.
And this story is extra special because it's our daddy's favorite, The Jungle Book.
Girls, do you remember what Mowgli was up to when we left her?
She was about to become Ka's supper.
Do you think Mowgli will get away, Alexa?
I don't know, but I'm as eager to find out as you are.
Are we ready to get started, girls?
Yes!
Chapter 8, Birds of a Feather.
Mowgli was stirred from her sleep by the sound of muffled voices.
She looked down to find Kaa and Shere Khan talking at the base of the tree.
She wondered what they were saying, but she knew she had no time to waste.
She had to get out of there and quick.
In the densely wooded jungle she could swing effortlessly from branch to branch, making a clean break across the top of the trees.
She traveled fast and far for what seemed like hours, only stopping when she came to a wide clearing where she could travel through the trees no more.
It was then that she realized how much her arms and lungs burned, while her stomach, not to be ignored, growled angrily.
She needed to find some food and water.
She made her way down to the river, effortlessly catching a fish with her bare hands as the deer had shown her so many times.
Yum!
Sushi!
As she rested and ate, lying on the jungle floor and staring up at the trees, she noticed a group of vultures cackling in the branches overhead.
She could tell they were eyeing her, and more specifically, her lunch.
Time out!
What's up, Baby Bee?
Can we act out our story now, Alexa?
Now?
It's a little early, don't you think?
Yeah.
I know, but I'm just so excited because today I have two of my friends here to play podcast.
Say hello to Denver and Vivian.
Hi, guys.
Hi, girls.
Denver and Vivi, do you want to help us out by playing the part of the vultures with Bristol?
Sure.
Charlotte, you can play the part of Mowgli, as usual.
What part will you play, Alexa?
Yeah, Alexa.
I'll play the part of the weary narrator who's happy to have a break.
Is everyone ready to get started?
Let's do it.
Then A is for action.
Hey guys, what do you want to do today?
I don't know.
What do you want to do?
I don't know.
What do you want to do?
Now don't start that again, you two.
Look down there.
A woman cub eating a fish.
I wonder why she's all alone.
I wonder what kind of fish.
Or favorite kind.
A dead one.
Come on now, you two.
Let's see if she'll share.
Shoo, you vultures.
Hey, kid.
Go and bother someone else.
I am not in the mood.
It looks like you don't have a friend in the world.
That's because I don't.
What about a mother or a father?
Nope.
No brothers or sisters?
Nope.
And not a single friend?
Not anymore.
That's so sad.
Terribly sad.
The saddest.
Sad, sad, sad.
Don't start that again, you two.
Can we give you some advice, Cub?
What's that?
All together now.
Birds of a feather flock together.
What does that mean?
It means maybe you just haven't met your flock yet, Cub.
Maybe the best is yet to come.
Or maybe the worst is yet to come.
Ah!
Reese!
Where did you come from?
A magician never reveals her secrets.
Thanks for playing podcast with us, everyone.
You did great.
Will you all come back for our final episode?
Absolutely!
This version of The Jungle Book was written by Jim Rossi and was adapted for this podcast by us, with a little help from our mom.
