Hey everyone, welcome to the English Fluency Journey podcast.
These episodes were created based on our videos on YouTube for those who'd rather listen than watch.
So happy listening. Hope you enjoy our content.
I decided to make this video to go over the difference between many and much. and along the way we'll talk about a lot of, lots of, and plenty of.
Well, it's not difficult at all. The main rule here is that we use many with countable nouns and much with uncountable nouns.
And the next thing to figure out is what are countable and uncountable nouns, right?
Countable nouns are things that we can count that can be used with numbers.
For example, One table, two birds. I have three pairs of jeans, five pants, So we can say many tables, many birds, many pairs of jeans, many pans are scattered on the table.
Uncountable, on the other hand, are things that we can't count And here it gets interesting because for a lot of non-native speakers, it's so confusing.
So these are things that can be used with numbers.
For example, knowledge, advice, money, water, milk, sugar, confidence and etc.
And my advice to you, this is something that I do.
If you're not sure if a noun is countable or unaccountable, Google it. read a couple of articles and you'll see how it is used and you'll figure it out.
For example, we can say, much milk. How much milk can you drink in 30 seconds?
Interesting. Much money. Oh, I don't have much money with me today.
Much sugar. There's too much sugar in this Pepsi Cola.
Much knowledge. There is no such thing as too much knowledge.
An exception is when we put a countable noun before an uncountable noun.
For example, let's take the word water. So we can't count all the water in the world, right?
But we can count bottles and we can say one bottle of water or many bottles of water.
Now we can use a lot of of and lots of with both countable and uncountable nouns.
Also, we can say plenty of something. They are informal but much easier, right?
And they are used most of the time in colloquial English.
Let's see. He has a lot of money in his bank account.
She gave me lots of great advice. Oh, there's plenty of tea left in this mug.
Did you even try it? I hope it was useful, concise and clear enough and stay motivated and positive in your studies.
