Hey, Cody.
Wanna hear a story?
Yes, I do.
Can I please help tell it, too?
Yes, listen close.
Let's imagine and rhyme.
It's Cocomelon Storytime!
Hey, Pickles.
Do you like when I play this song on my xylophone?
Are you playing music for Pickles, Cody?
Yeah, Daddy.
I think she loves it.
It sure sounds like she does.
Actually, that reminds me of a story about another little boy who liked to play music for animals.
The story's based on a folk tale from Brazil.
It's called The Boy and the Accordion.
There once was a little boy named Chico who loved playing his accordion.
Wait, Daddy.
What's an accordion?
It's a musical instrument that you squeeze and stretch and push buttons and keys to make sounds must be fun to play.
It was for Chico.
That's why he played his accordion all the time.
He played when he was happy, he played when he was sad, he played when he was walking and even when he was running.
Wow.
One day, Chico was taking a stroll past a farm when he heard a... A cow!
Right, Cody.
And this cow started following Chico. swishing her tail to the rhythm of his accordion music.
Swish, swish, swish.
Chico loved playing with the cow so much he decided to ask the farmer if he could help her take care of her cows.
What did the farmer say?
Yes, please.
She had so many cows and not enough cow herds.
What's a cow herd?
It's someone who takes care of the cows and leads them in and out of the pasture.
Chico was so happy to be a cowherd, he started playing his accordion.
But when the farmer heard that loud accordion, it made her say, Cowherds don't play accordion.
It could scare the cows away.
Aww.
But Chico loved playing his accordion.
He sure did.
But he really wanted to be a good cowherd.
So he put down his accordion and said, Okay, I'll do what the other cowherds do.
Chico's walk back to the pasture was strangely quiet since he couldn't play his accordion.
But then he heard... The cows were everywhere!
Chico said, Cows in the pasture!
It's time to come in!
What can I try besides my accordion?
He should try doing what the other cowherds were doing.
You're right, Cody.
Chico saw one cowherd throwing a lasso to try and catch the cows.
A lasso is a rope with a loop at the end.
Chico picked up a lasso and gave it a spin.
But he threw it towards a pond and it fell right in.
The cows scattered further away.
Chico didn't think he could herd the cows by throwing a lasso.
He needs to try another way.
Yes.
The sun was going down and the cows needed to get inside the barn.
Chico said, cows in the pasture, it's time to come in.
What can I try besides my accordion?
That's when he saw another cow herd tapping a stick against a tree to gather some cows.
So Chico grabbed a stick himself and... Tap, tap!
But the cows around Chico scattered even further away.
Chico didn't think he could herd the cows by tapping a stick.
Chico wondered if he could ever be a good cow herd and get the cows to follow him.
Cows in the pasture?
I can't bring you in.
All I can do is play my accordion.
So Chico walked out of the pasture and began playing his accordion.
Oh, no, Daddy.
That song sounds sad.
That's because Chico was sad while he was playing it.
He wanted to take care of the cows, but he couldn't get them to follow him into the barn.
That's right.
But do you know what Chico heard at the end of his sad song?
It was the cows.
Yes.
They weren't scared of Chico's accordion music.
They liked it.
They liked it so much they were following Chico.
Were they swishing their tails swish, swish, swish?
They were.
The other cowherds smiled as Chico led all the cows into the barn.
He couldn't throw a lasso or use a stick.
Chico got the cows to follow him by doing his favorite thing, playing the accordion.
He did things his own way.
Yup.
Even the farmer said, I was wrong, Chico.
Play.
When Chico played fast, the cows ran and ran.
When he played like this.
They went hop, hop, hop.
And when Chico put his accordion down, the cows knew to stop.
Chico sounds like a great cow herd.
He really was.
And you know why?
Because he listened to himself and found his own way of herding the cows.
Exactly.
A way that was special to him.
The end.
We heard a story.
Yes, it's true.
And I helped tell it, too.
We listened, imagined, and made some rhymes for Cocomelon Storytime.
