Hey, Story Pirates podcast listeners, Leigh here.
Today we have a very special bonus episode for you featuring another brand new story written by the Story Pirates Creator Club.
That's right, hundreds of kids from around the world came together with myself and Peter to write this story.
And it features everything you need, including donuts, bagels, capybaras, unicorns, the planet and Mars, and Axolotl, and more.
And it's coming up right after a few words for the grownups!
One! I love storytellers!
I'm very different from everybody.
Confusion is the step for curiosity.
Okay, that's a really funny idea.
we have to send that in i just get some joy when i hear other people giggling i believe all the things in that story human beings are just able to create this is only pirates okay everybody here's what's up as you may know every once in a while we invite the entire creator Club to join me and Peter on a Zoom to write a story together.
And hundreds of kids from around the world showed up like I said, and together, we wrote an incredible story about a hotel on Mars that contains some of the most surprising and bizarre creatures you could ever imagine.
And today, you're going to hear a performance of that story.
And PS grown ups, we're doing this thing again on Zoom with me and Peter in April, and it's not too late to get your kids involved, we're gonna write a brand new story together and then adapt it for the podcast, just like in today's episode.
Information on how to join us is in the episode description for today's episode.
So, grownups, check it out and join us.
And without further ado, we now present to you a story by The Story Pirates Creator Club.
Here's The Birth of the Bagel Geologist. Donuts, here on Mars they're all around us.
But where do they come from?
Usually from a store.
But what about ancient donuts?
The kind that can only be found here far beneath the Martian surface.
To find those, you'll need a donut geologist like Jeremy here.
The moustachioed relish your own spider.
Huh, what? Oh sorry, I was just looking at my phone.
Sheesh, I am addicted to this thing.
Jeremy, tell us. What's it like being a doughnut geologist?
Oh, it's great. I spent all day in this cave digging, hoping to find a priceless ancient doughnut, such as the Boston cream crystal, the rainbow metallic doughnut, or the one I've been searching for the longest, the mystical squid -flavored doughnut.
And can you show us how it's done?
Yeah, sure. I just dig like this.
You found one! And if I'm not mistaken, that's the fabled J -doughnut of B - what are you doing?
What? You're eating it.
Oh, shoot, I got distracted by looking at my phone again.
Does this happen often?
Pretty much every time.
Jeremy, why didn't you tell me you were going to be on Martian TV tonight?
Huh? Stop looking at your phone.
Oh, sorry. That phone is a real problem.
Sometimes I think you love technology too much. Of course I do.
That's why I married you, my wild wacky robot.
Ever since we moved to the 38th floor of this hotel… Hotel Martian Madness?
I know what it's called.
You've dreamed of donating rare donuts to that museum for ants on the top floor.
The 39th and a third floor.
But that museum sits empty because you keep eating all the rare donuts.
oh Maya my wild wacky robot you're right starting now i won't be distracted by huh do you hear that what a cabin bar just fell out of our ceiling air vent i am so sorry as you know it's so crowded with cabi baras on the 39th floor that we sometimes get squeezed into the air vents and fall down here to the 38th floor we are all too aware and again i am so sorry I'll just be on my way.
I've had it up to here with those giant rodents flooding into our apartment.
Where are you going?
To the 39th floor. I'll be right back.
Here I am, now to give those capybaras a piece of my mind.
Hey. What? There are thousands of capybaras up there.
There's only one way to deal with this, With my freeze -ray and taco sauce everyone look he's got taco sauce and my freeze -ray He's freezing up And in that moment Jeremy froze as did his mind.
But on the outside, time marched on.
Things changed, evolved, multiplied, until finally, one day, Jeremy awoke.
Huh? What's going on?
It's OK, Jeremy, you've been asleep.
I had the wildest dream.
You're safe and sound now, back on the good old 10 millionth floor.
10 millionth floor?
Who are you? What's going on?
I'm Kira, head of the unicorn caregivers, and this is my daycare.
When I went to sleep, there were only 39 and a third floors in this hotel.
What happened? I'll give you the short version.
Centuries ago, you sprayed all those capybara with taco sauce and then froze them, which started a rapid evolution that turned the capybaras into robot spiders Dripping with taco sauce that all love to wear a capybara masks They multiplied so quickly that we needed to build more floors to house them Oh and also they always stay babies for some reason Because of this hotel Martian madness brought in the greatest caregivers in the universe unicorns Well, this can't be true see for yourself and open the door to the hallway.
I will Hello. We are baby robot spiders with capybara masks.
Will you play with us?
No. As you can see, we need your help, Jeremy.
Why do you need my help?
The prophecy says that one day Jeremy, father of the spiders, will return to go on a great quest to save us all from this hotel's chronic lack of space by seeking out the magical axolotl.
OK. nope i'm out i just want to go back to my apartment and have a peaceful night you mean look at your phone all evening Maya!
you said you'd be right back that was hundreds of years ago but i waited i did that for you now you must do this for me okay fine where do i find this magical axolotl he will find him in the basement Oh, I'll just take the elevator down 10 million floors.
I'll be right back.
That was not quick.
Oh, this is no basement.
It's a mystical donut cave. Imagine Lax -a -lottle.
At your service. This cave is full of the rarest ancient donuts I've ever seen.
You mean like this one?
The mystical squid flavored donut.
Om nom nom. Don't eat it!
I've been looking for that as long as the Boston cream crystal!
You mean this one? Yes!
Oh thank goodness. No!
Stop eating them! What about this one?
The Jane Donut of Doom!
No! Or this one? The epic godly extra hyper donut!
No! Stop! If you keep eating them, then there won't be any left in the museum!
I get it now. You're doing what I used to do.
You've finally learned your lesson.
And now that you're listening, I shall give you some magical advice.
Please, share with me your wisdom!
Here it is. Bagels are better!
I see... Also, hot dogs are not a sandwich. Okay.
Let's put a pin in the hotdog thing, but...
Bagels are better than donuts?
You mean like how being present is better than looking at my phone?
because phones, like doughnuts, only offer passing fulfillment.
Whereas being present with a loved one is much like a bagel, a heartier meal.
Is that what you meant, magic laxolotl?
Uh, sure. Oh, Jeremy, I'm so proud of you.
Maya, I get it now.
Let's move out of that hotel and live down here, where there's room for us and all of our terrifying robot spider children.
Are they our children?
Honestly, I don't know.
But what do you say, my darling robot wife?
I say, get in here, robot spider children.
We love you, father.
Wow, they really are terrifying.
Yes, I love them too.
And I love you. Bring it in, big guy.
Ah, too hard, robot hug.

Hey grown -ups, have you ever found yourself really in need of a sitter but you don't know where to look?
You already texted everyone you know and looking online can be just kind of overwhelming.
I know when I first became a parent I didn't even know where to start with finding a sitter and I really could have used a service like Sitter City.
They have sitters that fit your family, sitters that you can trust, and sitters that kids really like.
It's important to me that sitters know about child development and that they engage with kids using creative play and at Sitter City they really emphasize all of that.
When you open Sitter City you just know you're gonna find someone solid, complete with references and all sorts of impressive credentials.
