Hi, it's Andy here and welcome to RadioHeadspace.
And welcome to Thursdaymorning.
So I don't know if you have children yourself or whether you have nieces or nephews orcousins, whatever it mightbe, but there is a particular time in a char life where they're really dialed into what they would like tobecome.
And I think a lot of that's fed by us asadults.
Youknow, what do you want to be when you'reolder?
I want to be anastronaut.
I want to be a famous football player or kind of whatever it mightbe.
As we've been having thoseconversations, it's struck me kind of how that very often doesn't leave us inlife, the idea ofbecoming, the idea of wanting to be a certainperson.
Infact, we love labels as humanbeings.
I feel like we almost seek them out whether it's through ourcareer, whether it's through our personallife, even sort of in forms of religion or spirituality or whatever that that mightbe.
Infact, even that very wordspirituality.
That is reallyinteresting.
Youknow, in manyways, if you kind of were to dig into that area oflife, we could say it's about sort of lettinggo.
It's about givingup. It's about giving upbecoming, becoming more comfortable withbeing.
Andyet, eventhen, we want to take on this labelof, I'm a very spiritual personor, youknow, I'm really intospirituality.
And I guess in someways, youknow, we could takeit, or that's justsemantics.
If we have an interest in that area of life and it doesn't necessarily feel attuned to a particular religion orfaith, we don't feel affinity withthat.
Then how else do we talk aboutit?
And it's a fairpoint. But at the sametime, I think we want to kind of maybe be wary of carrying these labels too tightly inlife.
Because I think they limitus.
They play into an idea ofbecoming.
They play into an idea of needing to be a certain kind ofperson.
And I don't mindsharing.
I remember when I first went to the monastery to become amonk.
Although I was there to let go ofeverything, labels, identity, the wholelot, I kind of felt like I needed to behave like a monkto, youknow, eveninternally, to think like amonk, to be like a monk when in truth I just needed to show up and bemyself.
And I think as long as we show up with the intention to be present for ourselves and those aroundus, to be kind to ourselves and those aroundus, and to have a sense of openness to ourselves and those aroundus, then really we can't go too farwrong.
We don't need a particularlabel.
We don't have to become someone in order to be thatthing.
It's enough to have the intention and to follow through with thatintention.
I hope there's something that's helpful as you head into your daytoday.
