So I'm going to read a story.
I'd like you to listen and answer these four questions.
You may want to write the questions down if you're listening to the podcast, but you can go back and listen to the story as many times as you want.
So question number one, what started the conversation between the narrator and and the man.
Once more, question number one.
What started the conversation between the narrator and the man?
Number two, what topics did they talk about after the book?
What topics Question number three.
How did the conversation make the narrator feel?
How did the conversation make the narrator feel?
And lastly, question number four.
What can we learn about the power of small talk from this story?
What can we learn about the power of small talk from this story?
Okay, so I'm going to go ahead and read the story.
Once again, you can go back and listen to the story as many times as you want.
I'm not testing you.
Here we go.
Last Friday I was on my way home from work sitting on the train scrolling through my phone.
A man sat down next to me and noticed the book had on my lap.
He smiled and said hey, that's a great book.
I read it last year.
I looked up, smiled back and said oh really, I've just started.
We started chatting about the story, the author and other books we liked.
After a few minutes, the conversation moved on to work, the weather and even the best ramen shops in the area.
It wasn't a deep or serious talk, but it felt easy, just two strangers passing the time pleasantly.
When the man stood up to get off at his stop, he said, Well, nice talking with you.
Have a good evening.
I smiled and said, You too.
That short chat completely changed my mood.
I went from being tired and quiet too relaxed and cheerful.
It reminded me that small talk isn't just empty conversation.
Sometimes it's the little moments that make the day feel more human.
So did you catch all that?
Well, here are the answers.
Question number one.
What started the conversation between the narrator and the man?
The man noticed the book on his lap.
Number two.

And sometimes it's the little moments that make the day feel more human.
How'd you do?
I'd love to know.
I'm going to make the link to the book available in the description.
But here's a little homework for you.
Practice retelling the story in your own words.
And if you want, share with me a time when small talk conversation made your day better.
I'd love to hear it.
All right, guys.
Until next time, this is Mark from MKsEnglish.com wishing you the best of luck.
Take care now.
Bye.
