No matter if you're prepping for your first job, an internship or a summer project.
There are tons of mistakes you can make that will land your resume in the no pile.
But you can easily prevent these with the tools your school has available.
Scan your resume through Big Interview's Resume AI to check if you included all the relevant skills and accomplishments, if your resume will pass a resume screener, and even smaller aspects like your formatting, spelling and grammar.
Let me show you how it works.
The first thing you need to do is log into Big Interview.
Once you're in, you wanna go to resumes and then go to resume AI.
To scan your resume, you have two options.
Option one, you'll get this as an assignment with a code from your university.
If that's the case, Add your code here and click Join, Option 2.
If you weren't given a code, simply click Scan Resume to get started.
Then you'll see a scoring guide which is like a set of instructions and requirements your school specified when they created the assignment.
Essentially, these are the criteria that your resume will be scored against.
Things like how long your resume is, grammar and punctuation structure, format or first impression.
You can also upload a job description and then you'll get to see if it would pass a real employer resume scanner, the ATS applicant tracking systems.
This part is super helpful and it's where many students make mistakes.
If you add a job description, you can customize your resume for that particular position.
Your resume will be more tailored to real life requirements, including helping you pick keywords employers will be looking for based on the role you're applying for.
If you know a real job you would apply for, you can just take the job description from the actual job they advertised.
If you don't, you can go to O-Net and pick a sample job description from their database.
Then, you just need to upload your resume and click scan.
You'll then see your overall score either bronze, silver or gold and results for specific areas readability credibility ATS, fit and format.
Use the button on the banner to view detailed feedback on how to improve each of your resume sections.
Your resume will be on the right, and then on the left, you'll see the feedback.
It covers everything from grammar and punctuation to specific instructions on how to improve your resume content to better match the job you're applying for.
Don't worry if you don't get gold in the first try.
Go through the feedback, make the corrections, and rescan until you get gold.
You can run five scans a day, so if your first score is bad, you can use the feedback to immediately improve it.
That's it!
Happy scanning and good luck in your job search!
