Greetings. Hi there and welcome to another glorious episode of Radio Headspace.
My name is K. Sungar and it is indeed Friday.
For today's episode, I'll be talking about one of my mindful moments with love and romance, specifically the love story or love journey of my partner, Cheryl and I.
So as I write this, I'm going on 22 years of marriage and year 26 of being in a committed relationship.
For those of you who have been married for many years, y 'all know that this journey has its ups and downs and everything in between, but I'm going to keep it completely happy today and talk about how it all got started.
When I was a senior in high school, we went to pick up my sister from college in North Carolina.
Big shout out to North Carolina Central University, HBCU at its best.
Eagle pride. I still remember the moment when my sister said, this is my good friend Cheryl.
I distinctly remember a sort of electricity or chill overcoming and yes, it was her obvious beauty and her Southern twang in her speech and also just her overall aura.
I was truly captivated.
I later asked my sister about her and discovered that she had a boyfriend.
Boo. So I didn't really sweat it.
I just went ahead and finished my last year of high school and prepared to start college in the fall at the same university as my sister and Cheryl.
So the summer approached and as fate would have it, Cheryl and I were in the same summer internship program.
I was so excited, especially since I knew for my sister that Cheryl's relationship with her boyfriend was all but over.
As our internship came to an end, my sister invited Cheryl to come to New York City for a week to hang out.
Again, I was filled with excitement.
As it turned out, my sister was working all day at her own internship and she asked me to keep Cheryl company and entertain her and that's exactly what I did.
I gave Cheryl the super duper extended Ksunga New York City tour of love.
We hit up just about every museum, every tourist attraction, so many bookstores and boutiques, and we just had an overall great time.
Towards the end of the week, I took her to the top of the Empire State Building.
During that trip, I was always cracking jokes and on this particular joke when Cheryl laughed, I just embraced her.
I don't even know why I did it.
It just, it just felt natural and before you know it, I felt her kiss me on my neck.
She just said in her southern drawl with a sly grin, you made me do that.
All I could do is laugh and hug her some more.
We made it official in the fall when we returned to school and the rest is history.
We are now a happy family of four and I am so grateful for the summer internship of 96.
So I want you to pause and take a moment to think about your mindful moments that have to do with love.
And it doesn't have to be romantic love.
It can be the love you share with a family member or friend.
How do you feel when you reflect on those memories?
In mindfulness, we talk a lot about being in the present moment, but reflecting on these happy times is also valuable.
It reminds us of all that life has to offer and who doesn't want to relish in the feeling of love.
And if you like to try a guided meditation on love, the Headspace app has a great practice called loving others.
All right. So that concludes my week of mindful moments.
And please, if you have any questions about relationships or anything else pertaining to mindfulness, meditation, and life in general, please send them to my DMs on Instagram at Kaye Gisgombay.
Have a healthy and happy Friday.
