Headspace Studio Hi, I'm Samantha and welcome to Radio Headspace and to Tuesday Morning.
So a little while ago, I checked out an audio book from the library called Letters to a Young Poet by Rainier Rilke.
And this book consisted of correspondences between himself and a poet on topics related to his writing rituals, relationships, and about universal themes like love and marriage.
And there was one quote in this book that really resonated with me, and I'm going to read it now for you.
I really love this quote.
I even put it in my wedding vows.
I think it resonates with me because often in our relationships, we think we have someone pinned down.
If we're married 5, 10, or even 20 years, we may think we already have learned everything there is to know about our partner.
But Rilke urges us to love the expanse between us so that we can continue to renew our curiosity.
We continually remind ourselves that we're always growing and evolving and to see our partners with a beginner's mind perspective that's free of judgment.
This makes me think about my own relationship.
I've been married for 5 years and we've always made an effort to have fun and stay curious about one another.
It's in the fabric of our relationship.
One of our favorite things to do is to invent games.
We do it on long drives or if we're out to dinner.
And it's a simple way to stay curious about each other.
So for example, one recent game I invented involves simply naming random things and then asking each other if it made us more or less happy about life.
So, for example, I'd throw out something like the word coffee or the color green, and then he would tell me if it made him more or less happy about life.
And it sounds really simple and really silly, but I encourage you to try it with your partner.
And the answers might surprise you.
And it is fun. It encourages us to do our best to empathize with each other but acknowledge that we'll never fully know each other's experience of reality.
This can be a heart -opening realization and help us remember the yearning we all have to be seen and motivate us to want to see each other deeply.
So I'll leave it there for today.
Thanks so much for listening and I look forward to seeing you back here tomorrow.

And we made it reusable so other Capital One dev teams can also implement digital pass services.
