Hello, everybody, my name is Coach Shane and welcome to easy English expressions.
You and me every day.
Come on, let's master English.
Hello everybody welcome back to Daily Easy English expression the podcast. Today's expression is a very good expression that I think all of you know.
however even though probably 90 % of you have heard this expression me coat shame as an American and 47 years old in my entire life.
I have never used this expression Now yes, it is an English expression I don't recall ever hearing my mom say it, or my dad say it, but it's an English expression.
So, I'm not afraid of teaching it.
Do I recommend you use it?
Why not? It's a funny expression.
It is, it's raining cats and dogs!
dogs. It is raining—R -A -I -N—rain.
It's raining cats and dogs.
It's raining cats and dogs.
So from the sky right now, it's raining.
Rain rain rain. Cats and dogs are are falling from the skies?
That's horrible. That's terrible.
Yeah, we have this expression.
And what it means is it's raining a lot.
A huge amount of rain.
Why cats and dogs? I don't know.
This is my guess. And we have to think in the stereotype, you know, like on TV and a cartoon and an animation.
do cats and dogs do they like each other are they friends?
no! on TV no they're not cats, dogs are chasing each other they hate each other they're very loud very loud and that's the idea if it's raining a lot it's very loud it's so loud it's It's like cats and dogs are fighting That's my guess.
I don't know once again.
I am familiar with the expression.
I've known it all my life I don't know where I first learned it.
I don't believe I've ever heard it But every English as a second language student seems to know this expression And I'm sure many many many Americans do use it It's just I've never heard it Maybe because I live in the desert.
Let's check out the dialogue.
Hey mom, how are you?
Who is this? Your son, Shane.
Oh, I'm fine. That's good.
Why is it so loud there?
It's raining cats and dogs.
There you go. It's so loud.
it's raining cats and dogs.
Lots of rain. Why does my mother seem like she's from New York?
She's not from New York.
I don't know. I like the New York accent.
New York, New York, New York.
Big city of dreams but everything in New York ain't always what it seems. Sorry about that.
It's raining cats and dogs.
So how is the weather where you are.
Now like I said just a minute ago I live in the desert.
Oh yes I do want to leave but for now I'm in the desert and unbelievably yesterday it was raining.
Cats and dogs? No not really it wasn't a heavy rain but anyway it was raining.
Desert Rain. Oh, I love Desert Rain.
Not only is it a great song by Sting, but it's absolutely lovely.
A little bit of rain.
Oh, so nice. So hopefully tomorrow I can go out and take some pictures and if I see some Desert Flowers, I'll be sure to share them with you all.
Probably on my Facebook page.
