Discussion keeps the worldturning.
This isRoundtable. There was a time when people used to make public announcements aboutmarriage, death, orapologies, ornewspapers.
Today, not everybody reached thenewspaper, but more and more people travelled by the subway and studying that advertisements can be a viable pastime before the trainarrives.
Recently, the subways in the number of Chinese cities have started taking requests from individuals as compared to common practice of two Bbusinesses.
Hello, I'm Limeing and this isRoundtable.
Today with New Holding andLee, let's find out what unique advertisements are being created and showcased in the subways inGuangzhou,Hubei,Hangzhou, andChongzhou.
Before we dive into thediscussion, let me do a quick quiz here on New Holding andLee, do you ever pay any attention to the advertisements insubways?
Yes. Ofcourse. Ido. Name the most influential advertisement you can thinkof.
I only see the beautiful faces and maybe sometimes theproduct, but it does not leave a mark in mymind.
I have toadmit. Actually one online tourismagency, they just got their advertisement on Subway Lime 1 here in Beijing and it got my attention because I think their business is sort ofdeclining.
So I'm really happy for them to be shown on sort of this publicplaces.
Now I understand why you're not naming thatbrand.
Yeah, it's just a rathernod.
Okay, I'm quite interested and intrigued by the advertisement on influential performances like concerts that have been staged in subways and there's this horse headfiddle, afiddle, a veryinfluential, very famous person who's staged his advertising in Subway Lime 1 where we exit things in bubbles andstations.
It's sofair. I don't take this alwaysthere.
It's so you are notwinning.
I'll be very questioned tome.
Okay. The other influential advertisement that I've paid attention to is something that the Subway media business that theydo.
I mean a few years back they used to do thisrestaurant, investigation kind of mediacontent, the videocontent.
You notice this prettygirl, younger, who would go into different kinds of restaurants like Hot Pals andbarbecues.
You notice her overtime gradually become a more normalplan, youknow, gaining a bit more weight and until eventually the show wasdropped.
I rememberone. There is the one that's fighting against public smoking and I've seen some very influential figures dressed in relatively official dressing and staying there for quite a while and saying that you should not smoke inpublic.
That's the one Iremember.
That's like publicinterest.
It has to do with commercialinterest.
But still leaves the mark in people'sminds.
So you arewinning. You are paying attention to the advertising in Subways even though you barely have time to takethem.
That's thepoint. So the thing is easy to draw the conclusion that since a long timeago, I mean we usually see very influential brands like DingTalk, which is an instant messaging application Alibaba develops for office workers and then oftentimes we see certainplatforms, gamingplatforms, various businessescompanies.
So it's usually the businesses that would try and spend the money to have themselves showcased at subway advertisementslots.
But are you aware of any individuals trying to brag about themselves or introducethemselves?
Don't saybrag. Present themselves in a very positive light at these advertisingslots.
No, actually I haven't really seen any ofthem.
Would you dothat? Of coursenot.
I'msorry, but who would just pay for embarrassingyourself?
Not even to celebrate the 10 year anniversary ofmarriage.
No, like friends circle is enough forme.
So I don't really want that attention aswell.
So that's not really mything.
You're quite the intro ofthat.
I didn't expect this being ableto, I mean a viable for individualadvertising.
I would alwayseven. You would assume they're veryexpensive.
I would assume they're very expensive and if I see someone's face that I do not recognize being that they're not any kind ofcelebrity, they're not any kind of movie stars trying to do advertising for a certainbrand, I would assume they are advertising forsomething.
I would assume if I scan the QR code instead of their personalinformation, I would jump into a certain website advertising a certain product or service forme.
So it's in mymind, I never imagine these people I see in the subway are actually advertising forthemselves.
I didn't even know it'sviable.
So advertisement isadvertisement.
You just don't really pay for this as fornothing, you wereopinion.
Yes. I didn't realize they can actually do it for themselves celebrating something or basically putting up an advertisement for the person as theproduct.
Like asking for ajob, asking for a significantother, but actually that is what's happening in a lot of places includingGuangzhou, right?
Yeah, because recently actually since thisJanuary, the Guangzhou subway really started to allow individuals to put up advertisement and this is a new business of this subway company but not really a new thing here in China because subway stations in many cities includingBeijing,Guangzhou, Nanjing and Hubei now all allow individuals to put upadvertisement.
And youknow, at the very start inGuangzhou, some internetcelebrities, they tried thisservice.
Ofcourse, they want that attention from thepublic.
So they were just to make and post some interesting videos on social mediaplatforms, showing how they're doingthis, youknow, put up their personal advertisements in someways.
Andlater, there are also more people joining thisteam.
Forexample, like post their resumes and wishes to get employmentopportunities.
And also there are people who are posting maybe a love photo between themselves and also theirpartner, yes, celebrating their anniversary something likethat.
And themeantime, there arealso, I would say some youngpeople, youknow, trying to search for their partner or soulmates through suchadvertisements, youknow, trying to maybe invite more peopleto, youknow, bedifferent.
Bedifferent.Yeah, you can call itthat.
Yeah, Imean, so you see that's just a very interesting phenomenon happening here inChina.
And according to some people whoare, youknow, actually putting up this personaladvertisement, it actually worksbecause, youknow, he was trying to look for some employmentopportunities.
And after actually within one week after he put up his resume in a subway station in Hove and Enhuiprovince, hegot, he got really contacts by many enterprises outthere.
So he think it's far more efficient than putting his CV or resumes on sort of recruitmentplatform.
So it's just a very interesting phenomenon andtrend.
See people do payattention.
And also people are reallynice.
Not only did he receivesome, all the branches from different companies offering him at least an opportunity tointerview, he has also received some kind suggestions from someone who is working as an HR saying that you can actually improve your CV and make him moreattractive.
And also he had received letters fromcollege, from some collegestudents, college studentssaying, I am also working on finding ajob.
I understand what you're doing here and he had in turn given some very kind suggestions to this college graduates because he is only betweenjobs.
So he had the experience ofinterviewing, of securing a job and he was being very encouraged to this younggraduates.
So the kindness exchanged among humanbeings.
That isamazing. I do think when we complain about in this modernworld, our reach of communication is getting larger and larger because of the development oftechnology, but ourfriend, circle is getting smaller andsmaller.
I cannot meet newpeople.
I don't know where to know newfriends.
I feel soalone.See, this is what you're supposed todo.
Put up a net advertisement in asubway.
All of a sudden 400 people would reach you and you will stop complaining about having a smaller and smaller kind of friends orcall.
Here's a very interesting phenomenon and I believe that all the while we have always been thinking inside thebox.
Imean, the kind of assumption about the cost could be afactor.
But thenagain, I think why is it nobody has thought about putting their own individual advertisements in public places like the subway before veryrecently?
Because how is itdifferent?
I don't think personality is issue here because we are living in the age of socialmedia.
I doubt anybody out there don't already have their Weibo or Facebook or WeChataccount.
I doubtanybody, I doubt whether there is a significant portion of the population who used WeChat but refused to post anything on the timeline for everybody tosee.
What I'm driving at is already we are revealing pretty much a lot about ourselves on social media and we can assume that we reach more people than we do when we put out advertisements insubways.
Why is it that people have been willing to present themselves on social media but have been reluctant to present themselves at subway stations or other publicplaces?
This is a very interestingphenomenon.
Other than the estimate about the cost that could be affected hereobviously.
I was thinking actually this isn't really that different from social media platforms or social media community onlinegroups.
It's just a different way that it's sort of like a social media networking platform that is more visible in real life because all the examples you just mentioned actually those people are putting this sort of personal advertisement in subways to also to get more networking which is also something you can fulfill or you can do in on social media platforms in the virtualworld.
But it's different in the way that people want to do it in a way that is more visible in reallife.
Because on social media platforms especially your personal social media account your target audience are somehow morelimited.
You still got your resume or your photos being seen byacquaintances.
But in thiscase. It is visible by everybody who goes on the same social mediaplatforms.
Yeah. I mean on social media platforms that are more open to the public of course is pretty much the same thing but I think for your WeChat or for your like more personal account actually you don't really got this random or large amount of people or attention because for me like subway advertisement is somehow like more random and it's also more risky for me because you you may get attention from people you don't want to do the connectionwith.
So that's what argument forme.
Well I don't know I mean when it comes to putting up a advertisement subway you do not have to stand in the odds of big data anymore because big data stop controlling one which let's say which one screen that your advertisement pop upto.
It's purely in a publicplace.
It's somewhere that it's outthere.
It's outthere. It's a bit of a party is able to see it and you can even observe people's people's reaction well what kind of people would actually go there and scan your QRcode.
Is this some people wrotethat?
Itis. I mean it's doing it's kind of like personalexperiment, social experiment and we do have some people who are putting up their advertisement in these subways to every day go check out theiradvertisement.
They wear a mask they will stand in front of their own personal ad with the same poster in the ad and trying to see who would come up and talk tothem, who would scan the QRcode, who would stop and stare at the advertisement a littlebit.
It's a fun thing todo. I think you know that's why I think you know most of our doing is just for fun but not only for their you know literal purposes because for example if you're looking for a partner or if you're looking for aspouse, it put up yourself on a subwayadvertisement, you will actually attractpeople.
Ohyes, you will because that shows a part of very important personality ofyours.
You're a bold person and that'sit.
You are a boldperson. You are willing to takeexperiments.
You're willing to do new things and take adventures and you're willing to talk to strangers and if someone check all those boxes and willing to talk toyou, might be your somade.
You never know so you might be attracting the sametype.
Exactly. Which isbraver.
Posting on social media about oneself or presenting oneself in a subwayadvertisement.
I think it again takes morecourage.
Of course subway forme.
Really it's a random group of audience and for me like social media is still something that you cancontrol.
I mean if you don't want to make your personalinformation, being too open to a lot of people or especially a lot ofstrangers, you can still like try not to disclose them on social media platforms which are more open forexample, waybore or little red book which don't really constrain your content to like youracquaintances.
But I think for this subwayagain.
I think you can't really control who will be seeing your advertisement and the word kind of response yougot.
I don't really think it's a good idea for you to find a new job if you are still in a position and put them in asubway.
Yeah, I think it's different because definitely the cost of putting up a sign in subway is going to be a little bithigher.
But in the meantime you can observe what'shappening, you can see people's reaction which is superfun.
It's like the murderer coming back to the murder scene with a key and she can becaught.
But a much nicerversion.
And also in the meantime you are only putting yourself up forstrangers.
You do not have to think about the quote unquote embarrassment you might encounter with aacquaintances.
Soyeah, I don't think there is a comparison between which one's bald or it's more like their differenttype.
And for those of you who really enjoy this and think that putting up asign, putting up an advertisement in a subway is just notenough.
Here is another option that I would like to provide to you that is actually you can pick a day you'd like your photo to be featured in TimesSquare.
You pay $150 and you see your photo featured every hour for 15 seconds throughout theday.
And if you spend $1,200 you can actually pick sevendays, any seven days that you want and get your photo on yourbillboard.
And you will get an email confirmation with a time slot to see your picture at least one day before it doesn't playdate, you can see your pick in person by going to the billboard in person by using our while the live streaming feature so you can actually stand in Times Square and see yourself being live streamed onto the hugebillboard.
So that is another option if you really enjoy this and I think subway is just not goodenough.
It's not internationalenough.
Try TimesSquare.Well, while I admit is an internationally famous landmark at the TimesSquare, I don't think it is any comparison to let's say a very breezy subway station in downtown Beijing because think of the people that pass through thattraffic.
Imean, it's certainly more influential in this subway station inBeijing.
But it's got other connotations if you get to your images uploaded to that huge screen at TimesSquare.
That's forsure. Andalso, I don't really think it's just a have to be personal because I also see some people are sort of advertising for their hometown cities where hometowns to get morepeople, maybe just invite more people to come to my hometown and actually this is a very beautiful town or very beautiful city that deserves more appreciation andrecognition.
So that's also when you can also like put up like a more a code and code personal advertisement but for them personalpurposes.
It's one thing to want to put ourselves out in the open at subway advertisementslots.
But it's another thing for us to appreciate and enjoy the stuff that people put outthere.
And do you think that is a good idea that more people are going out there and making themselves known to the generalpublic?
I'll be in a underground subwaystation.
I enjoy it quite somuch.
Actually I was thinking about the question liming raceearlier.
That is why more and more people are willing to doso.
And I feel like it's because social media is making this authoritative kind of public speaking lessauthoritative.
We stoprespect, quote unquoterespect, or honor or intimidated by this public speech rights somuch.
We realize that as long as we wish to we can make announcement aboutourselves, about the things weenjoy, about ourpaths, about our hometown and we are not intimidated by itanymore.
And as someone who always vote for people's voicing their opinion in publicplaces, making their veils about the world loud and clear to the entireworld.
I feel that if I pass through a subway station and I see someone celebrating their 10-yearanniversary, I would say it's sweet and I would send them my bestwishes.
Hope that they can have a next best 10years.
And it's a very good source of income for subways that are mostly run by ticket sales and government subsidies tosustain, so I think it's a good idea to get more people interested in presenting themselves at advertisement slots in subwaystations.
You're listening to Round Table Up Next MotivationalMonday.
Welcome to our motivation of Monday's and this week this begin with NewHoly.
Sure, actually my motivational Monday is inspired by a recent novel that I wasreading.
Anovel? A novel I was reading and I see this main character striving for a better life and onher, well actually during her journey she also was exposed to not only the kindness of people but also sometimes someslender, some rumors and I realize that if weare, well most of us are living in thesociety, it is possible that you would receive a lot of kindness and love from strangers from acquaintances but it is also possible that people might talk and their talk can sometimes be a little bitvicious, be a little bitunkind, full of suspicion and full of speculation that are on chew and at that time we should also have the ability and have the wisdom to deal with all these in themeantime.
So my quote this weeksays, when you facecriticism, slender orrumors, stay calm andcomposed.
Don't let their words define yourworth.
I think it's something very important I want to shout out to all of you who arelistening.
In life it is impossible to only receive kindness and when you hearrumors, when you hear people's unkind words that you find impossible to explain because they're nottrue.
How can you explain or how can you make a statement about something that isuntrue?
You cannot do that to all the haters outthere.
So in that case I would encourage you to first stay calm andcomposed, then seek truth if you can but also focus on your innercircle.
If you cannot explain who you are to those who hate to spread rumors and sometimes you can tell yourself rumors are carried by haters spread by fools and accepted byidiots.
And also you can communicate with those you care aboutopenly, you can let your action speak instead of your words and you can practiceself-care, ignore and moveon.
And also you can learn from the accident and grow and always tell yourself everyone makes their owncomments.
That's how rumors getstarted.
So don't be that quote unquote everyone but also be true to yourself and be okay with rumors outthere.
I call that quote with something that a wise man more than two thousand years ago named Confuciussaid, isn't it generally to not be angry when people misunderstandyou?
Put yourup,Bo-Yin,Bo-Yin,Jin-Zi-Hu.
There yougo,Lee, what do you have forus?
Youknow, stay calm is also something I want to convey in today's motivational Monday and my call is about making good decisions and it's from Robert Schueller who is an American motivationalspeaker.
It goes likethis. Never cut a tree down in wintertime.
Never make an active decision in a lowtime.
Never make your most important decisions when you are in your worstmoods.
Wait, bepatient, the storm willpass, the spring willcome.
And I think the takeaway is that of course never make decisions when you experience emotional and active feeling and I think it's also very pragmatic suggestion for those who are considering making important decisions in your life because I would say our life are faced or composed of numerous decisions on a dailybasis, big orsmall, from choosing what toeat, what towear, to who you are spending the rest of your life with and what kind of workplace and co-workers you would like to staywith.
But I think making decisions is never an easy thing because it's just too difficult to make the good decisions where there isn't really never the best decisions outthere.
And moreimportantly, the consequences of your decision arehuge.
Sometimes they can change the course of yourcareer, your personal life for a period of time or evenforever.
So that's why I think it's really important to tell people outthere, includingmyself, when it comes to making important decisions in yourlife, never make them when you are tooemotional.
And in mostcases, especially avoid that dark day because on that day you would just make decisions to avoidanger, pain, frustration and sadness and sometimes also avoid the gooddecisions.
I fear you Liying is important for us to be aware of what we are going through emotionally and mentally and sometimes it's brave to ask for help when you feel like you neededit.
And this week I have a quote from a novel that I'm currently reading is called Ordinary World by Lu Yao and it's a novel setting China in the 10 years from 1975 to 1985 and it depicts the everyday struggles of individuals with greatdetail, deep thoughts and strongcompassion.
In 1991 the novel won their Mao Dian literature prize which is one of the most prestigious literature prizes in China awarded every four years and the quote goes likethis, perhaps there are only one or two glorious moments in one's life or perhaps one could even pass his whole life without nothing dramatic orsignificant.
But if you think aboutit, everybody's life makes up a world of hisown.
Even the most ordinary person has to fight for the existence of hisworld.
In thissense, not a single day is quiet or insignificant in these ordinaryworlds.
And this isvery, very, veryinfluential, very, very impressive in myopinion.
That is most ofus, we are notheroes, we arenot, youknow, heads ofstays.
We arenot, youknow, famousathletes, but we have to get by every day on a daily basis and even the simplest tasks in our lives might have very significant aftermath andsuch.
It's important for us to be aware of what wefeel, sometimes what we feel is the mostsignificant, most important to us on the individuallevel.
And thatcounts. So hold on tothat.
That's all the time we have for our discussion today onRoundtable.
