Could the one week method help you stop drinking?
Thanks for asking. Some psychological and addiction experts say that making and sticking to resolutions can do wonders for your health.
And just because it's not the new year right now, that doesn't mean you can't start a resolution right away.
After all, there's no time like the present, right?
Let's face it though, sticking to a resolution can be tough.
stuff, especially when it comes to giving up something you're used to doing, eating or drinking, on a regular basis .
If you're looking to cut back on alcohol but can't see yourself managing to go completely without, we've got an approach from TikTok to tell you about today, which may just help you in your quest. It's called the one week method.
How does it work? Well, a lot of people have likened it to dry January, which is probably the most well -known and popular resolution challenge out there.
Indeed, in the UK, where Dry January was created, as many as 175 ,000 people took part in 2023.
But while Dry January involves going cold turkey for a whole month, the one -week method is perhaps a little less daunting of a prospect.
It was created by American wellness influencer Bridget Stangland.
This is how she explained it to her followers when introducing it in december 2023 on TikTok.
So the one week no booze method is taking one week off of alcohol each month and at the end of the year it results in three months of no drinking.
What are the benefits?
Well at the risk of stating the obvious even going without alcohol for just one week per month means you're cutting down your possible drinking days by just under a quarter And that can quickly show improvements like boosted energy, fresher breath, better skin, better sleep and sharper mental focus.
The same is true if you give up tobacco or sugar too.
Bridgette Stangland herself credited the method with improving her sleep, curing her brain fog and giving her skin a glow.
And many commenters on her TikTok post raved about how they'd also reaped benefits from it.
Should I be looking to give up alcohol completely after a while?
Well getting through a whole year with an alcohol -free week each month can legitimately be seen as an achievement on its own.
But of course, the one -week method is geared at getting people to make long -term changes to their lifestyle.
Glamour .com ran a feature about it in January 2024 and for that feature they interviewed Stephanie Garrison, the Director of Clinical Operations at an online alcohol treatment platform called Monument.
Glamour quoted Garrison as saying, The biggest benefit of doing a challenge like this is the ability to see your life without alcohol and notice tangible, positive outcomes from the effort you put in.
You may notice yourself being more present with loved ones, more energized in the mornings, and overall less anxious, especially when you're not experiencing hangovers.
Those who've tried the one -week method say its benefits become evident pretty quickly.
And according to Glamour .com, getting a taste of these perks, along with proof that you really can survive a social engagement without the anti -anxiety elixir, often helps drive momentum to continue the habit.
There you have it. Now you know what the one -week method is.
