Hi everyone and welcome back to another episode of the Understandable English Podcast.
My name is Oliver and today I want to first tell you about a brand new video series that I have started just for you guys.
When learning english, it is hard to find content or videos which are maybe easy to listen to, like this podcast, because people speak very fast and they use complicated words.
So i have decided to make a video series on youtube where I do different things like vlogs, visit different places travel, and I speak in these videos with understandable, clear English, just like this podcast.

So this episode I want to talk about the same topic that I made the first video about.
So the English vlog video is a trip to the circus.
Recently my wife and I saw an advertisement for the circus.
A circus is a place where you go to see performances and it travels around.
It moves to different places.
We can call this a travelling circus.
And at a circus, you might find lots of different types of performers.
You could see a clown, who is usually someone that tries to make people laugh.
You might also see some acrobats.
They will do some tricks with their bodies jumping into the air, making different shapes and really just doing difficult things with their bodies.
You might also see a stunt performer.
These could be people using bicycles or motorbikes.
Maybe they are doing something very dangerous for a fire or with fire.
These performers can be very exciting to watch and often we can use the word exhilarating and that means very exciting.
All of these performances take place in something called the big top.
That is a big tent.
So a tent where people sit inside and they look at the circus ring, which is the stage where the performers do their acts or their performances.
Usually at a circus, you can also buy some snacks such as popcorn.
Maybe they will even have hot dogs or burgers, some sweets, candy floss.
It is a great environment or atmosphere for families.
At the circus that my wife and I went to, we saw lots of snacks available and also face painting for kids.
So children could go and get their faces painted with lots of bright colors and interesting designs.
They seemed to really love this.
They could also get balloons and different animals made from balloons.
Cool shapes and interesting designs.
The performance that we saw was about two hours long, and in the middle there was a short break for about 10 minutes.
So it was a really good long performance and we both enjoyed it so much.
They even had some very interesting performances that I had never seen before and I didn't think were part of the circus.
One of these was a laser show and honestly it was very surprising and quite impressive.
There was lots of lasers and it lit up the entire tent or big top. and it looked like i was in a video game or virtual reality it was so cool and the person who helped organize all of these performances and make sure that everything goes smoothly check safety they are called the ring master this is the head of the circus so the main person in charge And usually the ringmaster also takes part in the performances.
So he is a performer too and will do a performance.
But from the circus, my favourite act was called the Ball of Death.
This sounds very intense.
And it was.
It was so intense and crazy to watch.
It was a big metal ball.
You could see through it.
And inside the ball went guys on motorcycles.
First there was one, and then two, and then three all inside this big metal ball and they rode their motorcycles upside down and around the ball very, very fast, all without falling off or hitting anyone.
And it was so, so cool.
It's hard to describe, but if you watch the YouTube video from the circus, which is on my YouTube channel the link is in the description you will see this performance, along with every other performance that I've talked about in this episode.
What was also great is that we got the best seats in the circus right beside the performance area, and these seats are called ringside seats beside the circus ring, which is the place where the performers act.
It meant that we could see everything without a problem.
And at times we were so close that I thought that they might even hit us or they might come out of the ring and be too close to us.
But it was very exciting.
In between some of the performances, there was a clown.
So that is the person trying to make people laugh.
His job was to keep people entertained so that they weren't bored while the performance was getting ready.
So between performances.
This is especially important for the children, and he kept the children laughing and entertained throughout.
It was really great.
He did something called miming, which is when he pretended to do something.
So he was doing something that wasn't real, but pretending it was.
And he made lots of sound effects to make it sound like he was doing things.
It was quite interesting to watch and he was very good at his job.
Overall, the circus was a great experience.
We enjoyed every single performance and we'll definitely go back another time when it returns.
Now the circus is finished where we live and they have packed up all of their stuff and moved to a new location.
They do this all year round, every year, moving from one place to another and entertaining the local people.
