Hey guys, Mark from mcaseenglish.com here.
Today, we're going to work on our listening.
I'm going to read a story from my textbook English for B1 Learners, a step-by-step course for everyday English called My Life in Tokyo.
I'd like you to listen to the story and answer these five questions.
Are you ready?
Write them down if you need to.
Listen to the story again if you need to.
But here are the five questions.
Number one.
How long has the writer lived in Tokyo?
Once more, how long has the writer lived in Tokyo?
Number two, since when has the writer worked as a designer?
Once more, since when has the writer worked as a designer?
Number three, and this one is a little bit difficult, but here we go.
Number three, what food has the writer never eaten?
Once more, what food has the writer never eaten?
Some people have trouble with that question.
The next question, number four.
What has the writer already tried?
Once more.
What has the writer already tried?
And number five.
Has the writer been to Mount Fuji yet?
Once more, in case you're writing it down.
Has the writer been to Mount Fuji yet?
Okay, so now I'm going to read the story.
Feel free to listen to it as many times as you want.
My Life in Tokyo I moved to Tokyo when I was 20 and I have lived here for more than 15 years.
I have worked as a designer since 2010 and I love my job.
Living in such a big city means that there are always new things to try.
I have never eaten whale meat, but I have already tried almost every type of sushi you can imagine.
My friends often ask me, have you ever been to Mount Fuji?
Surprisingly, the answer is no.
I haven't been there yet.
Tokyo changes quickly, and I have seen many new buildings appear in my neighborhood.
Sometimes I miss my hometown, but I have made many friends here and built a good life.
Okay, if you need to listen to that one more time, go right ahead.
But now we're going to check our answers.
So question number one, how long has the writer lived in Tokyo?
The answer to that is more than 15 years.
Number two, since when has the writer worked as a designer?
Since 2010.
Number three, the one that gives some people some trouble.
What food has the writer never eaten?
Whale.
Did you catch that?
Number four, what has the writer already tried?
The writer has tried almost every type of sushi you could imagine.
And lastly, for a perfect score, number five, has the writer been to Mount Fuji yet?
No, he hasn't.
How'd you do?
I'd love to know your score if you're willing to tell me.
