Hey, it's Reading with Rella B. I just have one question.
Are you ready?
Are you ready to come along with me?
Are you ready to imagine with Rella B?
Well, hello, and welcome to Reading with Relibee.
I'm your host and fellow friend Relibee, and we will be reading some amazing books today, written by awesome authors.
But before we get into that, if you're new here, let me tell you a little bit about what we're going to be doing.
So first, we're going to start with a riddle.
And then we're going to do an interactive activity.
And following that, we're going to be listening to our amazing author friends read us their incredible story and answer a couple of questions about it.
So let's go ahead and get into our riddle.
Hint number one, I solve mysteries by following clues.
Do you know what I am?
Hint number two, I wear a magnifying glass with a thinking cap.
Hint number three, I search for who did it and why.
Do you know what I am?
I'll give you a few seconds to guess.
Good job!
If you guessed a detective, then you would be correct.
And the reason that our widow was a detective is because you are going to be meeting a very special detective today.
But before I invite this author friend out, let's think about what we would have if we were a detective.
Maybe we would have a magnifying glass.
Maybe we would have a thinking cap.
Maybe we would have a really cool jacket.
And maybe we would even have a badge.
What kind of clues would we look for?
Would we use all of our senses, sight and hearing, smell and taste?
Maybe not taste.
But detectives have to be really observant, right?
Hmm.
Anyways, let's go ahead and welcome out our author friend.
Hi friends.
So today we're going to have an amazing author come and share her story with us.
Heather is going to come and share her dog detective.
Have you got ever met a detective in real life?
Well, I know that sometimes I play video games and the detectives on there will have cool hats or a special tool like a magnifying glass so they can see small things or maybe look closer at something.
Let's go ahead and welcome Heather out and learn a little bit more about her book.
Hi Heather, how are you?
Hi friends.
I would love to know what is your book called?
My book is called Looking Within and my main character is a dog.
His name is Dingo and he uses a special tool called a magnifying glass to help us look within others and ourselves.
Oh wow.
Dingo sounds really amazing and also Pretty cool.
So I think we're ready to hear your story.
I'm very excited to read it with you.
All right, here we go.
Looking within.
Sometimes we need to look at things differently.
My name is Dingo.
I am a dog.
But I'm also a detective.
My line of work is different, but different is good if you choose to see it that way.
I'm here to show you a different way of looking.
Don't look to see what's on the outside, but what's on the inside.
But how?
Sometimes people look at me because I need some help getting around.
So on this page, we have a little girl in a wheelchair, and that's what we see on the outside.
But then we see Dingo using his magical magnifying glass to help us look at the inside.
And on the inside...
She's smart and intelligent and she loves math and science.
Here we have a little boy getting frustrated.
You might see me getting frustrated.
Sometimes it's just really hard to focus.
Looking on the inside, using our special magical tool, we see him helping out some friends and that he's really caring and helpful and he likes building blocks.
On this page, we have a little boy who's really having a hard time reading his letters.
You might see me never wanting to read.
Sometimes the letters get mixed up and it's hard to read the words.
But looking within, we see he's really artistic and creative and he loves to paint.
Here we have a student feeling a little sleepy in class.
You might see me falling asleep in class.
Sometimes my worries keep me up at night, but looking on the inside, he's loyal dependable, honest and he's really musical.
You can miss a lot of things if you don't look.
We all have something special to be seen within us.
Just look.
And the last page is a mirror because we want you to look within yourself too.
And all those special things that you can see within yourself.
Wow, that's amazing.
I love how in the book that you mentioned that different does not mean bad at all.
Some people like different foods, and that's okay.
We all are unique that way.
So I would love to know what inspired you to write this book?
I am a school teacher.
So what inspired me to write this book is we were working on a project in school where the students were writing their own stories and their own books.
So I wanted to write my own book to share with them.
And I started to come up with all these different ideas.
And this is how my idea came about.
I love it.
And so is Dingo based on a dog in your life?
I do have a dog.
So that is part of the reason why I picked a dog because I love my dog.
My dog's name is Tootsie.
But I use Dingo as a dog detective.
So in the book he's dressed up like a detective, with a detective jacket and a detective hat and his magical magnifying glass.
Dingo sounds awesome.
And so does Tootsie.
Thank you.
I know you said that it's important to have an open mind as well.
What do you think we can do to make sure that we have open minds?
I think that we should never judge someone based on what they look like.
I think we need to open our minds and get to know people, say hi to new people, make new friends, have new conversations with them and, you know, really get to know someone and all the different things that you know you can learn.
Right.
Because just because we see someone doesn't mean we automatically know everything about them.
That's amazing.
So is there anything else you would like to share with us today?
I also want to share that everyone is so special in their own way.
And sometimes we need a little reminder to look at all the good things about ourselves, because sometimes it's a little tough to do that right.
We might have some bad days or days that we feel sad, but I really want you to read this book and just remember all the good things about yourself and others.
Definitely.
And if we would like to go find your book and learn more about you, where do we go?
If you would like to find my book or purchase it, it is now on Amazon.
And if you would like to follow Dingo's journey or learn a little bit about me, you can go on Instagram or TikTok and you can search Lookin' Within.
Perfect.
Thank you so much for joining us today, Heather.
I hope you have a great rest of your day.
Thank you so much for having me.
I really hope you enjoyed the story.
I had so much fun here with you on your podcast.
Good.
We had fun having you.
Thanks.
Wow, that was such an incredible story.
I bet you didn't know that dogs could be detectives too.
I really enjoyed that our detective wasn't just looking outside for clues, but also inside.
It's so important to recognize that we are beautiful inside and out.
And what's inside is so much more important.
So, you know what time it is.
It's time to find out our co-creators.
I hear my friends Chelsea, Claire, and David had fun today.
Won't you join us another day?
Thank you so much for joining me on Reading with Relibee.
