Easy English expression rehashed Hello everybody, my name is coach Shane and welcome to easy English expressions come on.
Let's master English Thanks for listening to my EQ podcast We're going back over all the great expressions we learned and I think this is gonna be a great review for some of you But some of you it's gonna be brand new so enjoy the lessons I recorded this particular podcast on a Friday now right now
actually for me It's Tuesday Tuesday night for you.
It might be Wednesday, but yeah anyway TGIF.
Thank God. It's Friday Even though it's just Wednesday Are you ready for the expression?
Let's go back in time All right, everybody it is Friday Well for me, it's still Friday and we've got the perfect Expression that you can use on Thursdays Fridays and even Saturdays Well Saturday morning.
This is the expression What's up this weekend?
What's up this weekend?
Did you hear it? What is what's up?
UP this weekend Now we can change it.
We could say what's up today.
What's up tonight? What's up Saturday night?
What's up Sunday afternoon?
You can use any time you like But the key expression is what's up and then the time so what's up this weekend?
simply means What are you going to do this weekend?
What are you planning to do this weekend?
It's a great expression and this is an expression you can use today.
Use it to your friends.
Use it to your mom.
Use it to your uncle.
Use it to your boss.
You can use this expression to anyone anytime.
Ok, we've got an easy dialogue.
Are you ready? Let's check it out.
What's up this weekend?
I'm going to go hiking.
Where at? Park Canyon.
You want to go? Ok, so what's up this weekend?
What are you going to do this weekend?
And the guy says, I'm going to go hiking.
But that American daily pronunciation, I'm going to go.
I'm going to go. I'm going to go hiking.
What is hiking? Well basically, hiking is just walking.
But it's walking in the mountains or walking in the forest.
That's the idea of hiking.
So the guy asks, where at?
Where are you going hiking?
We can also say, where to?
Where will you go to?
And the other guy answers, Park Canyon.
So, have you heard of Park Canyon before?
Me neither. It's the first time I've heard of Park Canyon.
But in this situation, we should understand that this is the name of a very specific place.
Park Canyon. It must be the name of a local park.
And then the guy says, you want to go, you want to go.
And grammatically, that should be do you want to go?
But in daily English, we get rid of the do.
And instead of want to, we say wanna.
You want to go? You want to go?
It's pretty simple.
So let's change the dialogue just a little bit.
Let's try it again.
What's up this weekend?
I'm going to the movies.
Oh, which movie? I'm gonna see Star Wars.
Do they still have Star Wars in the movie theater?
Maybe not. So I want you guys to make your own dialogue.
And what you really need to do is use this expression with your friend or with your family member.
And teach them the expression.
And teach them the pronunciation.
Once again, this expression can be used anytime to anyone.
What's up this weekend?
What's up tonight? What's up on Saturday?
It's a great expression and it's too easy.
Let's listen to the dialogue two more times.
What's up this weekend?
I'm gonna go hiking.
We're at Park Canyon.
You want to go? What's up this weekend?
I'm gonna go hiking.
We're at Park Canyon.
You want to go? Thanks so much for listening.
