Listen all around, listen for the sounds Listen, listen, listen Hello everyone.
Hello.
I hope you're ready because it's time to listen and play.
Listen carefully.
What can you hear?
It's a song.
Somebody is singing a song.
Yes, that's right.
We sing when we use our voices to make music.
And I love to sing.
But it's not just people that like singing.
Listen again.
What can you hear?
It sounds like birds.
Yes.
Birds are super singers.
If you listen carefully when you're outside, you might hear the sound of birds singing.
Now, here's the sound of a very different kind of animal.
That sounds strange.
It's a very unusual sound.
It's the sound of a very large animal that lives in the sea but comes up to the surface to breathe.
It blows out great jets of water.
Listen again.
It's the sound of a whale.
Whale experts think that they sing to let other whales in the area know that they're there.
A bit like saying, hello, I'm here, with their song.
It's time for us to sing now with a song about someone called Tommy Tucker.
It's got some very unusual words.
Listen as I sing the song first and then be ready to join in with as many words as you can.
Little Tommy Tucker sings for his supper.
What shall we give him?
White bread and butter.
How will he cut it without a knife?
How will he be married without a wife?
Are you ready to sing along?

It's time for another listening game with more amazing animals.
Listen carefully.
What can you hear?
Meow.
It's a cat.
That's right.
It's a furry cat with a lovely long tail.
Lions and tigers are sometimes called big cats.
But I wouldn't want to have a lion or a tiger curl up on my sofa.
Listen again.
What can you hear?
Is it a dog?
That's right.
It's a friendly fuzzy dog.
Listen carefully.
WHISTLE BLOWS
Little Tommy Tucker was a very scruffy, very dirty and very lonely little dog.
He had no home and nobody to look after him.
He had no one to brush his hair and no one to give him food.
Each day, Tommy Tucker stood on the street and barked for his supper.
But it was no good.
People walked past the sad little dog and didn't even look at him.
Poor hungry Tommy walked past houses and looked through the windows.
Inside, he could see families eating lovely food and having fun together.
I wish I had a nice warm house to live in, thought Tommy.
I wish I had a nice tasty supper every night.
Most of all, I wish I had a family to care for me.
Then one night, little Tommy looked through the window of a very grand looking house.
Inside he could see a little girl with a mother and father.
They were laughing and chatting and playing with a little dog a bit like him.
They look like such a happy family, Tommy thought.
Then he had an idea.
I know how I can get a family.
I shall become a pet dog just like that dog.
Now how can I make that happen?
I know, he thought.
I shall bark.
Not for my supper, but for a family.
The next morning, Tommy found three houses all in a row.
He walked up to the door of the first house and... The door was opened by a grumpy lady.
Oh, do be quiet, little dog, said the lady.
Then she shut the door on him.
Tommy felt a bit upset, but he wasn't giving up yet.
He trotted to the second house, stood in front of the door and once again This time a little boy opened the door.
As Tommy barked, he wagged his tail to show he was friendly.
But the little boy didn't smile or say hello.
He looked scared and ran into the house.
Little Tommy wondered why no one wanted him to be their pet.
Perhaps it's because I'm so scruffy and dirty, he thought.
I know.
I'll go to the duck pond and have a wash.
Tommy went to the duck pond and swam about in the water.
When he was all wet, he climbed out and went to the third house.
He stood in front of the door and...
This time a friendly looking man answered the door and reached down to pat Tommy on the head.
But Tommy was so excited that he shook himself, causing all the water from the pond to fly off his fur and soak the man.
Immediately he began to shout angrily at Tommy and slam the door.
Poor Tommy Tucker.
He ran away from that house as fast as his little legs would carry him.
He ran past the rest of the houses and into the park.
The park was where Tommy came each night.
He had a favourite tree he slept under.
Tommy ran to the tree and lay down.
I give up, he thought as he shut his eyes.
I will never find a family to live with.
I'll have to live alone forever.
Father, look, came a voice.
This poor dog looks like he needs a home, said the girl's father.
Please, mother, can he be our pet? said the little girl.
Well, we've already got one dog.
But I suppose we can make room for another, replied the girl's mother.
How little Tommy wagged his tail!
The girl's father picked him up and carried him to the family home.
That night Tommy didn't have to bark for his supper.
He was given the best supper ever and he didn't have to bark for a family.
At last he had a family of his very own.
Little Tommy Tucker felt so happy he barked at the top of his voice.
This time he was barking for joy.
I'm so glad that Tommy finally found a lovely family to live with.
Let's celebrate by singing today's Tommy Tucker song again.
